A waiter at a fancy Italian restaurant is promoted to assistant cook after finally earning his degree in Italian cuisine at school. While taking out the kitchen trash one night to the dumpster in the back alley, right after closing time, he notices an older teen sitting on the filthy ground near the dumpster in tattered clothes. He appears to be homeless, and starving. He takes pity on the boy.

Haru sighed heavily as he sat down on a bench. Today had been a very very long day and he wished to go home already but his stupid mentor was just throwing more things at him. He hated being an assistant. It was the cheep labor that no one wanted to do. He walked slowly over to the window just to feel the wind against his sweaty skin. He still had a boat load of work to do before he was going to be able to go home and he might as well start. He rolled up his sleeves and got to work on the dishes. With the help of another assistant they got the dishes done with in the hour.

He looked down at the floors and shook his head as he looked at the mess. He couldn't believe that they were able to make such a huge mess. He grabbed the dirty mop and bucket on wheels and then moved it so that he could get to work on it. It took him another half an hour to get it all cleaned up and the bucket cleaned out. He put it away and then went to the trash. He started to collect it so that he would be able to put it out on time so that he would be able to leave.

The alley where the dumpster was was usually quiet. There was a stray cat that wandered the alleys here, but it was nothing to worry about--it wasn't rabid, or nasty...it ate the trash around here.

Tonight, there was a young man sitting on the opposite side of the dumpster, with his head down on his knees. He was wearing tattered, dirty clothing, and smelled faintly of mud and rain. He had a few bruises, and looked like he'd been roughed up. This area wasn't well-known for its high population of homeless people...in fact, there were very few in this area. It was rare to see such a young person living all alone, out on the streets...

Haru felt the soft wind blow through his blonde strands of hair as he heaved a heavy bag of trash from the front hall into the trash. He slid his fingers around the second bag of stinky trash and heaved it up and into the dumpster. This was the job he hated the most. It was nasty and he just wished that one of the other guys had gotten the job instead of him. He almost jumped out of his shoes when he saw the boy sitting across the alley. It was strange to him since he'd never seen a boy his age sitting there unless he'd gotten attacked or something. Why did it always seem that he found the people who needed the most help.

He hesitated slightly then figured that it would be okay since he hadn't gotten attacked yet. He slowly bent down and softly put his hand on the boy's shoulder. "Are you okay?" he asked worriedly as he looked him over and checked to see if he was even breathing. That would just be stupid if he wasn't and then he would be in a world of trouble since he'd touched a dead body.

The boy jumped when a warm weight laid on his shoulder, head snapping up and pale golden eyes stared directly into Haru's eyes. He still had a slight boyish roundness to his face--it signaled that he probably wasn't over twenty-one. He appeared to be startled by how close Haru was, but he was frozen and couldn't move.

He had a few smudges on his face...and something that looked suspiciously like a big bruise around his left eye. He might have been roughed up in the course of the last three days.

Haru couldn't seem to stop himself. He signed out and then returned to the teen. He frowned a bit when he saw the black eye. "I apologize for being so forward." he said as he lifted him up bridal style then carried him to his house. It was only a few houses down. He got the key out of his left pocket with some skill since he didn't want to but him down. He opened the door slowly with his foot and then took off his shoes. "Lets get you into some new cloths." he told him as he sat him down on the bed then looked towards the bathroom. "I think a shower might be better first." he said then smiled down at him. He walked away and into the kitchen. He looked around and then found some oat meal. He made it and then brought it to him.

"But food might be even better." he said as he handed him the cooled oat meal and then sat down on the floor in front of him. He was used to sitting on his feet since he was raised by a very proper mother that ended up going crazy so at the end of her life was a little entertaining. He watched him hoping that he would be okay.

When he was picked up, the young man panicked at first, thrashing to get away and accidentally catching Haru in the arm a few times with his fist. When his strength to fight ran out, he relaxed, going limp in the elder man's arms. He was by no means light, though he seemed a bit undernourished. He was still while he was carried, but jumped to life once he was set down on a soft surface.

He quickly backed away from the edge of the bed, wary eyes watching Haru's every move. He was a bit filthy, and probably would benefit from a shower and fresh clothes...but at the moment, his eyes were fixed on the food brought out to him. He didn't take it. He was afraid he had done something to it.

"I promise that you don't need to worry about anything." he said as he moved away from him and then stood up. He walked over to the bathroom and then set up a warm bath. He went in his cloths and pulled out some things he thought might fit him. "Here. When your done eating you may shower then change into new cloths. You may use this room to sleep in. Just let me know if you need anything. I'll be in the living room." he told him with a slight bow before he exited the room. He frowned a bit as he sat in the living room. He couldn't stop his eyes from dripping cloths though. He was exhausted from work. His head dropped and he fell on his side. He knew he would wake up if he needed him.

The boy appeared to be very confused. He had just been taken in by a complete stranger, who had yet to tell him his name or ask for his. He must have sat there for a good five minutes before his hunger got the best of him, and he dug into the offered oatmeal. He was done in a matter of minutes, the feel of an empty belly being one of the most comforting feelings in the world.

Remembering the stranger's words, he slowly shuffled off into the bathroom to bathe. Being clean was probably the second best feeling in the world right now. Once he had finished, he quickly headed back out into the bedroom and slid on the offered clothing. The shirt was a bit big on him, but everything else fit snugly.

Once he was dressed, he collapsed on the soft bed, and was out in mere minutes. He would probably be in much better shape once he woke up.

In the morning he slowly awoke but refused to open his eyes after finding it was only five in the morning. He ground when it was six and he was still unable to sleep. He turned on his side and snuggled into the couch before he stood up and decided to get up. He walked into the room as he stopped. He didn't want to wake him up. He walked out of the room and then went into the kitchen. He decided to make a few things. He looked into the fridge and decided on some eggs and toast. Then an omelet and then maybe some bacon. He got out his pan and then started on the eggs.

The homeless boy did not wake up until Haru was nearly finished making his food. The smell of the food woke him up...his mouth was watering, and he was close to drooling all over his pillow.

He sat up slowly, shaking his head a few times, and then glanced around, deliriously. He was still very tired, and didn't quite remember all that had happened last night. So, naturally, he stayed where he was, slowly regaining his bearings. He didn't trust himself to stand up, yet, and had a feeling he would lose his balance.

Haru made the food that he'd planed on cooking and then set it out on a tray for the boy in his room. He knew that he would need to shower to get ready for work soon but he didn't want to leave the boy with no food so he decided to make a few sandwiches that he could have for lunch later. He wasn't sure what he liked so he made a few different kinds. Peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and banana, ham and cheese, and Italian style. He wrapped them all in plastic wrap and stuck it in fridge before bringing the breakfast to him. He walked in the room and then set the tray down on the night stand. "Here you go." he said as he smiled down at him. "I need to get ready for work so I hope you don't mind being here by yourself. I have some food in the fridge and some sandwiches." he said as he walked towards the bathroom and then stripped from his cloths. "Just let me know if you need anything else." he said as waved to him then returned to the bathroom to shower.

The boy shifted in bed, lowering his eyes to the food. He waited until Haru was gone to finally dig into it...it appeared that he would need more time to relax and get used to having someone care for him. He hadn't said a single word, yet...

Having gotten a good night's sleep, his eyes had less of a purple bagginess under them, and he seemed more alert. If possible, his cheeks looked a little less sallow. The way he wolfed down his food showed he was still very hungry, and would probably eat more than he normally would until he was well-nourished again. When he finished with the food Haru had brought him, he slowly swung his legs over the side of the bed, intending to get up.

He didn't. Instead, he sat there, brow furrowed, contemplating.

Shou stripped from his filthy cloths and turned the water on. While he waited for it to get warm he washed his face. When he felt the water and it was a comfortable temperature he stepped into the shower. He let the water wash over his body and hair. His body felt so good under the warm water. He leaned into the wall as he grabbed the soap and started to wash his body then his hair. He took his time in the shower since he had a few hours to get to work. After he finished washing he shaved and then stepped from the shower. He turned the water off before he wrapped himself in a towel. It felt nice to be clean. He dried himself and then he wrapped the towel around himself before he walked out and to the closet. He noticed that he didn't get the boy a drink and went to the kitchen. He got some orange juice in a big glass and brought it back. He put it on the trey then got in his closet and looked at what he was thinking of wearing today.

Without even thinking about it, the boy snatched up the glass and began to down the offered beverage. He had been just as thirsty, if not more so, than he had been hungry. Naturally, the juice was gone in a matter of seconds, with the chink of the glass being set on the nightstand the only thing breaking the silence between the two males.

The still-nameless young man stayed put, though he seemed like he wanted to get up. He laid his feet flat on the floor.

Shou whimpered softly when he stepped on a hanger. He sighed as put on some pants being careful of the blood slipping from his foot. He hated blood. He didn't mind if it was some others but when it came to his own he always got a little dizzy. He whimpered as he took a shirt and walked out. He noticed that it was all gone and grabbed the cup and then went to the bathroom. He filled it up and brought it back to him with the first aid kit. He gave him the water as he sat down on the floor away from him so he didn't get scared or anything. That's when he noticed that his feet were on the ground. "Do you need to use the restroom or want to move around?" he asked as he got a band aid and cleaned out the cut first then stuck it on. He held his head slightly as he threw it out.

The boy once again down the drink quickly, like he was dying of thirst. When he finished, he cleared his throat, softly, and then his eyes dropped to his feet. He licked his lips a few times before speaking.

"I should leave," was all he said. He had a surprisingly deep voice for his size. He lifted his honey-colored eyes to stare at his helper. Guilt was clear in them. He had nothing to offer Haru in return for his kindness, and he felt bad. Therefore, he felt he should leave.

He kept his feet flat on the floor, though he didn't make a move to get up. Where could he possibly go? He had no home, no family...no nothing.

Shou smiled up at him as he stood up, making sure to be careful of his throbbing wound, then walked over to him. He slightly ruffled his hair. "Oh please. Stay as long as you want." he said as he took the cup then filled it before holding it out to him. "I"m very glad to help you. As you can tell I live a very lonely life and wouldn't mind if you staid here to keep me company." he told him as he moved up and away from him. He didn't want to make him uncomfortable. He knew that he had to be scared because of what had happened to him before he was found. He was quiet worried about him.
