House of the Broken Sword
Those who beg for mercy are cowards, save mercy for those who beg the sword.
We run by a democracy. The best fighter is also the leader of the household. The leader has final say in every action, but must have the council's FULL permission. The leader can be voted out of leadership on a majority vote.
The leader finalizes all decisions. He deals with other positions of authority as a representative of the House. He also makes the decisions in the best interest for the house. If the people disagree then they declare a vote. The council must collect the votes and then decide what the house would like. In the event of a tie, or, the best interest for safety of the household, the council may vote against the people. If 3/4s of the council agrees against the people, the peoples vote is null and void and the chief’s decision is final. In order to become a member of the house you must have the prerequisites and have done the initiations. Upon completing initiations a vote is called, if the majority vote is yes, you are accepted. Before the vote, you must pick one ritual from every category; there is determination, loyalty, and trust. This household is on that revolves around family. Every single person who is a member is a part of your family and must be trusted with your life. To prove this, a person or persons will complete ritualistic trials in order to gain favor and prove that he is trustworthy and a friend.
The order of importance goes as thus: Chief, second brave, council, Bluds, citizens. The chief is determined by the best warrior; the council is chosen by the people and may only be replaced by a majority vote with the Chief’s approval. Second brave is selected by the council, is the adviser to the chief, and is elected for his skills of tactics concerning war and the people. The bluds are selected by the second brave to enforce and uphold household law. The purpose of bluds is to keep watch, protect the citizens, help train warriors, and capture those who disobey house laws. Each rank is marked with a certain color, symbol, and a piece of armor (top be decided).
House Laws and Punishments:
· Every man, woman, and child is family, no exceptions: Punishment is forced labor.
· No person will bring harmful intentions into the household: Punishment is banishment
· No person steals, lies, or cheats: Punishment is banishment
· No person will do his neighbor misfortune: Punishment is forced servitude and suspension from ranks.
· A neighbor will always help a brother in misfortune: Punishment is forced servitude, suspension from ranks, possible demotion, or imprisonment.
Failure to upkeep these laws will result in punishment decided by the council. Should you not report a deed may the council have mercy upon you.
Prerequisites:
· Need to have been camping with us three times
· Need to have a decent attempt at garb
· And needs to have earned a name
Initiations: Note that if an individual cannot complete an initiation for health or other serious problems, they may choose a different task. Also note, that if you wish, another member of the house may help you with your task...but then you may have to do several other ones according to the decision of the leaders
Determination Ritual:
Watch of misery: You stay up all night with only water to keep you awake, and then fight the next day. If you don't fight then you must simple travel with the warriors.
Antagonizing punishment: We secure your hands and feet, and expose your stomach after attaching you to a solid object. You must endure 10 minute of the household leaders/council hitting your stomach with chosen weapons without asking to stop
Fight of hands: we do a round robin and for every person you beat is a final vote of yes.
Loyalty Rituals:
Servitude: Must do what the household says for the entire day around the camp
Squire: Must dedicate all time and efforts for a day to one person on and off the battlefield.
Bribery of the Corrupt: Must make an item of value for all members of authority in the house.
Trust Rituals:
Dig your own grave: (has not been tested)
Apprenticeship: You must arrange with one member in the household to complete at least 200 hours of work learning a trade from said person. This person must fill out your time card, must make sure you have the materials for the apprenticeship, and, must make sure your work is presentable to be judged.
Dark Blindness: You chose a person inside the house you believe you can trust. You wear a blind fold. You are then given a wooden stick and are instructed on how to fight another person who is trying to hit you. You must trust your partner to give you the correct directions
At the end of initiations, we do a majority vote. If majority vote is yes then the question warrior is accepted into the house. If no then they will have to try harder next time. If they are accepted, a piece of their armor is branded with our symbol and they will forever be a part of our house.
