Well, I'm Wiccan. And I've heard a lot of views of a lot of other people on what they think of it...And to be honest, I like to know what everyone thinks about it, what they know, and what they think they know about it. ^^

So, what are your opinions and views about this religion?

Positive. I like aspects of these beliefs. I'm a Unitarian and I even found the Pagan - Unitarians. Though I suppose I could learn more details.

Paganism and Wicca....Such a BEAUTIFUL religion. We can believe in whatever we want to. And its all about nature. It's just so awesome. I love my religion so much, and I'm PROUD to be a Wiccan. 8D

I have a friend who's Wiccan. He's a very odd person. And he's slightly annoying with all the Mormon bashing he does, but anyway...

I find the Wiccan religion to be quite intriguing, and hold absolutely nothing against them. If I weren't Mormon, I'd either be agnostic, aetheist, or Wiccan. (Probably Wiccan because of my friend.)

My mother is somewhat wiccan. She doesn't do or believe in spells or anything like that, but she is a very nature-y person. I forget exactly what her beliefs are. They've naturally changed over time.

I pretty much view Wiccanism (I'm not sure if that's the correct word, correct me if there is a better one) and Paganism the same way I view any other religion; I'm fine if someone else wants to practice it so long as it's not hurting anyone and they respect that I (and many others) cannot believe in it and that if I want to know about it, I'll ask.
I'm a little naturally protective of it because my mother is one and a lot of people think it's evil and satanist and shit like that. But seeing as she's not very Wiccan herself, I don't have much sentimentality towards it.

Sorry to hear that. >.< Bashing another religion or belief isn't right...But don't take it too personally. I mean, I'm sure I would, too...But he might be just teasing and not mean it. Just ignore it as much as you can. ^^

@ Cherry Flavored Antacid
You're mother might be Pagan if she doesn't do the whole magick and spell thing. Paganism is almost the same thing, but they don't do spells.

And its called Wicca. ^^ Not Wiccanism. And nope, nothing bad about either of them unless you MAKE it bad. We don't even believe in the devil. We don't know exactly where 'he' came from, but since Christians have a story with him being an angel and betrayed God, or something like that, then we're pretty sure he came from Christians. But we don't want to pin it on anyone.

It is sad we're called Satanists. As I said, we don't even believe in the devil. I think that the reason some people think we do is because they don't understand our religion, and it probably seems 'dark.' But it isn't. And we have a horned God. We usually look to a stag, or a buck.

Well, ask me whatever you want to know! 8D I'll tell you what I know. ^^

I have never met one personally, so I can't say.

But any religion that pulls us closer to nature can't be bad. ;)

Well, I'm the only Mormon he actually likes, and I know he's serious about it all (he explains all his reasons in full detail and all that and always stumps me with his confusing quesitons and analogies.) I don't really take it personally. He's an amazing kid. And I love all his strange conspiracy theories. He's quite entertaining.

My dad doesn't like Wiccans. It annoys me when he says thigns against them, too. And when he calls gays and pretty much anyone who has tattoos, or more than one piercing freaks. *shrug* You learn to live with crap like that after a while.

cuddlyemokitten pagaism and wiccan are not one in the same.

Wicca/Witchcraft is merely a form of paganism. Paganism is a term used for people with pre-Christian beliefs. While all Wiccans are Pagans, not all Pagans are Wiccans.

Good values. That's really my only opinion, I don't know much about it. I had a book on it once. The most significant thing I remember from my book was how to position your furniature in relation to the earth's poles to achieve a greater sense of comfort and to also sleep better. I tried it and I did sleep better.

Paganism was formed BEFORE Christianity. How, may I ask, is it for people with 'pre-christian' beliefs?

While it is true that Wicca is under the umbrella of Paganism, Paganism was around longer than Christianity. I was not implying that Wicca and Paganism are exactly the same thing, because they are not. But they do have the same beliefs, as in respecting and honoring nature. They are both nature based. Don't make me rant, though, please...If I do, I'll say things I don't want to...Mostly to Christians, or more so, Catholics...Very closed minded Catholics. >.<

@ Tut'ankhamun
Well, if he's not creating a problem for you, then great. ^^

Your dad will not like me, then. xD I'm Wiccan and gay...And I want a tattoo! xDD

@ Nada Kyo
Nope. Its not bad at all. Look into it or ask me questions. ^^

@ slickie
Really? That's great! I'm happy something like that helped you to sleep, especially coming from...Was it a book for Pagans, or Wiccans? I'm assuming Wiccans, yes?

Well I am REALLY interested in Wicca and witchcraft, I've read many books and even tried some spells..
but the more I learn from wicca the more I think it's not for me.
sure, I love nature and their morals are wonderful, but I just can't find myself believing in gods.
I think god is something created by human.. the only god is the nature itself =3

I think the same thing about Wicca as I do about pretty much all religions - I think it's largely a silly and pointless exercise, but if it makes people happy without hurting anyone else, then it's cool with me.

I just don't believe in magic or gods or anything like that, but I do have a soft spot for Wicca because it seems to be a really positive religion compared to some of the other ones. There have not been any wars because of Wicca, and Wiccans don't bomb abortion clinics or US embassies. Most Wiccans I've met have been extremely nice people.

I actually used to be kinda into paganism, when I was trying to figure out where I stood religiously, and I really liked the balanced nature of the religion. I think that understanding the worlds in terms of natural cycles and looking to the complexity of the world around us as a foundation for religion is cool. Plus, I like goddess worship - if I believed in a diety, I'd believe in a divine feminine.

So, overall Wicca's pretty cool - I just don't think it's true in any meaningful sense. But I don't believe in the supernatural at all, so perhaps I am the wrong person to ask.

Any religion that doesn't try to shove devoted patriarchalism on me. Especially the fanatic style is generally going in the right direction. I was seriously told that a woman has the status of a child by certain religious people.
WHy?...becuase people need to be treated according to abilites and whoever can move a large rock deserves to be more important. A man usually has more strenght so he deserves more power.
If you want to mess with these people start asking about handicapped men. Do they lose their special male privileges?.

THAT and being homephobic tends to drive me away from certain religions right off.
Start trying to put homesexual people down and I'm not interested/. I wonder how these people would fare in a society that put down their heterosexuality and made their life more difficult.

I'd rather see inter-sexed beliefs, but since religion is so saturated with the male God image, balancing it out with a Goddess seems just fine to me.

I have heard that Easter came from Paganism and they started what became Christmas.

You should look into Pantheism. I don't know if all of their ideas correspond with yours, but they feel the same as you do about nature.

Here's a website about their basic beliefs: http://www.pantheism.net/

@ EpoxyObsession
Well, we all have our own beliefs, and its fine if you don't believe in magick or gods. For us, the God and Goddess play a huge role in our lives. We always look to them for guidance, as I'm sure that many other people look to their own god for that as well.

Its fine that you don't believe in it, so long as you know we're not evil and trying to make things evil. I, personally, don't believe in abortion, but I will not go to a clinic and bomb it because of it. It is the woman's choice whether she wants to have that child or not, even if she is killing another life.

@ Claudia
No, no. We would never try to convert someone into our religion without their will. If someone would like to know about it, then we will tell them what we know. And if they chose to become Pagan or Wiccan, then it is their choice.

Mmm, well, we believe in equality. Man is not powerful because of his strength. There are women more powerful than men because of their magick. And that might sound weird and confusing to people who are not Wiccan, but again, it's based on personal beliefs.

Mmm, we are not a religion that 'bans' someone for their sexuality. Its not right. And I honestly think its stupid to call it a sin. Now, I WAS Catholic, but I never read the Bible. But I had a couple of friends who did, and they said that homosexuals would only be looked down upon and cast away, or something like that. So, I'm not sure, but I do think its dumb.

And I like the fact that we don't just have A GOD, but we also have A GODDESS. I think most Wiccans look to her, ask for her guidance the most. At least I do. ^^

Yes, Ostara (Easter for some) is a Pagan holiday, and it was a Pagan holiday to begin with. The same as Yule (Christmas).

@ everyone
Its like what a few great people have said said:
Quote:
"We are not evil. We don't harm or seduce people. We are not dangerous. We are ordinary people like you. We have families, jobs, hopes, and dreams. We are not a cult. This religion is not a joke. We are not what you think we are from looking at T.V. We are real. We laugh, we cry. We are serious. We have a sense of humor. You don't have to be afraid of us. We don't want to convert you. And please don't try to convert us. Just give us the same right we give you--to live in peace. We are much more similar to you than you think." Margot Adler
Quote:
"We should educate people that 'Witch' is not evil but ancient and positive. The first time I called myself a 'Witch' was the most magical moment of my life." Margot Adler.
This is one of my favorite quotes, as well as this one:
Quote:
"If you take {A copy of} the Christian Bible and put it out in the wind and the rain, soon the paper on which the words are printed will disintegrate and the words will be gone. Our bible IS the wind and the rain." ~Herbalist Carol McGrath as told to her by a Native-American woman~
And I like this one, too!:

Quote:
"When one defines oneself as Pagan, it means she or he follows an earth or nature religion, one that sees the divine manifest in all creation. The cycles of nature are our holy days, the earth is our temple, its plants and creatures our partners and teachers. We worship a deity that is both male and female, a mother Goddess and father God, who together created all that is, was, or will be. We respect life, cherish the free will of sentient beings, and accept the sacredness of all creation." Edain McCoy

I like wicca because it's the only religion that I've come across that doesn't try to control you. And it's a very accepting religion, along with not trying to push it onto others.
My sister is wicca. We were brought up Christains-not the hard core type, we went through phases when we went to church every Sunday and phases when we didn't-and my sister was just never quite comfortable with it. When she got older, she starting reading up on wicca and it feels right to her.
I'm between wicca and Christian.

I love wicca though, because it isn't...oppressive like a lot of religions are. It's about doing good, wishing good things, and appreciating the earth. It's about putting out into the world what you want to get back, and about getting everything you put out there back three fold.

@ havenmasters
I can relate with your sister. I was brought up as a Catholic, going to Sunday school and all that. And it just seems so boring to me, and what the Priest was saying was...well, I just didn't believe. I don't think being Catholic is right for me, and very closed minded Catholics...well...Lets just say I don't get along with them anymore....

I started looking at Wicca when my BEST friend introduced it to me. My mom dun like her very much, but I don't care. xD Wicca is right for me. Its a good religion, and it doesn't try to control you. It doesn't say that you're going to hell because you had sex without being married, or that you believe in more than one god, or if you steal. Stealing is bad, but still, it doesn't say you'll be sent to hell for it. -_- We don't even believe in hell....I wonder who we're called Satanist then....

Yup, that's what its all about! 8D I honestly don't see anything evil about that. I actually talked to the Catholic priest about why Wicca was so evil. I didn't tell him I was already Wiccan by then, but I told him my friend was. xD He said "Steer her away from it!" And I was kind like.."yeah, whatever...*Eye roll.*

But yes, every good you send out you get back three fold...Same with bad. Yes, there can be evil in Wicca. And you'll get whatever bad you send back three fold. There is evil in every good, but its not the religion, its the people. >.<

@ yar im pocky
Do you believe in ONE god, or many? I'm not sure what religion that would be, but I thank you for for saying that. I hate it when people say homosexuals will go to hell because of their sexuality. Thats not fair. T.T Well, I don't believe in hell, so there! I shall not be sent to a place that doesn't exist! 8D

I don't mind Wicca or Paganism. I like that they accept different lifestyles (especially gay/lesbian cause I support them). I don't have any opinion of them, cause truth is I don't know too much about them. I would like to learn about them though. I think it's a bit interesting.
