The worlds are coming unraveled.
The very fabric of the multiverse is starting to come apart at the seams, and no one knows why.
For uncounted Aeons there were many worlds, many realities, all existing separately from each other, never touching, never interacting. Worlds where Magic was common place, where it never existed at all, where it was dominated by the rich, where it was shunned by all but the poor. Elves, demons, monsters, mechas, animals, unspoiled wilderness, ruined war-torn worlds, every possibility of existence... existed. It was balanced. But now the worlds have begun to interact, portals have begun opening, seemingly at random. Everyone is scrambling to take advantage of the new opportunites being offered, but worlds were never meant to co-exist like this. Once a portal opens, everything changes. Magic and technology go into flux, balanced ecosystems are upset by new predators, uncounted wars have begun through the portals, and yet all of this is minor compared to the fate of the realities themselves. There have been rumors... That if too many portals open in one reality the reality begins to fold in on itself, time itself coming unraveled before it simply ceases to exist.
And more portals are opening every day...
And there's the intro! The basic idea behind this was to let it be a crossroads roleplay, with most creatures and histories allowed, while still giving it a sense of urgency. Now onto the rules.
1. While you can be powerful, you still can't godmode. The realities are in flux, you might have been a god on your own plane, but it's doubtful you're at full power now.
2. If you want to roleplay a jerk, fine. But don't make life unreasonably difficult for the rest of us. This IS a setting where many people of diffrent types mix, so don't try to start fights with everyone different then you.
3. Go ahead and post your characters, I maintain just two basic rules here:
3a. Give a description if nothing else. The rest of us need to know what we're looking at. You don't need to give a backstory if you don't want to, it will all come out in the rp anyway.
3b. As I mentioned in rule 1, you are not all powerful. you might have been once, but considering the number of worlds now open and the effects that's having, you aren't now. Mages are finding their magic to be unreliable, technology malfunctions more then usual, supernatural powers are doing strange new things that you don't know how to control... Try to keep that in mind.
Other then that, go nuts! I'll put in new rules if they become neseccary, and I'll be posting a character of my own in a minute.:squee:

Wandering through the streets is a young girl, at least that is how she looks at first. A second glance identifies her abnormally pointed ears and a slight greenish pallor to her skin. She is a little over five feet at a glance, and her long blonde hair has fallen over her face, shielding it from view as she worries a stone in her hand, mumbling quietly. She is dressed in stereotypical forest clothing, that a recluse might wear. A long leather tunic and chaps, cinched tight with a belt of rope from which hangs a dagger in sheath and several small pouches. She worries at the stone almost frantically, turning it over and over in her hands and rubbing it, mumbling in what sounds like a pleading tone, though without getting closer it's hard to tell.

Yellow eyes follow the elf-like girl as she makes her way down the road. They belong to a slender young woman, seated in the shadows of a tavern awning. It is difficult to tell in the dark, but in light her skin is a brilliant bright blue, freckled with darker shades. Her black hair is pulled up in an elaborate twist behind two curved horns that sprout from her forehead. They fade from the color of her skin to a brilliant red at the tips.
The young woman sits regally, almost like a princess, but her clothing is poor and the spaces that would have held jewelry in her ears and lips are empty. A refugee. Escaped from a world so riddled with portals that its ecosystem was destroyed in a matter of days. The sun blotted out over the thick jungles that this young woman had once called home.
She stands. If she were human she would be unnaturally tall, but she was actually rather short for her species. Her long limbs are tense, and she narrows her yellow eyes as the girl passes close to her. A long blade appears in her hand, glinting briefly in the shadow. Silently, she begins to follow the elf-like being, watching her hands flicker and worry over the stone in her hands.
((Hey there! This looks like an interesting plot, do you mind if I join in? :B))

(Not at all!)
The girl twisted the stone several more times before heaving a sigh and slipping it into a pouch at her waist. Glancing around her briefly she shuddered before turning into an alleyway, seemingly unaware she was being followed. Once in the alley she glanced around again before pulling a piece of charcoal out of another pouch and starting to draw various symbols on the wall, lower lip clenched between her teeth with concentration. As she looked up at one of her symbols her hair fell back, revealing hawklike features with large eyes that were as green as new leaves. Seemingly unaware of her surroundings she continued to draw...

The young woman let out a hiss of breath. She could feel the rough cobbles through the thin soles of her shoes. The air was cold - much colder than the air back home, too cold. She eyed the pouches around the girl's waist, wondering how much money she could be carrying. Hidden in the shadow of the wall, the strange woman watched with golden eyes as the girl took out her charcoal and began to draw. The smooth sound of the charcoal of the wall was soothing - like the hissing of wind between the trees. There were far too few trees here.
The young woman watched, mesmerized, as the strange symbols and shapes formed under the green girl's hand. The knife disappeared from her hand.
"What are you doing?"

It takes a moment for the girl to react, then as if realizing she was being addressed she glanced over her shoulder. Her eyes widened visibly at the sight that greeted her and she let out a yelp and scrambled for her dagger, tracing a swift design with her other hand in the air. There was a brief shimmer of stars at her hand but nothing else as she froze with her hand on her dagger. After a moment of stillness she realized she wasn't being attacked and relaxed slightly. When she spoke it was hesitant and shaky, "H-How long have you been there?"

"Since you began to draw." The young woman said evenly. She had watched the girl's surprised attempt to defend herself without moving. Her face stayed as flat and calm as the surface of an undisturbed pool.
The woman approached the wall and lightly traced the design with her fingers. "Is it a spell?" She asked, folding her long arms loosely in front of her chest. "I don't know it." She looked the girl over, noting her worried expression, long hair worn loose in her face, and strange clothing. Of course, no clothing was strange these days, not with the worlds pouring into each other in such a strong torrent. The young woman had seen all kinds of strange - so many that there were none left to surprise her.

The girl sighed. "It's supposed to be, but I can't get most of my magic to work. Even the spell I tried on you just fizzled. My focus stone is dead, my spells don't work, and I was never the greatest fighter... I'm so glad you're friendly. I just don't know what to do..." The girl sighed and added another couple of symbols to the wall before turning back to the woman that towered over her "Are you a mage as well?"

"I don't use magic. I'm a warrior of Nataulpa." She ignored the 'I'm glad you're friendly'. The woman wasn't sure she was friendly - yet. The girl did look relieved, though, and like she needed a friend. The young woman bit her lip. She shouldn't think of people that way - strangers don't need sympathy.
She glanced at the charcoal symbol again. Somehow it seemed familiar...she remembered taking shelter under the huge leaves of a Kidao tree, one that grew huge and tall in the sweltering jungle where she once lived. They'd pretended to draw spells in the dirt until an adult came and shooed them away, warning them that they might conjure anything by accident with their scrawls.
"What is this for?" She asked, turning her eyes down to the pale green girl by her side.

The girl blinked "This? It's a scrying spell. If it works..." She added another few symbols so that the patterns began to form a rough circle "Then I should be able to see whoever I wish through... well it's a bit like a portal, only you can't go through it, only look. I'm trying to find my companions. We got separated in the chaos. What's your story?" The girl turned to face the woman and examined her closer. She had seen much in the last few weeks, but nothing like her.

A big dog walked down the street but if you looked closer you could see it wasn't a dog but a wolf. A pure white wolf that looked sad and lost. He had been here for a while now and so far he hated this new world. He had been one of the first and the only of his world to make it to a new one before it was destroyed. But he entered this world in his wolf form and not his human form. Magic hardly ever worked in this world so he could harldy ever change back to his human form. He had tryed to talk to people but they just got scared and ran for it. He sighed to himself and walked into a ally where he saw two girls. He wondered if any of them had food on them. He walked over and licked the one girl with blond hair and licked her hand to get her attention and whimpered a little bit.

"My name is Anyes." The woman said, her yellow eyes meeting the girl's. "My world was one of the first to crumble. It was small." She sighed. She felt the short blade that she'd tucked into the waistband of her skirt. It was the last artifact of her home that she had. The rest of her clothes and jewelry had to be sold or had been stolen. It was the only piece of Nataulpa that she still had with her.
"I never learned to do any magic. But your symbols look familiar to me, somehow." Anyes said, rubbing charcoal grit between her fingers. There was charcoal everywhere. Charcoal from the fires at the portals, and glass where lightning struck the ground.
Anyes' slightly pointed ears pricked up, taking in the sound of paws scritching on the cobblestones. She turned to see the white wolf, luminous in the gray light of the city. She had known animals like wolves - companions of the hunters and trackers in her jungle. She knelt down and held out her hand for it to sniff. She was more relaxed with animals than she was with people. They were easier to be around. An animal wouldn't judge, as long as you showed it kindness.

The wolf looked at the other girl with her hand out to him. He sniffed at the hand then layed his big head in it. His eyes looked tired and he was. But when he heard them talking about magic he smirked a little. "it is useless to try to use magic here, magic dosen't work here" he said softly and sat down and kept his head in the girls hand. "you can try all you like but it will never work" he said as he looked at them.

The girl nodded at Anyes and replied "And I am Yama. My sympathies for your wor-" Yama froze in place with wide eyes as the wolf approached and flinched when it touched her, making no response. When it did not attack and moved away she relaxed slightly but remained wary, fingering her knife. When the wolf spoke she stiffened up again and stumbled backwards against the wall. After a moment she sighed and rubbed at her forehead. "I really hate this world. What are you really? Or..." she paused and looked at him again "Are you really a wolf that talks?"

The wolf looked at the girl who said her name was Yama. "Well right now I am just a wolf that can talk in this world. But in my home world I use to be able to turn into a human, but that used magic and magic dosen't work in this world so yes, in this world I am considered a talking wolf." he said as he looked at her. "but I have to agree with you when I comes to hateing this world." he stood up and walked over to her. He nuzzled his nose into the palm of her hand, he had seen how she reacted to him earlyer and wanted to show that he meant now harm. This was how dogs showed they meant no harm when a human was scared so he was trying it.

On my world wolves like you are vicious and predators to be reckoned with, t-this will take some getting used to." She edged away from him slightly, towards the imposing, but reassuring mass of Anyes. "But if magic doesn't work here... Then I guess I-" she nodded at him "And I guess you too, should find a portal to a world where magic does work." She hung her head slightly so that her hair covered her eyes once more "I'm nothing without it, I'm no warrior, not even a wolf. I'm practically defenseless."

The wolf looked at her when she said she was defenseless and felt sorry for her. He walked towards he slowly and licked her hand again. This time you could tell that he ment no harm what so ever and that he was going no where. "I would but finding a magic world is hard and it seems that you need help. I may be able to help you." he siad the looked at the symbols on the wall. "by the looks of it your looking for someone or something, if you give me a scent or something I might be able to help you find them" he siad as he looked at her.

Yama flinched slightly, but less this time. She sighed "I'm afraid I don't have a scent. My friends and I were scattered and we aren't even the same race. That's why I was trying to scry, I know what they look like, but have no object of theirs I could use with a location spell. I don't even know if they're still on this world. It's hopeless. If I'm to have any chance of finding them I need magic. And for that I guess I need a world that hasn't been disturbed too much."

Anyes crossed her arms again, eager to hide the hand that she had extended to the speaking wolf. She had never seen an animal talk, not even back in Nataulpa. Even though her face stayed calm, her heart beat had quickened when words had issued from the canine mouth. She was trying to resist her normal impulse, which was to scratch the white wolf's head and tell it what a good dog it was for being so smart. She gave herself a little shake to dislodge this thought.
"Let's get out of this alley," Anyes suggested. "It's starting to feel a little cramped in here. That is, if you're done with your spell, Yama?" She turned her eyes to the greenish girl. Back home, a warrior's strength was displayed by how tall and strong they were. Even though Anyes' people were gangly, they could move incredibly fast and were generally very graceful. It was surprising, therefore, to meet someone who had survived just as much as she had, if not more, who was around a head shorter than she. Could big courage come in small packages? Well just have to see.
The wolf's fluffy tail was also tugging at a corner of her mind, urging her to give it a stroke, another reason she'd like to get out of close corners.

The wolf nodded at Anyes "yes I think that is a great idea but I won't be able to talk to you till we get to a private place since people in this world dont' like weird things." he said as he walked over to Anyes and looked at her with his blue eyes. Then for a second you could see the outline of a man where the wolf was but it dissappeared just as sson as it appeared. "oh and by the way my name is Ivan." he said with a smile. He could see that Anyes was holding herself back from doing something but wasn't sure what.

"Ivan. Got it. I'm almost done." Yama added a few more symbols before rummaging around in her pouches. eventually she withdrew a handfull of power that she blew at the symbols. As the powder settled she spoke a few words. The symbols glowed for a moment before a milky white oval appeared in the center. Several shadowy shapes were dimly visible through it and Yama stared at them desperately, willing them to come into focus but to no avail. After several seconds the image faded entirely and the oval shortly after. Yama turned to her companions with a sigh. "I'm done, it's no use. All of my magic is weakened to the point of uselessness."

Dracorix was perched on a ledge where he was momentarily sheltering, his long black hair being swept around by the wind, his red eyes watching the pedestrians below. He was wearing a red T-shirt with a dragon design on it and long black pants. Sitting on his waist was a sheath covered in runes and holding a broadsword. Huge golden scaled wings sprouted out of his back, half-furled and fighting against the wind. Unfortunately, his wings forced him to stay off the streets to avoid constant stares and gawks from everybody with a line of sight to him. People with wings seemed to be an anomaly in this world, which was a fact that he was finding hard to adjust to from his sky-based homeworld. Luckily, on this ledge, he would likely be perceived for a statue if anybody happened to look up. He was too high up for his hair to be noticed.
Getting bored, he fully extended his wings and took flight, immediately being nearly slammed into the wall behind him by the wind. Once he made it out of the buildings, however, a simple wind wouldn't stop the joy from bursting across his face. This was where he was meant to be, up in the air, flying free. He circled a nearby skyscraper, then dared himself to reach one of the flying machines the inhabitants of this world had dreamed up. He made it, but the thing was amazingly fast and he couldn't keep up. Ah, if only he could become a dragon again, then he could keep up with the machine. Unfortunately, this world seemed to have drained all the magic out of him and he could no longer change. Ah, well, he'd just have to make do in this two-legged form.
Getting lonely, he returned to the ground to find another winged person he could fly with. Failing that, his eyes alighted on a small group, two females and a white dog - or was that a wolf? - and he landed on a nearby building. One of the girls, who had blonde hair and pointed ears, was attempting to make something with magic on the wall. It worked for a few seconds, although not particularly well, then faded into nothing but symbols. The other girl and the dog/wolf were watching her. She turned around, and Dracorix decided to go meet them. Flying down to the ground outside the alley so as to seem less conspicuous, he folded his wings and entered the alleyway.

Yama's sensitive ears alerted her to the newcomer as soon as he entered the alleyway. She turned to look at him as he entered, shifting surripticiously to be out of the way of the fighters should something go down. This world kept hammering home how useless she was, and she didn't intend for her next lesson to end with her death. She had been really lucky so far. Her carelessness and preoccupation with her magic had let not one, but two people to catch her off guard and she didn't intend for it to happen again.

Ivan ran infront of Yama and growled at the new comer. He wasn't sure what he was going to do and he didn't want Yama to get hurt. She had no magic and there for was defenceless. His fur was raised up all along his back and growled at the newcomer even more. He would ask what he wanted but he didn't want to scare him so he stayed quiet.

Anyes' eyes flicked to the new, strange young man. Immediately something caught her attention. Wings! The newcomer had folded them discreetly behind his back, but Anyes could still see their golden sheen in the dim light. She'd seen people with wings before - there had been small, sylvan people back home with iridescent wings like dragonflies. This man, however, had a far more impressive pair.
His clothing was strange to her, but, then again, everything here was strange. The people, the languages...Anyes drew her knife warily, even though the expression on the stranger's face was not threatening. One could never be too sure, not in a place - or a time - like this.
The wind was picking up, and the chute-like streets of the city acted as wind tunnels. It raced past them and pulled little tendrils of Anyes' hair out of its pinning. The air began to smell like rain.
