I have been caring for plants through the summer, they have been sad all winter to I decided to try and perk them up by giving them some love.
I have read that used coffee grounds can be used as a great fertilizer, compost, and is great for repelling bugs that like to snack on your garden naturally.
I have also read that they can be used as a gentle exfoliator for your skin and can be used as a foot soak to revitilize the body and absorb toxic build up through your feet. Kind of like a clay mask absorbing oils and unpleasant things from your face.

I am very interested in what else used coffee grounds can be used for as they are being given away by Starbucks for free as part of their "Green" movement.

What are some other uses for coffee grounds that you may know of?

Yeah, I have a gigantic compost pile with coffee grinds... They really helped with my strawberry plants. ^^

I love coffee. <333 Other than for fertilizer... I really don't know.
Starbucks is so anti-green... lol.

Hey, cool!
SB has always given away the grounds - I used to work there ^^
Not sure what else they're good for, but at the store I worked at, a farmer would always stop by with some veggies, and he would also take away all our grounds. :) So I imagine that they make GREAT fertilizer!

I don't know about coffee grounds, but I do know a pretty cool webcomic that simplistically talks about alternative ways to do things for the go-green effort. It's actually really interesting, and easy to understand as well.

I know that they can be used in compost, but that would be about it. Okay so I know it is cynical and all, but it just seems like Starbucks is asking you to take its garbage away so they don't have to pay to have it removed.

I don't drink the stuff so I never think to reuse it. I do takes baths with teabags though, it works wonders for stopping the sting of a sunburn.

@Thoth: Oh, wow, you grow strawberries? How do you do your compost? (how do you start a compost box?) I am so new at this and very eager to learn.
@Vampire Box: How does he take them? Does he bring a bucket or something? Haha, It's kind of funny to picture a farmer with a bucket and sand shovel.
@Merrow: I took a look at it, it is interesting. I would like to store rainwater, but I am afraid of it attracting mosquitoes if I did it wrong. I think drainage systems would be expensive to have done professionally for the purpose of collecting water.. Hopefully I am wrong.
@Amyrex: I never knew tea could help with sunburn, I burn so easily but am allergic to most lotions. :o I should try that if I burn again.

A new thing I found out was used coffee grounds mixed with orange peels can repel cats from digging and chewing up your garden. The alley cats attacked and claimed a few lives of my children during the summer. I was so mad, chased them away with a hose. The neighbor feeds them all and we are in row homes. I tried wetting the ground and putting down red pepper flakes and sprinkled my plants with them. Still didn't stop them. I shall try the orang/coffee ground mix this year.

I didn't know coffee grounds could be used in so many great ways! I think thats a great thing for the environment because todays society LIVES AND BREATHES coffee. Like me.
Good to know that it can be used that way. When I get my own house, and have a nice garden I will be sure to recycle my grounds to make awesome plants and a vegetable garden.n.n

Alright, found a new one. Used coffee grounds can be used to rid your pets of fleas, ticks, and nits.

My mom has a coffee maker that she keeps at work, and she saves the coffee grounds for me to use on my herb garden.
Did wonders for my basil when it started unexplainably wilting.

Oh, cool. I have been using the coffee grounds from my parent's morning coffee to use as a mulch for my herbs. They are in the basement and not happy to be there. I would let them out in the yard again but I want to be certain the frost will not rear it's head again and kill them. Hopefully a nice cup of java will get them going.
My herbs run on Dunkin's.

Try putting them in the sunlight. Mine sit on the kitchen window sill during the day, and then when it gets dark during winter months, I take them away from the window.
