----------
Kell finished setting the last stool on the floor after mopping and walked over to prop open the door as to invite folks to stop there. The sun was just setting in the distance. She was hoping business would be good tonight and with the King’s army being summoned to the palace, she knew there would be a lot of people passing through needing drink and lodging for the night. Kell owned the Inn and the tavern. She always was open for travelers to stop and get food and rest, but she knew the tavern got all its business at night. She spent every afternoon after lunch cleaning and preparing for the nights business. Lately she had been looking for help to run her establishment but because the majority of the town folk were farmers they had little use for a tavern job. She always kept hoping that some traveler would decide to stay and help her, but she had almost given up on that dream. She was almost 28, single and not interested in any of the men in town. She had never really wanted to settle down when she was younger, she had wanted adventure. Now her desire for adventure was filled by the stories she heard from travelers in the bar, but they always moved on, having more adventures than she could ever dream. Kell sighed and picked up a clean towel off the stack she had washed in the stream behind her business earlier that day. She watched the door absently waiting for the first customer of the evening.

Kell moved from behind the counter to adjust the wicks on the lanterns and made sure they were full of oil for the night. She knew the sun would be setting soon and travellers and farmers would be coming in for their dinners and drinks. She hadnt asked anyone to provide entertainment for the evening, but she was sure someone would have an instrument. Someone always did.

"Hello," a voice called into the tavern. It was coming from a young woman named Miel. "I was wondering if you could use any help here?" She was an orphan who needed the job to help feed the others she lived with. She was the oldest of the group of orphans she lived with and needed this job for them to survive. There were a couple of younger boys who worked on the farms in the countryside, but working at the tavern could mean that she might be able to bring home some scraps of leftover food. She was later than she had meant to be due to one of the youngest becoming sick. Miel had to make sure that she would be alright for the evening. The orphans ranged in age from five years old to twenty-one, Miel. She had to get the girl to fall asleep and did so by telling her a story. These stories would be full of action and adventure, epic romance and fantasy tales. The orphans loved to listen to her talk, some of the younger orphans daydreamed over her stories. While she could spin great stories, Miel didn't believe them. She knew that she would most likely stay in the town her whole life and not marry the prince like her stories tended to tell.

Kell looked up from her work. She recognized the girl standing near the door but she didnt know the girls name, she had seen her around the town but never in her tavern. "Hello there. Can i help you?"
Kell set the bottle of lamp oil on the bar and wiped her hands off on her apron. "Well come in dear. Of course I could use some help, havent had any in a while really. Whats your name dear?"

"Its Miel, Ma'am," she said with a breath of relief. She had tried to find work in other places, but they were wary of the thin girl. She had gotten in trouble when she was younger, having been caught stealing. There were still scars on her back from the beating she had received as punishment. That had scared her enough to turn her life around and find honest work. There were still some people who didn't trust her though. She was hoping she could do well here.

"Miel... ALright dear follow me. I think we have just a bit of time before folks start streaming in." Kell began to move through the baqck door behind the bar to gather clothing for Miel to where when working. Kell had never liked the idea of ruining her personal clothes with mead or beef juice from the kitchens, she certainly wasnt going to allow someone else to do so. "What do you like to do dear? Cook, serve, clean? I could use someone in any of those areas really... Lets see, you are awful scrawny.... I think a small will do for the top, and we will give you a skirt with a decent length on it. No need to have men trying to catch a free show..." She handed the stack to Miel and started back towards the front of the Tavern.
"You can run up those stairs there and change in the first room if you like. That is my room. If I am ever not down here, I am up there, and you can find me if you need me for something, day or night ok?"
Kell was quite glad the girl had come in, she hadnt had a night to herself in several months and maybe once this girl was trained and confident, Kell could kick up and enjoy some of the stories told instead of running around catching pieces of them all. She waited for the girl to change and finished filling the oil lamps.

Miel took the clothes gratefully and ran into the room. She didn't own many clothes to begin with, so it was nice to get something to wear here. She took a quick glance at the room and then quickly changed. The clothes fit pretty well overall, they were a little lose in some spots. She folded her own clothes and placed them a table in the room. She would get them before she left. She pulled her dirty blond hair up into a messy bun to get it out of her face. Taking a look in a mirror, she figured that she looked alright and hurried back downstairs.
"I can serve or clean, if you'd like. Cooking isn't one of my strong suits, but I am stronger than I look," she told Kell. She had been refused some jobs in town that required some heavier lifting. She was confident that she would be able to carry trays of food or dishes around with a fair amount of ease.

Kell looked at Miel and approved of her in the clothing. She had picked out the correct sizes. Kell handed her the final touch, an apron. "You can keep what ever you like in the pockets, I use mine for the coin I get when they pay. Well, I would imagine you can serve the tables if you like, and I will run the bar up here. Let me take you back into the kitchen and show you we have in the way of grub." Kell went through a diiferent door this time that led back to a small darkly lit hot kitchen. The fires in the ovens had almost burned down so that the food would stop cooking but still stay warm. She lit the oil lamp on the wall by the door, and the one at the far end of the room. The room smelled delicious. "Alright Miel, this is the hardest part of the job. Remembering what we have, and what we are out of and how much each person gets. Tonight we have 3 kinds of stew: rabbit, beef and turtle. If they say they are hungry ask them which they would like, they get 1 bowl per copper piece than give you. Always make them pay for it up front. When we run out of one that is it." Kell walked over to a rack that was tucked into an out of the way corner. "Over here we have breads and pies. They get a hunk of bread the size of a fist with each bowl. For half a copper, they can get a pie. Today we have berry pie. Think you can remember all of that?" Kell smiled, she hoped this girl worked out. She could also see the girl wanted it to work out very badly.

Miel followed Kell into the kitchens, listening carefully. She wanted to make sure that she learned everything as quickly as she could. Her mouth actually started watering when the smells of the kitchen hit her. She took note of where everything was located and familiarized herself with the layout. "I think that I got it. There are three kinds of stew - rabbit, beef and turtle,- they cost a copper piece, there are breads and pie, bread comes with the soup, pie costs half a copper, and they must pay for everything up front," she summarized, checking things off her fingers. Miel had a good memory, it just might be difficult to remember when the tavern became full later on.

(Uh...I dunno if this is fantasy incorporated or just plain normal people in a tavern in the olden days rp, so due warning; mine has elements of fantasy. Just wanna get that out in hopes that, if no fantasy is allowed, I can be properly chastised and booted by the thread leader's whim. So...out with the ramble, in with the intro~!)
His stomach was growling, his feet were hurting, and Nyth's relentless berrating in his ear helped him none. He could not help but growl in annoyance when the accursed little demon-owl brought up that rather embrassing incident with the butcher and the oddly dressed boy blinking at him innocently with half a raw sausage sticking out of his mouth. This was not what the young man needed at the moment. What he needed was food, a bed, and possibly a woman. His black hair flittered as he adjusted his hood, drawing his cloak about him more securely as the owl flapped noiselessly beside him, chatting and babbling at him in a rather mirthful tone. The boy-going-on-man he was berrating was named Mimrial and was currently dressed in his travelling cloak, clasped at the collar by a rather worn, old looking seal bearing the symbol of an ancient and rather obscure cult. It was secured at the waist by sturdy looking belt sporting a rather nasty looking sheathed dagger. The cloaked traveller pinched his nose between his two earthen brown eyes, tainted only lightly in color by tiny rivulets of burning orange. He then continued to rub his face with his gloved hand, rather oblivious to the open door of an inn mere inches from where he stood, impatiently taking Nyth's scathing cryticism.

((OH, I totally should have included that in the intro to the RP haha oops.... There is TOTALLY FANTASY~! Any Fantasy you can think of~! Dragons, elves, witchery, sorcery, the undead... it doesnt matter. Those are the adventure stories Kell likes hearing about so much ^_^))
Kell smiled.. "Perfect... Now, have you had a bite to eat yet this evening? I dont want you running around here on an empty stomach and passing out in the middle of the dinner rush. Grab yourself a bowl of something and eat up if you need to. Im going to go get the first cask uncorcked and tapped."
Kell left the girl in the kitchen to eat, she was pleased with how well things were already going with her. Kell had noticed how Miel had eyed the food but didnt want to embarass the girl by saying anything.
She went behind the bar and grapped an old wooden toggle tap from under the counter and went over to the wall of casks behind the bar. She placed a bucket on the floor in front of the cask she wanted to use first. Many years of doing this had taught her exactly where to place the bucket. She grabbed the cork at the bottom of the end of the cask and pulled-- POP, and liquid poured into the bucket. She plugged it again with the wooden tap and set the cork under the counter. She picked up the bucket and carried it into the kitchen. There was enough for 2 mugs.
"Here Miel, you can wash your dinner down with some of this." She poured herself a bit and drank. The mildly cool liquid did its job, wetting the inside of her mouth and quenching her thirst.
((Also, the alcoholic drinks are just what people drink, just like in medieval times ^_^ Of course water from streams and such would probably be fine))

(Nice! Alrighty, let's get this show on the road!)
Mimriel groaned again, about ready to strangle his now silent companion. "...it would appear we have stumbled upon a place to stay.." the demon-bird cooed, moving to rooast and nestle upon Mimriel's cloaked shoulder. Mimriel blinked before turning his head, eyeing the open door of an inn, slight movement catching his eye as someone moved off to the back rooms. More than likely the kitchens. It was quaint from what he could see from his position outside, but the amount of seating most definately meant tavern. "Well, Nyth," he hissed, turning to glare at the nestled bird, who's own body would have appeared to shrink, as if to avoid causing its roost discomfort. "I guess we will continue our 'discussion' tomorrow." "Yes....so it appears," came the hiss, a deeper voice, growling in the young man's head. He hated Nyth sometimes. Dreaded little demon-owl. Wasn't even a demon-owl. Some sort of drake if he recalled correctly. Just preferred the form of an owl. Far more comfortable and maneuverable. The man snorted at Nyth's old excuse as he made his way inside, leaving the waning hours of dusk out in teh streets.

Kell heard footsteps on the wood floor out in the tavern and finished off her drink quickly. "Seems we have our first guest of the evening. I will take care of him while you finish up your dinner Miel." Kell smiled at the girl and stepped through the door.
She saw the man walking through the room and smiled at him. "Hello there sir. Would you like a table, or a seat here at the bar?" She smiled at him, hoping his money was good, and his company was better. He looked like he had been travelling, maybe he could spin a good tale while he visited.
"Cute bird you have there." Kell smiled again. She didnt want him to think pets would be unwelcomed at her inn.
"Care for anything to eat? We have rabbit, beef, and turtle stews tonight if you are interested?"

Mimriel rubbed his face again, looking about. It was only when his thoughts were interrupted by a young woman's voice did he remove his hand from his face, turning to eye her cautiously. "A simple corner table would be fine, ma'am," he said, smiling as she asked. When she commented on Nyth, the little bird puffed up and the demon-owls current roost could not help but snort and laugh. "Please don't flatter him. He'll become an ornery little terror and you'll regret it." This resulted in a mortified screech and a few attempts to peck out his eyes. Mimrian still laughed however, keeping the owl away from sensitive flesh with his hand. "And turtle soup would be fine, thank you."

Miel ate quickly, savoring the taste of the stew. It was delicious. After a few bites she took a drink and finished eating what she was given, which was more than she usually ate. She cleaned out the bowl and cup in the sink. She may have free loaded the meal, but she would at least clean up after herself. "Kell, I'm finished. Do you need me to do anything?" she asked coming out into the main area. She saw that there was a customer, but Kell had said that she would take care of him.

Kell pointed out a corner table that vacant and chuckled at the birds antics..." I see what you mean about the bird.... and I know we are a full house tonight, but will that table do?" She laughed at her joke. Since he was the only customer so far, he really had his pick of the 3 available corner tables, but she was offering him the one farthest from the open door and the one most out of the way prying eyes. "Miel, would you like to get this gentleman some turtle soup while I fill him a tankard? What would you have sir, ale, mead, or a fruit wine?" Kell was appraising him as she gathered his order, she was hoping he would stay the night, she needed the business and he deffinetly seemed to be a traveller.

"Yes, ma'am," Miel said, hurrying back to the kitchen. She filled a bowl and grabbed a hunk of the bread. She put the two of them on a tray and picked it up. It was a lot lighter than it looked and she was able to carry it with general ease. She made her way out to the table the customer was sitting at slowly, not wanting to spill anything. "Here you go," she said passing the food to him.

Mimrien grinned as Nyth huffed and flapped off, perching on the bar counter, his back to his technical partner in crime. "Ah, thank you. And fruit wine would be lovely," he said, making his way to the corner booth. When his food and drink came he could not help but stare at the young woman who had served him. "Thanks, hun," he said, reaching into his pocket to reachf or some sort of payment. He finally managed to produce a silver coin and made to hand it to her.

Kell walked behind the bar to pour the man a friut wine. As the bird came and landed on her bar, she turned to it. "And would you like something as well bird? Maybe some bread, and a bit of water?" Kell always kept boiled water on hand, it was safer than the stuff straight from the lake and she prided herself in knowing that she was the only person in the village who boiled large kettles of water every morning for her guests to use throughout the day.
Kell carried the fruit wine back to the table and set it down for the man. She had seen the coin he pulled out. "Now dont you hesitate so ask for more if you are still hungry after this bowl." She grinned.

Miel took the coin from the man, placing it in her apron. "No problem, sir. Just yell for me if you need anything, my name's Miel," she told him politely. She looked over at his bird when Kell mentioned it. Miel hadn't noticed it before. It was different from anything she had seen before. She hesitantly took a few steps to take a better look at it, not getting too close. She was a naturally curious girl, but she had learned some restraint and knew not to get too close to unknown things.

Nyth was still puffed up on the counter, his beak almost mimicking a pout. When the girl began to approach, he turned his head, using the natural ability of this body to spin it a full 180. He eyed her with large eyes, unsure of what she was planning, but certain she was not aware of his true nature. Mimrien smiled, not even bothering to give his own name. Name's held power. Especially among him and his peers. He watched as she cautiously eyed Nyth, amused at the demon-owls attempts at mimicking a natural owl.

Kell ducked back into the kitchen and brought out a second hunk of bread and set it close to the bird. When she saw him look around at Miel, she realized he was actually an owl. Kell had heard of them, but had never seen one. Well, he may not like the bread, but it would give him something to peck at. Kell looked out the door. The sun was setting and had almost gone behind the horizon. It was starting to get late and the tavern had not begun to fill up as she had hoped. She sighed, picking up a rag to wipe non-existant dust off the casks, the same dust she had wiped off every few hours for the last 3 days.... 3 very slow, quiet days. She stared absent mindedly off out the door, wondering where different peoples paths would take them this evening, and wishing she could go to the places they were. Like the man in the corner. Where had be come from, where was he going.... she imagined the stories he could tell...

Miel studied the bird for a few more minutes, unsure about what it was. "What are you?" she asked, more herself than anyone else. She somehow knew that it wasn't the owl that it appeared to be. There was something different about it and she couldn't put her finger on quite what it was. Her mind was racing with possibilities, mostly just her over active imagination she figured. Had she not just gotten the job at the tavern she might have asked, but she didn't want to appear nosy to the clientele or to Kell for that matter. She wanted to keep this job.

"Well, child, that would depend," Nyth hooted, tilting his head, blinking large round eyes. "What would you like me to be?" His voice was deep with an ancient, grating undertone. He turned his head back around when the bread and thudded before him, eyeing it absently before hopping over and began to peck away little chunks, leaving the girl with little more than what he had said, as if he had never spoken at all. And this amused Mimrien as a small chuckle escaped his throat.

Miel was shocked when he spoke. She had not been expecting that nor a response to her question. She had thought only she could hear herself talk. She had heard stories of talking creatures, but hadn't been entirely sure of their existence. "He spoke!" she said with a mix of astonishment and amusement. She was instantly embarrassed when she heard a chuckle from the back corner, causing her to turn towards it. "Sorry, I've never encountered a taking bird before," she said softly, her voice just barely making it across the room. She refocused her attention to the bird, trying to see what he truly was. Miel closed her eyes for a moment and cleared her mind. She then opened her eyes, looking at the bird and gave a small gasp.
