I keep having this debate with my mom since I've wanted to shave my head bald since February. My point of view is that women can look equally beautiful with or without hair and that society as a whole needs to get over it. I also think that women should not have to conform to being feminine if they don't choose to be.

My mom on the other hand thinks it is "weird" or that you have to be crazy to do something like that which is why I settled for cutting my hair really short instead of bald even though I am tempted to just shave it off still.

So my question to the people here on Menewsha is do you think bald is beautiful on women or is it something that you view as being taboo and a bit too out there?

I'd guess that I don't care how other people treat their body, since it isn't my own, nor would I be paying for it.

But on a more personal level, I really wouldn't modify my body or hair that much, since I thought natural beauty was supposed to override it, and all of that crap.
That, and since I'd like a job at some point, society can get over female baldness whenever they want, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't happen before then... so eh.
And... family would disapprove. I'd know, I've trolled them with a decent photoshop of me with a bald head over email. |D

It looked terrible.

I agree that some people really should NOT do it. It's just like with anything else. Some people can pull it off and others can't. As for work, I wear a hat all day as part of the uniform anyway so I'm not too worried about that. Plus the fact that I would fight it if someone did say something because it would be okay for a man to do it and it is NOT a conservative hairstyle even for a man.

For me...I'm on your side. But, partially because I want to put in my side of it. Guys shouldn't have to be manly if we don't want to be. I, personally, have never owned a car and I don't even know what makes cars so appealing to people. However, I'm the first guy to go to for a cute outfit or hair styling. I can do makeup like a pro, I have long hair, thick eyelashes, I'm generally NOT GOING TO LEAVE MY HOUSE if I don't look PERFECT.

Society views me as taboo, and it doesn't help that I live in a podunk little town in the bible belt (and that my boyfriend is black and half my family is racist).

So, really, I'm all for expressing yourself freely and without inhibition. I mean, if it's what you want, regardless of what you're told, you should be able to do it. Give people who say otherwise a big F U. That's what I usually do...(and I refrain from buying tank tops with the bra built in, seeing as I'm totally flat chested and my nipples couldn't fit into even a TINY A-cup.)

...BUT YES. I think bald can be beautiful on women, just as long hair can be good on men. It's all really about the individual, and not letting your hair (or lack thereof) wear you, but you wear it.

I think it's fine if someone want to shave their head, female or male.
Whether it's for appearances, convenience, beliefs, whatever...I'm pretty neutral to it.
I mean, it's their hair!
If you don't suit baldness, oh well.
I mean, lots of people don't suit certain hairstyles (mullets xD)

My hair on the other hand....I lurves it c:
It's all long and natural.
I keep it this way because I like it.

So if someone likes their bald head, then so be it.
It's their head hair =P

Society see's female baldness as unusual in nature, something different....some don't like change. It's unknown to them, so they reject it. They may feel there's something wrong with the person because they're not they don't have "normal" hair. This can also apply to clothes, mannerisms, skin colour, and pretty much anything else you can think of. There's always going to be at least a handful of people who judge you on something they think just isn't right. LOL OPINIONS. They complicate things sometimes </3

I think its very pretty, and especilly those hairstyles that leaves some parts of your head bald, like on the sides, and then you have a tiny mohawk or something. It shows your profile very prettily, and can look very graceful when your neck shows that much too.. I think my mom would be upset too though if i shaved my head.

Some women look great with a shaved head, (Not completely bald though, that's weird on almost anyone, imo. :?)

But just the other week I saw this gorgeous girl walking down the street with a shaved head in the most adorable dress. :)

It is my firm belief that your body is yours to do with as you please.

However, as far as beauty is concerned, in my opinion, a bald female looks like a cancer patient, which I don't find to be attractive. All living things have beauty, but from a personal standpoint, I don't find bald females to be pretty at all.

I do happen to think short hair, even incredibly short hair, on a female is gorgeous.

I like bald in some women. It is like most hairstyles, as it depends on the girl. Amber Rose looked good bald. Natalie Portman did as well!

Exactly. I have a pretty long neck and a pretty face. I also love those half shaven hair styles.

I feel the same way too. I don't really believe in gender roles or a set way someone should look based on gender. My mom's all into the "you're a girl, you have to be girly" thing and it drives me nuts.

It would be really awesome if you shaved your head and then used face paints to put pretty things in place of your hair *_*

And what would your mom do if you DID shave? It's not like you can glue your hair back into place xD

As a side note, many black women I know are very nearly bald, because it's easier for them to wear wigs that way.

Funny that you say something about painting. XD I was thinking from a fashion stand point years ago when I first thought about shaving my head about how cool it would be to be able to do that. XD I think that's my overly artsy side talking there. Personally I love body paint and tattoos and all that stuff.

It would be a bit odd, and people may take a lot of time adjusting to it, but I completely agree with you. There's no doubt in my mind that someone with a bald head can be beautiful. Having hair doesn't always look good, anyway. (:

She looks awesome with a pretty much bald head. But seriously, some people can really pull it off, I couldn't, my face is too round. (I'd love to though) I think that if you can pull it off, BALD IS BEAUTIFUL :)

Aww, I didn't really like Jack, but I think that was more because of her attitude.

I also don't have the face for bald, or even pixie. I'd love a pixie haircut but... eh. I'm afraid I'd look too much like my brother, who nearly has Justin Bieber hair xD

Yeah I didn't like her much either, or Miranda, but some of Jack's quotes are legendary.
People with Justin Beiber hair crack me up though, there's this guy at school with one, except he's like 6'3", thickset and he's got stubble.

I wanted to choke Miranda xD

Garrus was my favorite in ME1, and even after his really disappointing romance options, he's still pretty much a badass.

And he has no hair! x)

If they can pull it off, I don't see why not.
I personally couldn't - I've been told I'd look bad with short hair, so..

Most women I see who are completely bald I generally assume they had cancer :-/ That's not to say they didn't look bad or good, just like they had cancer.
I think that if you want to be bald, be bald. Its only hair, it will grow back. I used to know this woman whom I thought was gorgeous and she had the shortest hair I've ever seen. Hair isn't what makes you beautiful or a woman.

I have to agree that a shaved head on a woman would probably make the majority of people instantly think "cancer victim". But it can look amazing on some people. Think of it this way, shaved/bald is a haircut the same as any other, and just like any other it needs to be right for your face/head shape/bone structure.

Sighourney Weaver looked good with a shaved head in Alien 3, Sinead O'Connor looked stunningly beautiful in this video

Shaving your head is pretty much the same as wearing a hat, you have to have the poise and confidence to pull it off with panache. Also it helps if your head's not a weird shape! :ninja: But, that's not something that you'll know until the hair's come off...oh, and if you don't have jug ears, Mackauley Culkin doesn't ever want to shave his head!

Hey! I had Justin Bieber hair and it was awesome. XD Granted that was before he was around. XD

I love short textured hair as well. I think that is sexy too. Although right now my hair "looks lesbian" as my girlfriend puts it. XD I still love it.

@Jellly: Yes, I think Sighourney Weaver and Sinead O'Connor both are/were beautiful bald too. Natilie Portman as well.

I saw a young woman at the grocery store whose head was shaved. And despite that, I thought she was very beautiful. :) My friend also shaved her head a while back to help support those with cancer, and she looked just as great as ever. I actually like girls with shaved heads. It never once struck me as ugly or weird. So I say go for it!

Bald is definitely beautiful. To me, hair is just an accessory and people can look just as good without any at all as they do with a lot. There are just so many women out there that look more feminine when bald because it really brings out bone structure and the neck.

Plus hey, it's more "cost effective" on groceries! Less hair products to buy ^_^

I'd say it's defo beautiful if it's done for charity~

But as a style...I'm sure with a hat it would be totes sexy. ;D

It even looks a but futuristic. And when you grow your hair back you could cut/shave patterns into it to make it unique :D
