Seth was getting a new slave, finally. He was quite excited for this. He got up early and started getting ready. He put on his schenti and tunic, then his headdress. He then headed out, flanked, towards the slave market. He walked in quickly into the market and looked around. He paused when he got to a tall brown haired boy. "What is your name?" he asked, in their native language.
Everyone in the market stopped when they heard his voice. It was an honor to be directly spoken to by a royal. Seth kept his head high as he stared at the boy, waiting for an answer. The trader came over to him and tried talking to him. But, anyone that knew Seth knew that he wasn't going to say a word until he was answered. It wasn't arrogance, it was stubbornness.
His reddish brown eyes stared solidly. His guards didn't bother him as this all went on. Being an only child in a royal family, he got a lot of what he wanted, but he wasn't overly-arrogant, just amazingly stubborn. The whole slave market was quiet as they waited to see what would happen. That inwardly amused Seth. He didn't too much mind the attention.

"What is your name?"
The voice came to Jahi thickly, as though through a fog. The steady roar of sound that had been whirling around him petered to a strange, heavy silence, and he lifted his head, staring up at the figure who had addressed him with exhausted eyes.
Less than a week had passed since he'd been taken by the slavers, but he had already earned a beating or two and had lost several meals for his "insolence". His ribs were still aching from his most recent altercation.
It took him a moment to realize that the question had been directed at him. Jahi could tell by the boy's garb that he was someone very important, but he had never seen a member of the royal family with his own eyes before. More surprising still was the fact that the strong, demanding voice belonged to a boy so young.
He twisted his arms against the thick shackles binding his wrists, unaware that he'd made the movement, as he fixed his wearily resentful eyes on Seth. "Jahi," he replied as firmly as his hoarse throat would allow. His heart was fluttering fearfully in his chest he was determined not to let it show. He wasn't broken yet, and he didn't intend to be.

Seth's lips quirked into a smirk. "I am Seth Thutmose." That should have been enough to make him realize just who he was dealing with. He ran a hand absently through his hair, pushing it back. He turned to one of his guards and nodded. He wanted this boy. He'd break him.
The guard took the trader over and began sorting it all out. Seth rested a hand against the bars, amused. "You have a lot of, say, nerve for a slave," he noted. It amused and enthralled him. He liked strong personalities, and they were so hard to find, especially in his line. One of the few downfalls of being a royal.
He watched as the deal was made out of the corner of his eye, then went back to looking his soon-to-be slave over. He quite liked Jahi's eyes. He wasn't going to tell the boy that, yet. He'd wait until the boy proved his worth. If he didn't...well, he'd be back here before the week was out. "You have many bruises, have you been a bad boy?" His tone was purposely patronizing. He wanted to see how far he could push him until he snapped. And what the snap would be.

It took a moment for Seth's name to penetrate Jahi's mind, but when it did the slave found himself swimming in confusion. Seth Thutmose...the prince? But why was he here, what use could he possibly have for Jahi? Surely the slavers would tell him how useless and unskilled Jahi was...? After all, he had been a mere street rat most of his life until the slavers took him...
"You have a lot of, say, nerve for a slave."
Jahi raised his eyes to glare at the prince, fighting back the sudden heat and pressure of tears burning behind his eyes. He was so furious he could almost feel himself shaking.
I am not a slave, he wanted to shout back, but he was afraid his voice would break. This...this wasn't what he was...this place and these chains...and since he couldn't bring the words to his tongue, he kept his mouth clamped tightly shut and continued to glower silently.
"You have many bruises, have you been a bad boy?" The prince's tone made Jahi's face flush angrily. He wanted to ignore the needling remark, but knowing that the boy before him was the prince, he was afraid of what they would do if he didn't reply.
"I haven't done anything wrong," he replied finally, speaking through clenched teeth. His heart was fluttering in his chest as he glanced at the slaver's and Seth's men, finishing their deal. He still couldn't believe it was happening, that a member of the royal family was here, buying him.
