Before you go all, "Oh my gosh, what is this girl's problem?!", I'd like to let you know that my boyfriend's relatives completely agree with me. :D

Thursday night, I saw Lion King live with my boyfriend and his family. It was so amazing. It was just great. The costumes and the puppeteering were totally mindblowing, and yeah it was just REALLY amazing. Worth getting home at midnight on a school night.

Anyway, so on the way home, I got a sudden idea. I like Harry Potter rather a lot, you see. And I was thinking about the Lion King and about Harry Potter, and then it hit me. Bam. It's only a matter of time until someone, somewhere, big in productions and stuff, wants to make a Harry Potter musical. Wouldn't that be GREAT? Sure, Harry Potter isn't really MUSICAL, but they could make some stuff up. ; )

Talk aboottt:
Not Harry Potter because this is GD, not BD.
Lion King
Lion King Musical!
The idea of a Harry Potter musical
Musicals in general.

There was this rumor about a Harry Potter musical going around last month. I think i also saw it in the news on mugglenet. ><;
Seems like a good idea, but that would be very difficult to fit all the seven books, wouldn't it? o.o
Still, it'd be pretty interesting.

Anyway, i havn't seen the Lion King. =(
I've always wanted to see it..
I don't think i've seen a musical at all.
Maybe a few class trips, but i'm not really sure i can call them musicals, no..

Hey, it worked for the Lord of the Rings.
But then again, it was a bomb for Silence of the Lambs...

I've got no problem with the idea, I just have the feeling that it wouldn't be taken seriously by the public. A lot of people are going to point and laugh at it and say that it ruined the books/movies for them. We need to wait a few years for the general hysteria to die down, then we'll bring Potter back.

I agree with Knerd. The hype is still really really high, which means for the bulk of people, any wandering from the books would be immediately shot down.

I like the idea though, and I'd definitely find a way to see it. :D *loves Harry Potter*

I don't know if I'd want Harry Potter to turn into a musical... Just the idea seems really weird... Though the idea of Lord Voldemort having a number would be amusing...

I really wanna see the Lion King Musical! Where did you go to see it? I'm actually interested in finding out where so I can go =]

I've seen ads for one, and it looked amazing.

I dunno about a HP musical though....what exactly would they sing? o_o

Is the Lion King still running? :o I saw ads for it several years ago--I mean, it might not be the same people, but I thought that it'd stopped by now..... That's nifty.

As for a Harry Potter musical...... I think it would be fun. It could end up changing people's perceptions of the story, yes, but it could be great if someone did it properly. Of course, you're right; people would scream right now. Maybe in ten-twenty years? (By then all of the movies would be out, and the fervor's had enough time to die down. It would be best, probably, to do each book as a separate musical installment...... Honestly, I think that they should remake the movies. Not because the actors were bad, or anything like that but because they could do a very long version of each one........ Leaving out less stuff. I'd like that. XD)

The whole point about musicals is that they're musical...
Hary Potter has no songs for it thus it can not be a musical and as wacked as JK Rowling is she'd never agree for her work to be twisted in such a way.

^ Songs can easily be written into the story. Phantom of the Opera was originally a book, as was Les Miserables, Man of La Mancha, West Side Story, etc. It's not that uncommon to take a story that's already been published, and adapt it for the stage.

I'm so jealous, I want to see Lion King on broadway so bad! I've never been to New York City though, only to upstate New York were there's nothing around except cows and farms.

I'd probably go see Harry Potter if it were a musical, then again I can't really picture singing being incorporated into it. Actually scratch that, don't they sing some in the book? Like the Hogwarts school song where everyone sings the same words just to whatever tune they want? Hmm, well they made Legally Blonde into a musical so I guess anything can be done.

I'd really rather not see Harry Potter as a musical.
It'd be rather... creepy. And possibly quite insanely long. I believe they turned His Dark Materials into either a play or musical. And it was like five hours or so. Imagine Harry Potter -- you'd have to come back every day for a week or something!

I would think that there have already been dicussions between producers and JK regarding this. I mean, my gawd the woman has a merchandising empire under her thumb. And since musicals are finally on the uprise again, I wouldn't be surprised to see one in the future. Most likely after they finish the movies.

Oh, and I've seen Lion King too. It was several years go, but I'm sure its still the same. The puppets are fantastic, but I think my favorite part was all the drums they play.

I got the image of Voldemort dancing around and singing with Harry laying on the ground, about to die...
I burst out laughing.

I think people would go see it just because it'd be hillarious. Harry Potter doesn't seem like like something that could be made into a good musical. What could they sing? And singing and dancing doesn't really fir the Death Eater's style. Although, it would be cool to see some dementors doing that. :3

^ It's possible to create horror musical numbers. You can sing and dance, and never once lose your evil attitude. After all, not every song has to be peppy and happy. Just look at Broadway shows like Sweeney Todd - Sondheim was successful in creating a very disturbing and eerie mood throughout the entire thing, even in between all the jokes.

Or just look at classic Disney movies: All the villians had their songs, and that just makes little kids even more scared of them. Ursula sang "Poor Unfortunate Souls," Scar sang "Be Prepared," the entire cast of Pocahontas sang "Savages," etc. It's pretty easy to keep the element of horror in there at all times.

A Harry Potter Musical would be really great. I would love to see it whenever it would be done.
Hopefully there will be on in the future.

As I've never paid to see a musical I don't know if I'd pay to watch a Harry Potter based one, nevertheless, I think the idea is an interesting one, I think there is a way to make it work, but it wouldn't be an easy feat for the producers.

That'd be an interesting musical. I've seen The Sound of Music, and also various ones in theaters. Only small musicals though. Not in Broadway.
But the idea of a Harry Potter musical would be cool. Especially if the actors in the movie were in it. ;D

Aw, I think that would be cute. Although there would be a surplus of highschools begging to get the rights.

I love musicals, and have been involved in quite a few, so I think it certainly could work. Snape would certainly have to have a solo

That'll be really interesting. But I don't think it should be done straight away, maybe in 10 years or something when the whole Harry Potter thing dies a little.
