Hey there! I loved Xenogears as well. It wasn't a bad story but then again I was shocked at the mutated humans part. ^_^'

I don't have playstation 2 so I didn't play the other ones.

The funding for Xenogears was actually cut short. Thats why the second disc was a bit odd. I still have yet to finish the game though. (My brother killed it and I finally got it resurfaced) But apparently the story was, square cut funding for Xenogears to move it to other projects. The people that were working on the game eventually left Square and formed monolith, which began on Xenosaga.

I just see Xenosaga as the series that leads to Xenogears. I like both of them, but I think its sad they cut funding on it. I think there was supposed to be 4 games in the series.

The thing I find funny about Xenogears' funding being cut is that its developers were known to make fun of FFVII's dev team for taking so long. In the end, VII had more staying power, though, eh.

I actually dislike Xenogears, and like Xenosaga (well, the first episode, anyway). I had issues with Xenogears' gameplay, though I did love the art and characters; I never finished it. I think it suffered from the genre confusion that a lot of RPGs at the time had, too. Xenogears was a fantasy with sci-fi, religious, and psychological elements-- a lot to cram into one game, and none of it coherent to my satisfaction. Xenosaga is 100% space opera, a genre better suited to religious and psychological issues, in my opinion.

For what it's worth, though, I don't like the way either series turned out. Xenosaga lost focus in the second installment.

I actually remember hearing that Xenosaga bought the farm because the main imagination behind the project disowned the series or something like that.

They did sort of kill the second game. Its like it lost its steam, I think it was due to them wanting to change the feel of the game visually; which I think was a big mistake actually, but admittedly the third game was much better. They met a happy medium between the first and second game graphics wise.

Xenogears I think was more appealing because it was something no one really tried before. It just lost it because they funding was cut. But well... Final Fantasy it the money maker. I'm sure to them it was better to invest in a formula that worked, then something more experimental.

I actually loved the battle system. <3 That was actually why I got it in the first place. I played the demo I had to hell, before I got it. XD

I think Ep 2 lost steam because the Gnosis were downplayed to the max when they were the heart and soul of the first installment. I agree that the graphics didn't help either.

I disagree strongly with the idea that Final Fantasy VII wasn't experimental, however. I think VII's priority over XG had more to do with the name "Final Fantasy" than it did with the game's content. Brand recognition and all. The main thing that could have been considered risky about XG over VII was the religious theme, but that wouldn't really have affected sales in Japan given how carefree many Japanese are with regard to religion (Western religion in particular).

well to me graphics dont matter its the story if the story sucks i cant even try to play the game if with how i feel and see it if you work too much on graphics and not anuff on story then i just dont like it

i want to feel a pont to finish the story if its just looks i dont care if theres no good story behind it and to me no good story was behind xenosaga but yeah graphics were good and all but to me xenogears had a better story and still one of a kind to me i still havent found anything else close to as good as xenogears

xenosaga is another game to me but it dose work with somewhat of xenogears more of what happend in the beginning because if you wached the starting sgi you see that xenogears was alot like xenosaga at one pont but they crashed onto the planit and well the few that lived had to start over and forgot most of there history and all that but still i like xenogears the best if xenosaga
'
ever gets to where xenogears is since its sapostobe(sorry for bad spelling) before xenogears (i know people that are really into the hole thing)
then ill play it or even wach the anime that gos with xenosaga

but im for the story not the graphics

chadarnook: True. Since the Gnosis were downplayed so much KOS-Mos sort of lost her purpose in the game. Since she was the focus point for the first game it sort of felt like the plot was lost. They went a little too deep into the other character's pasts. I don't think I really played Kos-Mos at all in that game.

Exactly! The name is what sells it.

Incognito Sabellian: Graphics shouldn't matter, no, but I think that's where most of their funding went to, was new graphics, and revamping the battle system, which I think was a KO on the first game's visual appeal. So I think that for that reason the game suffered plot-wise as well. We can pay our writers cause we spent too much on making it "pretty".

I loved the story in Xenosaga. It was like an orange peel of the outward story, with the real heart of the story underneath. It was just really complex.
