NeoVisual -> I haven't seen Kimi wa Petto yet. I'll have to watch it after I've finished up some of the series I'm currently watching.
I highly recommend Gokusen. It was the first Jdrama that I ever watched and it's hilarious. Gokusen 2 and 3 are really good as well. Hana Yori Dango's good too. I'm in the process of watching it, but I like it so far. If you're looking for something more serious, Last Friends is a good series.

I'm almost done with Gokusen 3. Only one more episode to go, but I keep putting off watching it. I hate when series end. ^^; I really do need to finish it though. I've got a ton of other series to watch. >.<
bearysplash -> You should definitely watch Gokusen 3 if you liked the first two. Hana Kimi's another good school drama, so's Yukan Club. Gachi Baka and My Boss My Hero are also school dramas. I have them downloaded, but I haven't watched them yet, so I don't know if they're any good.

I realize this is a thread for JDramas and Movies, which I'm a huge fan of, but I'm curious.
Has anyone here ventured out of Japanese language dramas and movies? Watched any Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, etc. stuff? I've seen some really great stuff that wasn't Japanese. (The Chinese version of Hana Kimi for one (Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu), and Meteor Garden, which is the Taiwanese version of Hana Yori Dango.)
But seeing as this thread is mainly for Japanese things, and I do wish to stay at least somewhat On-Topic..
Has anyone seen Nemureru Mori? (Also called A Sleeping Forest.) It was really an amazing mystery! It's the latest thing I finished, and am fangirling over a bit. :insane: One of the main actors was really wonderful (Kimura Takuya), and I felt terrible about the ending, esspecially with his character. I don't want to talk about it very much though, not unless I know people have seen it. Spoilers and all.

I finished Gokusen 3! It was really good. Hopefully the graduation special (if there is one) will be out soon. Now I can tackle Hana Yori Dango and Last Friends and the many other series I need to finish. ^^;
Selmarixie -> I'm slowly working my way through Bad Family, which is a Korean drama and I've downloaded a couple episodes of So I'm not Handsome, a Chinese drama, but that's about the extent of what I've seen outside of jdramas.
Nemureru Mori sounds really interesting! I'll have to check it out. ^-^

I really need to start Gokusen 3. I think I want to go back and watch the Graduation Specials again, though. It's been a little while since I finished the story.
And if you're going to get into Hana Yori Dango, you definately have to watch Meteor Garden and Meteor Garden II afterwards! <3 It's the Taiwanese version of Hana Yori Dango. It sent me on more of an emotional roller coaster than HYD did as a whole, but they're both good. (I haven't finished HYD II or MG II yet. I'm probably going to watch Attack No.1 before I go back and finish them, as a breather.) The F4 from the show was actually formed into a musical group too, and some of their music is really nice.
Nemureru Mori was really good. It has it's slow moments, but the ending was unexpected. At least on my part it was. I had guessed through the series, but I never expected it to.. well. xD I won't blab about it, you should definately check it out sometime though.
And if you're interested in other Asian dramas and movies (Non Japanese xD, though I could toss some of those out too), I'd be happy to recommend some. :3

humm.. i don't really know of a lot of other school dramas that are japanese besides the ones mentioned except Seito Shokun!. i'm sure there are more, but i can't name them off the top of my head. i can name two or three taiwanese dramas that are "school" dramas but i don't think the majority of kdramas revolve around school...
though the japanese movie tada, kimi wo aishiteru was pretty cute. ;-; and sad.
i watch a variety of dramas, though mainly jdramas, kdramas, cdramas and tdramas. :3 don't watch anything else really. xD

I've been watching Bambino! lately, since I've been meaning to finish it for quite a few months now. ^^; I'm down to 4 episodes now, and I'm really enjoying it. I think I'll work on Hana Yori Dango next.
Selmarixie -> I really enjoyed Gokusen 3, so I highly recommend it! ^-^ I'll definitely check out Meteor Garden and Meteor Garden II after I finish HYD and HYD2, especially since I like F4's music. I'm also planning on watching the Taiwanese version of Hana Kimi, since I loved the Japanese one. And I will make sure to check out Nemureru Mori too.
As for recommendations, please recommend away. ^-^ I'm always looking for new dramas and movies to watch. One request, nothing from the horror genre please. I get scared rather easily, so I avoid horror movies/dramas like the plague. ^^;

Aw. xD The Horror genre is one of my favorites. But easily avoidable, so don't worry. With these circumstances, I'll make sure the closest thing you get from me in way of "scary" or "creepy" is a mystery drama. Like Nemureru Mori, or one that's more light hearted is Tantei Gakuen Q. (I'm kind of amazed at how light hearted that one can be at times, but still have some of the things that happen.. happen. x_X; )
But yes! I'm so happy you're going to check out Meteor Garden and Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu (which is actually Chinese, not Taiwanese. x_X; )

Hmm the creator of this thread should consider changing the title to Asian Drama instead of limiting it to just J-Drama. Cuz i know that some of the shows i listed aren't J-Dramas lol.
But anyways. Sungie, i will so watch Gokusen 3. I forgot all about it.
And thanks for the other school drama titles. I really like school dramas ahha.

It's been a while since I posted in this thread! I haven't managed to finish anything the past month, but I've started a couple new series. I'm so bad. ^^; But I really want to recommend these two dramas. Yamada Tarou Monogatari (which came out last year) and Shibatora (which is currently airing). They're both comedies, though Shibatora does have a more serious side. They're my current obsession. I'm hoping that I'll actually manage to finish them some time in the near future. ^^;

The same Yamada Taro Monogatari with Nino from Arashi in it? :insane:
Just having him in there makes it so tempting to watch, but if someone is actually recommending it to people.. I think I have reason to bump it closer to the top of my list!

I had no interest whatsoever in any form or type of drama series ever, as I don't like the genre of drama in general. I don't get a kick out of verbal sparring between melodramatic heroines fighting over a single guy or watching some actor force a bucket of tears out of his very dry eyes.
Yet for some strange force of nature, japanese drama is just... different. Of course I do choose the series I watch, not everything's interesting story-wise. But I do sit longer watching a wellmade j-drama than I do soap operas and the like especially if it has action in it.
My guess is it's because of the language. I remember channel surfing some time ago and whenever I pass by the French or German (or any foreign language) channel, I stop and watch the verbal sparring that goes on that time (they do show a lot of dramas on TV eh?).

"Drama" when used like.. JDrama, or KDrama, does not exactly mean the "drama" genre of entertainment. It sounds like you think JDrama has to refer to something dramatic, something in the "drama" genre, but when used like this (or with any other asian pairing, like KDrama, CDrama, etc.), it doesn't necessarily refer to that. It just means it's an Asian TV program with plot/story. (I'm not saying they don't have things in the 'drama' genre. Just clarifying. Game shows, Reality shows, Talk shows, etc. wouldn't be called "dramas." )

Yup! That's the Yamada Taro Monogatari that I'm talking about. I didn't even realize that Nino and Sho played in it until I started watching it. ^^; I really like it. It's so funny! I watched the first 5 episodes in like 2 days. You should definitely check it out!

The only reason I knew is because I was interested when I saw the title you wrote, so I looked it up on the Drama Wiki, and their faces looked really familiar. I looked down in the Cast list to be sure, and it had their names there. (Only I didn't know their full names, so I wasn't positive it was them at the time. xD) Then I ran into a YouTube video of Nino being interviewed after filming a movie in the U.S., and he talked about a drama he was going to be in. And TADA, the same title came up.
