So, what's your take on braces? Think they're cute? Hideously disgusting?

I was totally pumped to get my braces. I don't think the date I got them on could have come any sooner. Then, I felt the pain. >.<

But then, after about 6 months, I was counting down until the estimated date I would get them off. xD Food easily got stuck in them, and flossing was always a challenge, and they were just plain annoying.

April 1st was the day I went in to get them removed, hopefully for good. The product is amazing and I definitely think it was 100% worth it. ;D

The retainers aren't that bad, they're clear and after the first 3 months I'll only have to wear them when I'm asleep. :3

Now I want to hear about your experiences with a mouth full of metal ;D

I think it's a complete waste of money. My teeth were all straight before I got them, but my dentist insisted that I get them anyways. Having a mouth full of metal that cause pain for 4,000 dollars isn't worth it...

I apparently had bad teeth. I sucked my thumb. Ummm, then I had to get some heavy duty braces, an expander (a device that broke the bone on the top of my mouth and expanded it), and some internal head gear. Instead of it going around my head it was bolted to my teeth and push my jaw forward (herbst appliance).

After all I went through, it was worth it. (: I have very straight and beautiful teeth.


You could see the bars on the side of my face cause my cheeks were tight.
People would get annoyed because I'd play with it in class as I was sitting there. I could unhook the bars, kinda twirl them around, then get them back into place. x)

All that stuff really hurt. D: But you get over it.
I get it all off before my freshman year in high school, luckily.

I now have a retainer I'm suppose to wear every night forever and ever.
I haven't worn it in like a year. XDD It's one of those invisaline ones.

I'm just wondering, what does the retainer do? Do you have to wear it? And what happens if you swallow it in your sleep? o.o

Oh! And I have a permanent metal bar behind my front bottom teeth. It's really annoying sometimes, but most of the time I forget it's even there. The cement broke off one of the teeth and now that tooth is cricked. xD I never went in to get it fixed, so I can totally see why I need it.

I have one of those permanent retainers on my bottom front teeth too :3
I'm supposed to wear my retainers 24/7 for the first 3 months, but after that I assume my orthodontist will tell me I only have to wear 'em at night.
Wearing the retainers is only a small price to pay for the beautifully straight teeth :D

xP My teeth are straight enough now. xD I don't want to wear it anymore.

When you say "permanent" do you mean forever? o.o

Jurubot has braces. I got them on October 7th. The first day the wire poked my cheek and the metal rubbed the inside of my lip but after that it's been fine. Granted when they get tightened it is hard to chew for a couple days since my teeth are really sensitive.

I will say that it is no fun getting your tongue caught on the multitude of wires you end up with in your mouth. My daughter called me a dumb ass as I'm sitting in my chair saying Ow Ow Ow...

I'll be glad to get them off in oh.. a year.

Jurupamae~ My wire was constantly poking my cheek. I had to go to get it trimmed at least 20 times I'd say. Sometimes, I would even have a little hole in my cheek where it kept rubbing me. D;
And I've gotten my tongue stuck on the wire too.. not fun!

Can't you use wax for the wires?
Also...tell me more about this bar... o.o Like is it cemented onto your molars and there is a bar thing that goes from one molar to the other?

The wire would poke through the wax D: it was sticking out pretty far, I'd estimate 2mm.

And my permanent retainer goes from my canine tooth to my other canine I'd say, and it's cemented there. :3

You could always put a huge clump on wax on it XD

It really doesn't taste like anything.
One time I forgot it was there and I saw eating, and I swallowed it XD It was a huge clump too o.o I stopped using it after that XD

Braces can be cute. Retainers gross me out, though. Mainly when people take them out... I have a major aversion to spit.

I've never had braces. My teeth are almost all completely straight as is. I think it would be a waste of money for me.

One time I ate wax without knowing it was wax XD

There should be flavored wax... o.o
Like candles! But I don't think candles taste that great... I don't plan on finding out soon.

eh, I only hated braces because of the way they looked on me. I was always very selfconcious. But looking back on it it wasn't that bad. I actually didn't mind the pain too much, sometimes it was fun to play with >.>:

I hate braces with every fiber of my being! I was lucky I only had to get them on the bottoms. There off now think goodness but I would have LOVED to punch the guy in the face more than once. For the main reason is b/c the day I got them off he said, "Oh, you probably didn't even have to have braces." ....... Yeah..... I could have Killed him....

Amelia- Well you never really have to have them. It's just to help make you teeth look better, but you don't really need them.

I had braces for almost 3 years, I got them off October of last year.
When I first got them, I remember I was one of the first kids to get braces so it was kind of weird having everyone want to see :/
They were pretty painful, I couldn't wait to get them out.
For more than a year, my orthodontist was telling me, oh we'll get them off during your next appointment! She said that so many times, I stopped believing her after she said it 2 or 3 times.
I hated wearing braces because of the pain but I actually don't mind braces overall. Like if someone has braces that wouldn't bother me at all. I guess the braces were worth it but I'm glad I got them over with. Now I have to wear my retainer for a full year 24/7, then right after school for a year, and then wear them only at night for I don't know how long.

Mine used to cut my lips and mouth up all the time. I hated them so much. Made me look ugly too. I am glad I had them though as my teeth look better now and I did not have a crowded mouth for wisdom teeth as some other teeth were taken instead. I am just really glad those 2 years are gone.

Oh yeah, the pain after each time he tighten them was the worst! There were times I thought he was going to break them!
