Nassir watched the whole little process in hidden facination, wanting to poke the thing. "Pancake? What's a pancake?" he asked, watching her flip it over. As soon as the plate rested on the countertop, the pancake was half gone, the hungry Djinni snatching it, eager to eat as he was eager to find out what a pancake was. not bad, needed something, but not too bad. Nice and fluffy.

"If you like them, just say so," Glory commented as she started on another one. "I can always make more." She had enough batter in the current batch to make one more pancake, but she had enough mix to make more batter easily. Flipping the third pancake and putting the second on the plate, she poured the fourth and went to te refridgerator to get the syrup for them. "Try it with some of this. It's sweet."

Nassir looked up as she chided him, pancake half cone, the rest dangling from his mouth as he held it like a toy in his teeth. Watching his master, well, mistress to be exact, he blinked at the bottle of syrup she pulled out.
With a shrug, he drizzled the odd, honey textured substance onto the plate beside the so called pancake and dipped it, stuffing a triangle of the fluffy thing into his mouth. Huh, not bad, that actually was good! So the human knew what good tasted like at least.

Shoving the rest down, he inhaled his plate and waited, wondering if she;d have any leftovers.

Glory glanced at him as she finished making the other three pancakes. After a moment, she offered the plate to him.

"You can have these, if you like," she said. "I can always make more." He seemed different, somehow... A bit more at ease, even cheerful, almost. Pushing the thought aside, she reached for the box of pancake mix to make another batch. She was probably just imagining things. After all, he'd been surly and bitter ever since he'd appeared. Why would that change now?

Was it a trick? Nassir looked at her doubiously, but he couldn't resist the food offered to him. Mumbling a thanks, he began to pull the pancakes into pieces, shoving them in his mouth. and chewing contentedly. They were good, and it was nice to eat after being trapped for nearly 500 years since his last master.

Glory made herself another batch of pancakes, not thinking much of it. She had plenty of mix, after all. In the back of her mind, she ran through what she had to do that day. It was the weekend, so she didn't have any classes, but she knew she was running low on some of the things she needed around her apartment, so she would have to go shopping... She kept an eye on her breakfast, making sure it didn't burn.

Nassir finished his pancakes, watching her cook her own as he began to grow bored. So far, she had not asked him anything, and it surprised him. Didn't she have any desires? Not that he'd necesarrily listen if he didn't like them, but still, screwing with the humans was fun.

Despite his captivity, Nassir had a few choice times when he had fun. All of them came from the initial meeting shocks and from the insuriation and tempers he arose from previous owners when he did what any other djinni would: be clever.

For, unless the wish was highly specific, a trapped djinni could intepret a wish any way they wanted. Find a lovely maiden to bring to me so i can swoo her and make her my bride! That time, he had debated between many options. bringigna statue, bringing a lady lovely in personality, but average or plain in looks, or bring a maiden who's name meant lovely, and make her ugly, mean, ordinary, or anyhthing but the prince's idea. That prince was so furious when he brought back a old cripple who agreed to the joke.

Turning off the griddle, Glory put the finished pancakes on another plate and got herself out some silverware. Turning around, she jumped slightly when she found Nassir watching her. It was a bit unnerving, and she tried to push aside the thought that he was staring at her because of her looks. She was probably wrong, but the thought crossed her mind all the same.

"Why are you staring at me?" she asked as she went around him to sit down. On her way to the small table, she picked up the bottle of syrup and set it down next to her plate.

Brought out of his musings, Nassir shrugged, still staring intently, violet eyes unwavering. Odd girl. She picked up the syrup, something he was considering spooning into his mouth plain when she took it, and thus he wanted to see how she used it. Did she pour it everywhere? was she a dainty prissy eater like some? It was curioisuty driving him.

Finally, he asnwered her question, the thing bringing him out of his thoughts in the first place. "You're odd, this place isn't normal."

"Actually," Glory said as she poured some syrup onto her plate next to her pancakes, "this place is normal. Times have changed. I don't know what you remember, but everything about this is perfectly normal to me. What's not normal about it?" Cutting her pancakes witht he side of her fork, she dipped the pieces into the syrup. It wasn't quite the conventional way to do it, but she preferred her pancakes not get soggy.

"I remember busy, bustling market places, the bazzar, the old storytellers, elaborate palaces with alabaster, silk clothing, desert sands, fresh olives, dolmanthes, elephants on howdahs, shaikh's in their palaces, persian rugs, warmth, stone and clay houses."

He smiled, describing all of Arabia, from the Middle east to India, where his masters lived.

"This is madness! Why waste precious glass and metal on a house unless you are a royal..you aren't a royal..are you?"

"Of course I'm not," Glory said. "From what you say, that's all old-world history. And on the other side of the planet. Nowadays, every building is made of metal and glass, because humans have found ways to get large quantities of the stuff." She finished her pancakes quickly and set the dish in the sink. She would wash it later. "Silk is expensive and hard to take care of, so it's not all that common. Alabaster is beautiful, but it's rare. Nothing is made out of it anymore, not on such a huge scale. The kinds of things you remember don't really exist anymore, not in this part of the world." She paused. "Well, no, I'm sure I could find a way to get my hands on some fresh olives from somewhere, but I'm betting they would have to be imported from somewhere. Italy, maybe."

Nassir looked at her, stunned and in disbelief. "All glass and metal? What about wood? brick? mud? clay? stone? That's what common homes are made from. And where is Italy? And of cours they exist, I exist don't I?" Nassir followed her example, putting the dish in the sink. Watching it, he shrugged, noticing you still had to do work in this odd place. Seeing the fluffy couch, he made himself comfy.

"Old world history? Where are your royals? What rules have they changed?"

"In this part of the world, there ARE no royals," Glory said. "It's a democracy, not a monarchy." Picking up her laptop, she turned it on and waited for it to boot up. "There are some buildings made of brick, since it's durable, but a lot of times it's just for asthetic purposes. The inner structure is still made of wood and metal."

Once her computer booted up properly, she pulled up a world map. "We're somewhere around here," she said, pointing to a spot in the US. "Italy is here." she pointed to where Italy was outlined. "And I'm guessing the places you remember are in this general area." She circled the Middle East and parts of Asia with her finger. She looked at him. "What's the last year that you remember? Like the actual date."

Well this was weird, no royals?! Nassir stared at her in disbelief. "What do you mean 'no royals'? What is there beside monarchy? What is a democracy?"

Nassir shrugged, arms folded under his head as he rested his chin on his arms. "I pay no attention to trivial details of date, I do not know. It was 500 years since my last master." he murmured, quirking a brow at the map. The computer itself intrigued him. Poking the screen with a fingertip, he wondered what magic controlled this...thing.

"What is this? This...box?"

"Careful," Glory said when he poked at her laptop curiously. "I have no idea what kind of juju you use, and I have no idea if it'll short out my computer or something, and I don't have the money to replace it." Absently, she logged into her school inbox to check her mail. "This is called a computer. It's... complex, but the simplest way to describe it is like an intelligent book with access to almost all of the information on the network it's connected to."

"Network?" the djinni poked her computer again, despite her scoldings. "Wind. Wind and Ice." he murmured, watching the things come upon the screen in facination. How was she controlling it? What was she usung it for? Deciding to voice his questions, he prodded her shoulder, demanding to know with his eyes. "How are you doing that? What are you using it for?"

"This?" Glory asked as she looked up from her emails. "I'm reading messages that were sent to me, about my classes and such. A few messages from my friends that were too long to send to my phone, and I think there might be one or two newletters in there as well." She tapped her finger next to the touch pad, making sure not to touch it and mess with her windows. "I'm controlling the little arrow with this, and the buttons with letters on them let me write. The whole thing runs on electricity, which is fairly temperamental. It doesn't take much to short it out." She closed her inbox, and the screen went back to her desktop; a picture of a desert rose. "I guess it's easier for me to understand because I grew up with this kind of technology."

Watching in facination, Nassir looked at her with a quirk of a brow. "Is it magic?" he asked, not seeing gow such a thing could work wven with..what was it, electricity? "What is electricity? Describe it to something." Watching her computer as it responded to semingly random touches, he tried to pick it up and claim the item. "I wish to try."

"Electricity is like... Lightning," Glory said, trying to find the best comparison. "Weak lightning that runs through metal wires and other metal bits." She handed him the computer. "Just be careful with it, the outer casing is starting to wear out, and I don't have the money to get another computer just yet. The touch pad and keys are fairly sensitive, so you don't need to be rough with it."

"Lightning?!" Of course the djinni knew what that was. Dropping the object in her lap, he backed away, lighning his weakest and most difficult element to use. He sucked royally at it and burned himself every time. "Why is their lighning? I don't see or hear it.... weak lighning is in this, not true, you'd be shocked!" argued the male, poking the keys experimentally, pulling back immediately lest he get electrocuted. His speed being faster than a human eye can see, this was not a hard task.

"Everything is insulated," Glory replied, taking back her laptop calmly. "The copper wires are covered in rubber insulation, and the plastic is insulative as well, so none of the electricty reaches me." An IM window popped up, and she tapped on the keys rapidly, telling the other person (her older sister) that she was busy at the moment and couldn't talk. Then she clicked the window closed. "Sorry. My sister is being a pain, she keeps trying to set up a time to come and bother me so she can try to get me to agree to babysit her son in the afternoons."

This was frustrating. The djinni would learn something only to become more confused by the next item or concept. Looking around and growling, he tried to find what spirit was possessing her to believe another person was in the room. "I see no one else...you are delusional. Your sister is not here!" He poked Glory's forehead, looking somewhat...concerned? yeah, concerned, for her mental stability.

Glory looked at him oddly for a moment before she realized that he didn't know how long-distance comminucation worked nowadays.

"No," she said, "I know that. Cassidy is at her home with her family. We're able to talk over long distances through the computer. Because we both have a computer connected to the same network, we're able to communicate. I write something to her, and she can write something back in real-time." Hopefully, that was layman enough that she didn't confuse him more. She didn't quite know how to simplify it any further.

Nassir blinked, looking at the screen and scanning the page, seeing nothing. "You say you are sending messages and written notes back and forth? I see no paper coming from it, nor do I see anything written on your device! Are you playing me for a fool?" He scowled, arms folded over his chest.
