Yeah, it doesn't really bother me, I just thought it was interesting how in English being called a geek isn't that offensive but in Japan it's a big deal.
そうか。サンダル先生はコッメントはないね。じゃ、先生は「も知ります」と言っても、ちょっと悪かったね。 でも、ちょっと面白かったと思う。
And I just realized that I don't know how to say would have...what I was trying to say was if your teacher said I know, that would have been a bit bad, right? Then again, it could be kind of funny...haha
Yup yup, gotcha :D It's kind of a pain trying to classify yourself as something, though, so I gave up and accepted myself as myself :D lol I think I'm being repetitive...oops!!

There are entire studies devoted to otaku and otaku culture, did you know? Several colleagues of mine are really interested in both the otaku culture and American/Japanese reactions to it. There's a really great article out recently, about fan activities, and the idea that "you are what you consume."
(Sorry that isn't in Japanese; my brain is rather off right now, while it can be.)

I remember many years ago, when the word first started getting around - that I was told not to use it, that it meant more of a 'creepy stalker' type of UNHEALTHY obsession with something and so didn't apply to what people were using it for.
Nowadays, it's mainly used to mean someone who is a big fan of something. Like if you collect items relating to what you're a fan of, or can sing all the words to the songs related to what you're a fan of. This is in iteself a kind of obsession - but in my opinion it's just OCD obsession. Most people who say they are Otaku these days aren't the kind who are actually physically going to hunt in trashcans outside the physical residence of their target to get soiled underwear or what have you, to add to their 'collection'. Most Otaku that I know have OTHER things that interest them in a regular day, as well as their main fandom.
I'm a bit of a nerd or geek, I'm as close to a shut-in as I can manage, and I have several subjects I obsess over to the point of expensive collections. Do I consider myself an Otaku?
..... not yet anyway. >.>'

Final Fantasy stuff - mainly from FFVII, and a lot of either Auron from FFX or Vincent from FFVII in particular. XD
Things HaruToki - that's 遥かなら時空の中で, in this case the jikuu is toki, because the main character gets called to a distant and probably parallel past. It's a neat historical fantasy.
I think those are my main two money sinks, although I'm frugal when I can be. There's a bunch of stuff I don't have that I want, simply because I can't justify the expense. I also cheat in how I acquire some of the digital things... But not often.
My fiancee is also a FFVII nut, so he doesn't mind that the bedroom is plastered in posters and wall hangings, and that one bookshelf is more like a Shrine with figurines and what not. I even put away a Sesshoumaru hanging for his Advent Children Cloud hanging. XD

Hmm, I've heard of Final Fantasy but I've never seen any of it. I keep meaning to, but it slips my mind. I haven't heard of HaruToki though.
Yeah, I know that feeling. I'm trying to save up for a car right now, so everything else is on hold. Which sucks, because I absolutely love movies and I'm dying to buy a few of them, but I have to keep telling myself "NO." T.T haha
That's good! Sounds like a good match to me, haha! XD

We'll sure try! I know a good half of our friends and family would be willing - as long as we don't force them to stick with FFVII as a theme. Some of the rest of the family.... well, they'll put up with the rest of us being silly because that's just how we are and if we're happy they're happy. But I don't think his grandma is going to dress up in anything other than Sunday Best. XD
We'll just tell the more conservative of the folks that it's a costume party. Which is sorta is... COStume. XD

My sister and my brother both were recently married, but sadly no cosplay, haha :D

It'll be a while. He has to get out of some serious bad credit left by his vicious ex-wife. He can't even get a regular bank account right now, she messed things up so bad. It hasn't been seven years yet - so a lot of that stuff is just going to sit there until it drops off the record.
If we're in Oregon when we decide to formally tie the knot, maybe we can do it in the Japanese gardens. Nothing like cross-geeking. ^_^
I'd like it to be a fall wedding, surrounded by beautiful trees. Or in case of inclement weather, in any nice building with a VEIW of nice trees. XD Or water. Tiki torches may be required.
I'd better stop thinking about it, or I'll have a whole scenerio built up in my head. It's pure fantasy right now, so...

o_o" You... um.. wow. Totally made this fangirl dokidoki XD
I love FFVII!! I'm currently storing pictures of Vincent on my phone for my fiance : D And instead of FFVII theme, well this wasn't thought about until recently, but I am considering wearing cosplay for Princess Garnet, who I know, is a newer character (not as new as they can get, seeing as she is from FFIX), but yeah, the wedding dress that she wears : D What do you think? I wanted her crown too.
..Lol but no .. Jez? I want pictures of your Oregon wedding with chocobos!! No joke! That is priceless to me : D I wish you luck X3 *squee*
Edit: You make me feel like both gaming and wedding planning at the same time. XD THANKS. lols

It's too bad the timing and location is off - or we could do a double Fantasy wedding together... man that would be epic. Yeah, the insane bubbly feeling when I think about planning this all out is just... insane! XD
I'm having trouble remembering Garnet's fancy dress... I'm sure you don't mean the yellow spandex regular 'ooh-soft' outfit. *google* Ahh, that's right. And it looks like a couple of people have done it for conventions, so there'll be a few more references to look at.
lol - this is funny FF paper doll dresses - Garnet's is at the top, but daaayaam, Ashe's is spiffy too, if a little revealing. I'd have to get back into shape before feeling brave enough to wear that. xD

I so know that feeling you are talking about. And that would be epic, haha. I already know my wedding location though, and it's not in Oregon. Lol if we were both getting married before the middle of December that would be workable. I think we'd be both shy and excited XD hahaha.
And yeah. Lol. Not the yellow spandex XB You found the right dress : D I actually found a different version of it that one of my friend's friends I think actually made for Kumoricon. Which, have you ever heard of that? It is an anime convention that once you move over here you will get to come to. It is usually in Portland ^_^
Ahhh *squeal* this is fun : D hehe. hmm. We both want trees :0 ... lol. xD I'm not going to have fire or alcohol though. It's not allowed in the park and we don't drink anyways, so you have fun with your pretty tiki torches ya? : D

Ah, I probably won't be allowed any fire on site. Most parks don't like that kind of hazard. But that doesn't mean I can't have them at the house for the party afterwards!

lol - not really. Just that this all started with a joke about chocobo bride and groom cake toppers. XD
It's funny how something you say as a 'wouldn't that be funny' can get serious? Probably the traditional almond, 'cause I like that. It won't be very big. In fact, it'll probably be pretty small, and then the guests will get themed cupcakes. XD

:0 no, never heard of it until now.
But I found myself their site (: to see the pictures of the shelves, scroll down on whichever one you choose ^_^
that is interesting kekekeee.... I know a friend who had a bookcase of manga and action figures, but I could never afford to do that. It might be fun some day in the future, but for now I'm worrying about my wedding, school, Japan, and a future kid ahah. Actually, on that note, I had a year and a half of Shojo beat that I gave all of them to my friend :0 so I could have more room lol xD Since I've read them all plenty and all.
Edit: Does anyone here have a shelf.. or, well, shelves like that? :0

Nope shelf for me. I used to be a complete pack rat, but now I try to downsize since I have to travel a lot from school to home, so I don't want to bring too much stuff with me.
When I was younger I collected everything though. Unfortunately, I collected potato bugs and they got out of their bag and multiplied. My sister wasn't happy about that one (we shared a room, lol). The other time they didn't get out...they died. I wasn't so conscious about, you know, food and air holes...haha :D

*glances behind chair, at the two bookshelves of manga and j-novels* Hm, nothing as impressive as what I saw in that link, but my little mess has certainly grown too big for the small plastic tubbie that I used to move it in when I got here. Figurines included in that one box. Now... Eh. I don't want to think about it. Unlike my regular fiction, I can't go down to the public library and nab the latest Hotaru no Hikari in Japanese.
Nevermind that I'm skimming more than 'reading', and my comprehension is fairly low.... I really enjoy reading new things.
