I’ve gotten so lazy lately about only listening to audiobooks lol I’ve been making myself read a new physical book I have and I’m so irritated that I don’t feel like I get anything done with my day. What have I become? I love sitting down with a book but I’m having to retrain myself that that’s okay and not a waste of time. Audiobooks have let me read while also being so productive that it’s messed up how I think.

Sure! Here's my profile: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/7991450-danielle Are you on Goodreads as well?

Oh. O: I prefer physical graphic novels and usually listen to audiobooks of novels if I'm not entirely into the narrator's voice. My library has a lot of nice graphic novels that are only on hoopla though. Hoopla is real nice though. I should go to goodwill or second hand stores more often... Some old books are hard to find.
I guess I am. XD I haven't really used it much. https://www.goodreads.com/kentkatana

I totally understand that! It's happened to me with graphic novels I own and when I try to work on art... Feel like I'm being unproductive and wasting time. orz

Oh! I recommend the audiobook for The Great Passage by Shion Miura! It's been fun so far.

I thought I responded to this earlier, but now I see I haven't. I think maybe I dreamed that
You are very lucky then! We are lucky to have a library at all in my little town, and even the one we do have is a little one room not much bigger then an average livingroom (its an old house that they converted) so they don't have a huge selection and about half is dedicated to children. I'm grateful for that though, a place to encourage kids to read more. Its a dying art.

The romance book I'm reading just went for a turn and I'm finding it a little bit hard to believe but not as bad as that other book I read recently and hated it so I'm going to keep reading. It'll certainly have a happy ending which I need ATM.

Happy Endings are nice hahaha.
I think my first venture of the year is going to be a book about Lucille Ball, from the point of view of Jesse Oppenheimer the writer of I Love Lucy.

ooooh the title has me interested :O
I'm already halfway through "I love Lucy, the untold story". She's one of my favorite people, we even named a dog after her once (A little red Dachshund). Its sort and I'm so absorbed, it'll be done by tomorrow I'm sure

Yeah, I'm really lucky to live in a city with a nice library system. ; w; I'd love to visit more small town libraries. o:

Oh! I've been meaning to read that! Have it checked out from the library and everything. XD I watched the anime film based off of it last year and it was pretty good. A few unanswered questions though. I'm so interested to see what more the book has.

@ Kent: I didn't know there was an anime movie based off of it. What is the title of it? I recently picked up a Crunchyroll subscription and I wonder if it's on there...

It has the same title. Nah, it's a gkids film so I'd say, if you can, borrow it from the library? Or rent it on a streaming app. X3

I hate that we have grown to live in a world like this. Where simply doing things that take care of our own needs is considered the biggest taboo.

It sounds like the library in the town where my dad lives before they built a new one. It was literally the size of a doctor's examination room. The library here is actually very nice. They have tons of cool stuff beyond books including like a creator's lab or whatever they call it where you can do wood cutting and 3D printing, a flight simulator, etc. I'm not even sure what all they have I haven't gotten to check that area out yet.

I'd love to see pics! o: I should share pics of the tiny library I work in too. o: Probably the smallest in my system currently, and one of the oldest buildings. It's like four somewhat large rooms worth of space?
So many things about societal norms that are just messed up. orz I think we're learning that the world needs more change though..? With anti-racism and self-care and inclusivity and such..? It's a fairly slow process though..
Wow! That looks so cool, zig! O: The quality looks so good!

I could go on a long discussion about anti-racism in modern society and particularly media but I'll try and keep it brief here. I think we are good in the aspect that we are starting to recognize the need for change but I think we've gone about it in a very aggressive and pushy way that its causing those that were Racist or bias in the opposite direction. It needs to have a very natural and gentle approach. It can be big, but it needs to feel natural in a way that makes people say "Ok I'm cool with this, this feels ok" rather then so aggressive that people are like "I'm not ok with this AT ALL". People hate change, and they particularly hate change in things they love so. Its causing the divide to be more pronounced.

Seriously same. And I hate that people also judge other people’s forms of enjoyment. I like to play videogames, and I feel like my roommates judge me so much for it. Like what’re you guys doing with your time? Sitting in your rooms staring at different screens, be it their phones, laptops, or TV. A video game engages both the mind and your hands. I also listen to audiobooks at the same time. I think I’m actually accomplishing a lot more than them, and yet it’s considered a waste of time. One just sits around talking on her phone all the time that she’s home, and I talk with my friends on the headset sometimes when I play. How is me talking with my friend while I play a video game still somehow less than someone just sitting around doing nothing but talking on the phone? Make it make sense. Like why is that such a taboo?!
I’m also injured and can’t go do physical things, whereas they’ll sometimes surf or hike, so I think a lot of judgement comes from that too. Like just let me enjoy my simple little thing that isn’t hurting or disturbing anyone. I just want my books, my videogames, and my dog.
Sorrrrryy, rant over.

I like to see more media (books and movies and tv shows) with lgbtq and/or poc protagonists. I think that's a more natural way of doing it. I think it's funny when governments or companies are trying to push everyone to read a certain book or do required DEI training. It only works on those who actually want to do these things.

I think it's the stigma that if you're focusing on video games, hobbies, etc. all the time, you aren't making any time for family or friends... The main thing I like to do in my free time is watch anime at the same time as my sister while we text each with real time reactions. XD I guess that's how social practices have become these days, dividing your attention between several things. But it seems people put more priority on being social with others, giving them your full attention, than enjoying a task on your own?
That reminds me, I really need to put aside some time for some minor exercise at least, like walking or stretching...
Would be nice to figure out an answer..

I just finished my third book of the year, The great Alone. It was a very long audiobook, about 15.5 hours, but it was good.
