Worlds at War - For Lavinia and Amara Nightfire!

Background History (Best to read)

"The Elves and Humans are at war with each other and have been for the past 50 years. Some say that most have forgotten the reasons for the war all together and still they continue to fight each other. Throughout these years rebels and groups of neutral humans and elves have banded together and refused to fight each other any more.

These clans would grow up to live in harmony together and many humans and elves fall in love and give birth to half elves. (half human half elf), which result in children with both human and elven abilities, such as strength, agility, and magic abilities. Most half elves look more human than elven, but retain the pointed ears and multi-coloured eyes.

The clans of half elves get bigger every year, but are in no way big or smart enough to end the war themselves, so they continue to live in harmony, away from the war, and wait for the day they get the chance to stop the war, all together."

'Calis' - Child of Tomas(Human) and Aglaranna(Elf) of the Elgan Clan.

Calis is a half elf, born in the Forests of Elgan where his clan lives. He is 45 years old in human years, but his heritage makes him appear as a young 17 year old boy. He is quick, strong, and very talented with a bow and he is a tracker for his clan, watching for danger and enemies.

Calis' outer shell can come across as stubborn, and cocky at times, but he is very caring and loveable once you get to know him.

Calis longs for peace throughout the world of Triavon, having heard about it most of his half-elf life, whilst living on the edge of it with his Clan brothers and sisters.

"Calis! Calis! Can i ride with you? Please let me ride with you! Please...!" The boy tugged on Calis' cloak. He often heard pleads such as these. He was one of the few half-elves that could ride a horse well, so much so that if he was having a good day, he would take one of the younger of the clan out with him.

Today was different however, for it was not just a routine walk for Calis. He had picked up a scent for trouble in the early hours of the morning, as he thought he heard scouts entering their forest, and he wasn't planning on risking anybody's lives today. They were precious enough. So he planned to hunt whoever it was down today...before they got any closer.

"Not today Jimmy. I have important work to do today. Maybe tomorrow" He replied. Giving a smile that assured the boy that he would keep his word.

"Aaaw, b-but...Fiiine." Jimmy responded, unamused, but happy, as he ran back to his hut to be with his brothers.

Calis jumped on his horse, a black Stallion, and headed deep in to the Elgan Forest, looking for any signs of life. Human, or non human. Either had the potential to be dangerous...

After several hours of scoping the forest, Calis jumped off his horse, and kneeled to the ground, sniffing the leaves, when he thought he heard a whistling sound somewhere in the distance. Suddenly, Calis rolled to one side, closely avoiding an arrow before flipping his own bow over his shoulder, aiming an arrow back in the direction of the whistle.

"Show yourself and you will not be harmed!" Calis shouted, with frustration in he voice. That arrow was aimed straight for his back.

To his suprise, his best friend, Micha, a female half-elf, stepped out from behind a tree about 20 metres in front of him and responded. "Anybody else and they would have been dead. Why are you so quick to avoid sudden death Calis?"

"Micha. You...you...you almost had me!" He paused, while he let his heart rate settle. "Tell me, why do you still test me? Can you not accept that i am the best tracker in these forests?" He said, with a cheeky grin on his face. He was bigging himself up of course, even though he knew he WAS the best tracker in his clan.

"Hah. You wish! Just because i am a woman, does not mean that i cannot beat you", She said, grinning back, before jumping on Calis' horse and galloping away, as fast as the Stallion would take her.

"That woman!" He grumbled to himself, knowing she was already too far for his voice to reach her. He picked up his arrows, tying them to his back, before running back to camp, to announce a false alarm...again.

((Hows that? xD Sorry it took me so long! >< ))

Forest green eyes watched birds swoop and soar high above her. Sighing deeply Azariah tore her eyes away from the carefree creatures to scan her surroundings. Seeing nothing she glanced first to her left then to her right.

On ether side of her road two guards both their faces stern. She had to marvel at their unwavering concentration, she for one was not in the least bit worried. So far through all of her travels none have been so bold as to strike a high elf so she wasn’t too worried. They however picked up every sound and every movement treating the smallest butterfly as a threat. It was tiresome to watch them really so she focused more on all the beautiful things that took place around her. It was only out of sheer habit that she would very now and then truly take in her surroundings.

Letting her mind drift to more important maters she thought about what it was she was supposed to accomplish. Really she wasn’t sure. She had had to take the place of her mother in a counsel meeting. The meeting was to be held in a neighboring kingdom just south of where her own home presided. The meeting itself was supposed to be about the war but to her they had always been a waist of time. All they ever seemed to do was sit around and argue it never got much further then that. She sighed again at the thought this time she would have to participate instead of just sitting on the side lines.

While she considered just exactly what she was going to say to the other counsel members and arrow whizzed right past her head. Startled she whipped her upper body back causing her horse to rear. in seconds she had her bow out and her guards had pulled their swords. Silently they waited for a sound.

Hearing a crack of a twig she let loose an arrow. She heard a soft thud before the sound of men charging rang in the clearing their battle cries raising every hair on the back of her neck. From every side of them humans appeared in their path. To her it looked like a small army.

Determination and fear set into her as she and her two guards charged. With in seconds chaos ensued. Magic and arrows were flying around madly as swords were being swung. Knocking another arrow she let it fly helping take down whoever was closing in on her two guards.

A startled yelp escaped her lips as she was pulled backward off her horse. She flung her arms around wildly hitting whomever was holding her causing them to drop her. the collision of the grown stunned her long enough to allow the men to hold her down. She began thrashing as she gathered the raw energy inside her preparing to speak the words that would unleash the spell when cold steal choked her words.

She froze feeling… Nothing she could feel nothing.

(>.> ….. sorry its so long … and im sorry if there are a few errors I had to rush ^-^;;;.)

(( Oh no worries! Long is good sometimes...and usually needed at the begining xD ))

Calis reached the edge of the forest where his clan brothers and sisters were playing just as the sun set. It had been a long, and pointless day. "I wish i never taught that woman how to ride" He grumbled silently to himself, before sitting beside the campfire, where Micha was.

Calis was loved among his clan. He had saved them several times in the past 30 years or so, from dangers each side of the war. He was one of the first half-elves born in his clan, and was taught much about equality that should exist, but doesn't. The half breeds were disrespected by both sides, because their parents chose to rebel against their kings and queens when army's were being deployed. The men that refused to fight and the women that refused to be taught magic and archery left their villages and moved to the forests, making homes in secret. Until eventually, the humans and elves that wanted to live in peace moved together, and formed a strong bond that would last until the present day.

Calis' father was a mercenary in his human kingdom, and his mother was once a well-respected magician in hers. Both of their genes had foiled together forming the perfect son. Calis was strong, and logical, like his father, but caring, and protective, like his mother. He had the perfect aim with his bow, and the lightest touch with his feet, but as of yet, his elven magic had not matured, so his mother was trying to teach him, with help from Tulgan and micha, the clans magicians.

"Oh, you finally made it back then?" Micha said, with a smile.

"You best be careful tonight M'lady, or my emotions might influence an 'unwanted' effect" He said, hinting that his sorcery could not be blamed if it was wrongly aimed.

"Now now...we don't want anything going wrong this time, if you don't mind." Tulgan said, as he took his place next to the young half-elves around the camp-fire. Tulgan was an elderly, human magician, that was once an advisor to his king, but when the wars started, he was banished by the King, for disobeying his orders. He chose to spend his evenings teaching the half-elves magic. And micha was his top student, so she was usually around during Calis' lessons.

Terror filled every fiber of her being she reached for the essence that had filled her, her entire life but felt nothing she pushed herself to the limits digging deeper but still nothing. fear pushed her into over drive and she returned to the physical world only to find that she was being carried away. Unsure how long she had been unaware of her physical body she begin thrashing causing the male holding her to curse and hold her tighter to his body.

“stop it!” he yelled down at her he squeezed harder and she yelped in pain. Once she stopped moving he eased his hold. She could only stare numbly at the human male that was carrying her bridal style. why hadn’t she been able to break from his hold? He was only human! It should have been easy and yet… a snapping of a finger to her right caught her attention and she turned her head to see what was causing the noise.

To her right was a large male with dark brown hear and dark brown eyes he had a scare on his left cheek. “well she seems to be functionally normally now, put her down she will walk from here on out”

“hey” she protested as she was set down roughly. The male that was once holding her now held her still as the male with the scare reached forward toward her. she made to back away only to be held in place as she head a clink. Surprised she looked down and could barely see the glimpse of metal around her neck. and connected to that little piece of metal was a chain.

Her eyes followed the chain to a hand then her eyes trailed up the arm to the face of the man with the scare. He made a quick jerking motion and her neck was pulled forward roughly causing her body to tip and in turn almost causing her to loose her balance.

Her hands flew to the metal around her neck fully taking in the seriousness of her situation. Her deep green eyes met hard brown.

“not so high and mighty now are you elf

For several hours Tulgan and Micha tried to get Calis to master his elementals, only for them to end in failure. Tulgan could tell Calis was getting frustrated. Of all the talents the boy had, why did Magic have to be the one he had trouble with?

"I'm sorry Tulgan. I'm just not with it today. I know i can do better than this..." Calis said, with a morbid look on his face. He was trying his best but nothing seemed to be working tonight. His aura was shot, and his emotions were filled with frustration.

"Don't fret my boy. You have a lifetime to master them. Not everybody is born with the ability. No matter what your heritage"

"But i don't understand. My mother was one of the best Magi-" Calis was cut off.

"But your Father was not! It does not matter my son. You will learn. Just be patient. And don't let your emotions rule you." Tulgan paused before standing to leave. "I think that will do for tonight. Get some rest."

Calis stayed seated as the embers began to cool, leaving just enough light to see a empathic look on Micha's face. She was younger than he was in Elven years, and yet she already knew a tonne more than most of the half-elves.

"I'm sorry for teasing you Calis. Maybe i can help? Wait by my hut at sunrise and we'll ride together." Micha requested. She had always teased Calis about something or other. But that is what best friends did. She cared for him dearly and she hated to see him frustrated. She was still young, but she often felt an attraction from Calis, and wondered what their destiny would be...

"I will. But i gave little Jimmy my word that he could come out with me tomorrow. You don't mind him joining us do you?" He responded, remembeing Jimmy's pleading eyes this morning, knowing he would be waiting eagerly by Calis' horse by sunrise tomorrow.

"Oh no. Not Jimmy? He's such a pest! But i guess i'd be a hypocrite if i said no. Ok Calis. I'll see you at sunrise." She said, kissing Calis on the cheek before heading to her own hut. Her long black hair waving as she walked.

((I'm assuming a messenger will reach the half-elves tomorrow sometime. Would you like to play him/her? It would seem fit for them to request the presence of some of the half-elves or something to see the king/Queen about the kidnapping, and i think it'd be better coming from you, as your the elf, and we live in the background, ignoring the wars))

The way he said elf made her recoil slightly before her natural nature kicked in and she straightened herself glaring it him. “what is this thing?” she asked indicating her collar. as if he didn’t even notice her he began to give out orders

“we’ll set up camp here for the night”

“hey did you here me? I’m talking to you” indignantly rang in her voice as she marched up to the man with the scare. He barely gave her a glance before yanking on her chain pulling her forward. “hey” she complained rubbing the spot on her neck she could no longer touch.

“you” he pointed to one of his men. “Fire wood. you” he pointed again “food. the rest of you set up camp.” He turned and began to walk causing her chain to tighten and pull forcing her to follow.

Scowling deeply she dug her feet into the grown the chain tightened and her body jerked but she dug her heals in deeper forcing her body to stay put. The male stopped to look back at her a deep scowl on his face. “I demand to know what this is” she said again pointing at her collar her voice taking an angry tone.

He walked toward her and grabbed the chain as close as he could to her collar. She looked up at him a determined look set on her face and her shoulders squared off. He pulled forward a little forcing her head to move downward. He then lifted it causing her face to tilt back up. Each motion caused her pain as she tried to fight every action.

“you demand nothing” he said cruelly and as if that was the only thing to be said he turned back around and pulled her toward a tree. She watched in silence as he tied the chain higher then she could reach but low enough that she could sit on the ground.

“this is were you will sleep”

((yay! Sorry if it seems im trying to lead im not i promise! I just get excited ahaha. I just thought u might like to play the elves xD ))

The following morning Calis awoke just before sunrise. He crept over to the waterbowl outside to watch his hands and face before picking up his bow and arrow and walking towards the horses stables. He had a dream that night that the Elves and Humans had finally agree'd to live in peace, and the half elves could walk among both of their kingdoms as free people. He smiled at the thought, as he walked towards Micha's tent, hoping that she would be awake soon.

"Calis! Calis! Im ready for our ride!" Exclaimed young Jimmy the half elf, carrying a small bow and arrow his father had calved in some wood. Jimmy looked no older than an 8 year old boy, but he was mature for his age. It didn't stop his curiousity however.

"Ah Jimmy! How did i know you'd be up?" Calis responded, picking Jimmy up on to his shoulders.

"I wasn't letting you leave me behind again Calis. I was so bored yesterday!" Jimmy replied, before hearing a ruffle in Micha's tent. Micha's head popped out shortly after, looking less presentable than the night before, which made Calis laugh.

"Oooh! Woud you two shut up? I said wait for me, not wake me! Go wait by the stables will you?" Micha requested, unimpressed by Jimmy's loud remarks, that had shaken her from her sleep. She wasn't usually groggy, but it wasn't the first time Jimmy had woken her up with his childishly loud tone.

"Sorry Micha." Calis said simply, before walking off to the stables, telling little Jimmy a story his father had told him about when the humans and elves were not enemies.

Eroan road swiftly threw the forest. His white horse breathing heavily from the hasty journey he had been assigned. In the early hours of the morning a messenger had been sent to the palace. It would seem the princess had never made it to the counsel meeting yesterday. Soon after a search part had been sent to find her.

What they had found frightened them all. Humans lay dead in a forest clearing about half way between what was to be her destination. Among them were the elves that had been assigned to protect her.

As soon as the news hit the kingdom that her body had not been found the king had sent him as well as several others to travel to the neighboring villages asking for their help and cooperation. What the king wanted was to send a dozen or so men in each direction a human camp was known to be, hoping to find his daughter still alive.

Nearing his destination he slowed his gallop into a fast trot as he made his way into the small village

As the sun began to rise in the Sky above Elgan woods, Jimmy and Calis waited by the stables. Calis had prepared both his and Micha's horse, showing Jimmy the correct way while he did. Just as Calis finished telling another tale he saw Micha in the distance, dressed in simple, yet pretty attire, and her long dark hair tied with beads at the back of her head.

Jimmy rode on the back of Calis' Horse, while Micha rode a separate horse of her own, which was black, with white feet, and an odd white patch on it's back end. They had only been out an hour when the messenger slowed as he saw them.

Calis saw that he was a pure elf, so he threw himself off of his horse and told Jimmy to take place behind a tree, just incase he wasn't just a messenger. Him and Micha both took out their bows, readily armed incase of trouble. The half-elves had been brought up to be suspicious of everything, and everyone they came across outside their forest. You could never be too careful during the wars.

"What business do you have here?" Micha said, with a stern voice.

"Step off your horse and speak, Elf," exclaimed Calis, pointing his bow right for the messengers chest.

Eroan slowed his trot to a slow walk and he entered the village. He knew that this settlement was a mix of human and elf and dealing with such beings could be quite… difficult. He fully stopped his horse once he noticed a few arrows were pointed in his direction.

Staying calm he made each movement he took as slow as possible as he climbed off his horse. He turned to face the two half elves with his hands far from his body where his own bow lay.
“I have not been sent here to cause trouble” he said calmly “if I may?” he asked only waiting a second or two before slowly reaching into his shirt and pulling out a scroll. He held it out to whomever might take it.

“my lord is requesting for help in finding his daughter… you see the humans have taken her… and we fear she might be used as a means of ‘negotiation’.” He but emphasis on the word negotiation hoping they would understand what he meant with out having to make him say it. it disgusted him really what she might be used for or what they might be doing to her at that moment. But he couldn’t think like that not right now he had to focused on the situation at hand.

"You should know our clans don't deal with the wars." Calis exclaimed, angered slightly by the attempt to get their help to fight against the humans.

"Calis! Wait..." Micha said, as she took in what the Elf messenger may have meant by negotiation. "It is not for us to say...we should take him to see Aisha, our clan mother.

Calis snarled as he realised it was the right thing to do. Of course, he felt for the princess that had been captured. The Humans could be very evil. And he had heard of the way they have been known to treat women in their history. But if the half-elves were sent to help the elves rescue her, he was worried that would defeat the object of them being 'neutral' beings, and lead the humans to attack them, as well as the Elves.

The clans wanted only peace. through the whole world. They did not want to join the wars, unless it was to finish them.

"Fine. Follow me. I'll take you to see Aisha. Could i ask though? Is the princess the heir?" He said, lifting Jimmy back onto his horse and riding beside the messenger, with Micha just behind.

Eroan nodded his head in thanks and climbed back up onto his horse and urged him forward “yes she is the heir.” He replied almost solemnly. “she is the only child my lord and lady have had. She was taken when she was on her way to a counsel meeting”

He shook his head his voice turning bitter “the counsel meeting was supposed to be about finding a treaty that the humans would accept to stop the war… now I fear the war will never end.”

"Did the humans know about the treaty? It seems pure stupidity to stop a possible peace..." Calis said, with confusion in his voice. The chances of a treaty made him positive. But the reasons for her kidnap seemed totally ignorant. He knew nothing of the current goings on in the wars. However he did know about common sense, and kidnapping the Elven heir was NOT common sense.

"Why would they want to stop an end to the war from happening?" Micha said, expressing the same confusion as Calis. All she could think about was the harm the Princess was going through.

"I fear, even if we did help..nothing good will come of this." She said, feeling negative about the outcome.

The 4 of them headed in to the village, which lead to a few upturned heads as they noticed the Elf ride in with his white horse. A half elf ran to the Clan leaders tent and motioned for them to come outside.

"My Lady Aisha and my Lord Tunis" Calis said, bowing to them in the traditional way, with Micha doing the same beside him, motioning for the messenger to follow. They both knew Micha and Calis well, having seen them grow up, but that did not mean they could act any different.

"A messenger from the Elf kingdom is here. He wishes for help to rescue their Princess, the heir" Calis spoke, allowing Eroan to show Aisha his face.

"Speak. my boy. We are all friends here..." Aisha replied, in a calm, yet empathic voice.

"We will help how we can. But we will remain neutral. We do not want to fight. We only wish to keep the peace where it is possible. You must understand that." She spoke honestly, as Calis had done before. Their clan was neutral, which meant they would help if they could, if only to keep the peace. But if there was a battle that would need a side to take. Then they would not have any part in it.

“yes the humans did know about it in fact there was supposed to be a messenger sent out today with a written treaty for the humans to decide upon but now…” he paused for a moment running his hand through his hair taking the time to gather his thoughts. “with the confusion no treaty was written so now there’s fear that there will never be peace among us.”

When they reached the clan leaders tent Eroan followed suit behind Calis and Micha waited patently then stepping forward half a step before he began speaking.

“thank you it was not our wish to fight with the humans we simply wish to know where she is being held and why. There is only one camp left to check. It is just east of here we have little hope they will have her. I only say this because there are no known mages at that particular camp however my lord wanted every camp checked.” He hoped he was conveying the need to check the human camps without seeming like he wanted to attack them. in all honesty he didn’t, that would destroy whatever peace there may have been. His hope was that if she was found it would be a silent recovery with no fatalities .

"Then i will appoint 4 of our half elves to help you" The clan leader said, as she pondered on those she would choose to help.

"Calis, you will go. You are the most human-looking half elf among us, so you can help to sneak the princess out" She said, knowing he would do as she asked. He was the most human like. His ears were not as pointed and his eyes were darker. He could pass off as a soldier with his figure. He bowed in front of Aisha and headed to his tent to change in to a suitable disguise before heading to the stables for his horse.

"Alexander, you will go. And use your skills in archery and combat to protect Calis on the inside." Alexander was one of the strongest half elves in the clan. He had been taught by his Mercenary father to fight and protect, and his mother had taught him archery and basic magic. He bowed to Aisha and released his sword from his sheath and pointed it to the sky.

"I promise to protect, and keep my clan brothers and sisters from harm. And i promise only to harm those who try to harm my brothers and sisters" Alexander said, speaking an oath. He only ever fought when it was necesary. It was just the way of the half elves. They prefered to use logic, sneakiness and negotation, rather than armed combat and blood-shed.

"Micha, you can go, use your magic to protect them and sense any barriers they have to the Princesses magic" Tulgan smiled at Micha when she was chosen. He knew she would be able to use her magic, even against a secret mage. She was much stronger than she appeared, and he had no doubt that she would be unsafe. Micha bowed and then headed to her tent for her scrolls and incantations, as well as her bow and arrow. She would take her horse with her.

"And finally. Tyros. You will go. Use your bow and arrow only if you must. But keep your brothers and sisters safe from harm and use your skills to heal any wounds that are caused. Especially those of the princess when she is found." Tyros was a physician in the clan, and he was one of the best Aisha had ever known. His father had also taught him archery, and how to ride a horse. He and Micha had been on rides together in the past, and they were good friends. Tyros bowed and headed to his tent for his kit, and bow, before heading to the stables with Micha for their horses.

(Oh my gosh no don’t worry about it and happy birthday!!!! =D )

Eroan bowed deeply to Aisha. “thank you I shall report at once to my lord and lady to report your generosity” turning he followed the way Calis had gone. He jogged to catch up to the half elf.

“hey” he called trying to catch his attention. “hey” he said finally catching up. “if you do find Azariah tell her ‘the raven flys at night’ she’s not likely to go willingly with anyone she doesn’t know but if you say that she should follow you willingly” not giving him a chance to respond he made his way over to retrieve his horse. Once on his horse he made a hasty retreat to deliver his message.

****************

She walked quietly among the human males. She had spent half of the night struggling to brake free of her constants and the other half contemplating what had happened to her. She no longer had her bow or her daggers. the essence within her, her magic, was gone and her strength… though she had never considered herself strong she had always been stronger then a human, it would seem that had abandoned her as well. She had only figured that one out when the men had come to retrieve her in the morning. She had swung a large stick hoping to nock him off his feet but instead she had been laughed at and then to add insult to injury she had gotten back handed.

So where did that leave her? she was powerless, no more human then they were.

After she had been hit she had come to accept that she was going to die. there was no question that she couldn’t over power them and they could do as they wished to her. the thought had scared her beyond reason. So she had stayed quiet not wanting to provoke any hostile behavior.

At the moment she was near exhaustion from lack of sleep. Though she held steady hoping the humans would soon take a beak for some food. Though she loathed to smell the food they would eat she desperately needed to rest. Her stomach grumbled loudly reminding her of other needs she hoped the humans would take into consideration. All she had been given for breakfast was water. She had had to watch as the group of men ate as her tummy had rumbled. Though she hadn’t protested she didn’t want to seem weak after all.

The men suddenly stopped and she almost bumped into the man that was currently holding her chain. She stopped and looked around seeing why they had stopped hoping that it was because they needed the rest. The man with the scare held up his hand for silence then made hand motions Azariah didn’t understand.

She mad and ‘eeping’ noise when she was suddenly shoved off to the side. everyone seemed to vanish as she was pulled into a thicket. She made to scream but a hand had been placed over her mouth and she was held still by two other men. In the distance she could hear hooves.
