Do you have any rare pets? I'd like to own a skunk... challenging, and NOT as long as i live in my parents house <xD But I really am thinking off it... Do any of you out there have any rare or special pet, is it more challenging than the normal ones, or what is your opinion?

I think it would be cool to have one of those hybrid dogs, that are half wolf half dog, or one of those cat hybrids. Where it is like an leopard and an house cat, so it's like a mini leopard.

People think it's weird that I keep lizards and snakes. They also find it weird that I have naked dogs as well. I think nothing of it though. I want a serval once I can build a large enough outdoor run for it. I would just feel bad having one in a small space since they don't really tame down per say.

I don't have any unusual or rare pets, only a cat. ;D
But I have a friend who has two sugar gliders, a pet pig, and some opossums!

I really like sugar gliders, only they're really expensive and I don't have room for them where I'm living currently. :/

Some people find it gross/odd that I have rats as pets? I dunno if that is consider rare, though - since a lot of people have pet rats, lol.

I always wanted a skunk too ever since my dad told me that he used to have a pair of them. They are just too cute and I hear they make pretty good pets.

Oh and rats are probably one of the coolest animals to have as pets. People don't realize how smart and clean they actually are.

I don't know if it's rare or unusual, but my pet mouse was half gerbil.

Mice and gerbils can't cross breed or produce off spring together. O.o; I had a hairless mouse before and a hairless rat. I dunno if that counts? I also have naked dogs which I think aren't that weird but people do stop me and ask about them all the time. I suppose that counts too.

Really mice & gerbils can't mix? Hmmm... maybe it was just gerbil then, but i'm not sure those are legal here...

I had gerbils for several years. I didn't think they were that rare, but no one else seemed to know what they were. People kept thinking they were either hamsters or mice. o.o

I used to get the whole "you have a hamster" thing when I didn't with my gerbils too. XD I kind of miss having the little guys around. They used to squeak in a really high voice at each other at night and it was kind of cool watching them.

I have two Chinchillas. I wouldn't call them rare since you can get them at Petsmart, but a lot of people have never heard of them around here.

I wouldn't say they're rare by any stretch of the imagination, just slightly uncommon as house kept pets. I have a Caribbean hermit crab, 3 giant African land snails, and a African train millipede. Most people are surprised by all three species for various reasons.

Not right now but i've had a bass (the fish), bobcat, raccoon, wolf hybrid and an african grey (if you'd count that)
There not really rare but not really everyday pets.

I've owned several things. We had an iguana a long time ago. We had white tree frogs that we named Budwiser and Budlight. My sister owned Hissing Cockroaches at one time. There were the bearded dragons and the Geckos. Now we own two cats one is a Himalayan and the other is a calico. The Calico is mine and she's a freak. Schizo to the extreme. There's also two Dauchshunds living here. I've had rats before and I'm hoping to get a Ferret someday. My sister owns two cats that are descended from and Asian Leopard of some kind. They're adorable because they have the coloring of the leopard along with the spots.

I almost forgot about my roach colony. XD I wouldn't consider them "pets" per say though since they're feeders for my bearded dragons. But I have somewhere around 1500 of them.

@Sun: I am seriously jealous at the fact you have GALs. I always wanted them but they are illegal in the states.

someday I want a sokoke. if you looked it up, you'd get it. but the only thing i have is my weird beardy and my perma pup mini dachsi.

I had a chameleon once! I think that counts haha ;D

chameleons are so cool. But they are expensive, don't live long, and you can't hold them!
