Ok, lets start from the beginning.

About a year and a half ago my husband was rushed to the ER for sharp pain in his back and barely being able to move. He was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc. A couple of months later he was finally able to start physical therapy {the wait was so long because military insurance loves to drag their feet} After 6 weeks of physical therapy he was still in a huge amount of pain so they decided to add on 4 more weeks of physical therapy to see if a different therapy regime would be of any help, month or so later he was finally able to start the next round of physical therapy. Needless to say, the physical therapy didn't help at all. Back to the doctor we went, they decided this time they were going to try and do the spinal injections. Once again we played the waiting game with our insurance provider. Finally we were able to get him in for his shots, unfortunately those weren't of any help either. It was finally decided shortly after that that they were just going to do surgery on his spine - after 4 months of waiting he finally has a surgery date. This Sunday we head over to San Antonio to check him in and get him ready to meet his anesthesiologist on Monday at 7am to do his pre-op stuff for his surgery on Tuesday.

Needless to say I'm scared and worried for him I'm about at my wits end with stressing over it and getting my house sanitized for when he gets home. I'd do it while he was in the hospital but where he is having surgery is 4 hours away from here.

I'm doing the best I can to hold myself together but I'm slowly falling apart....

{I know the timeline doesn't really add up all that well, we were waiting for a long time and I lost track of how long in between the waits were}

oh sweetheart. *hugs* There really is no good advice for situations like this, at least nothing I that can help with. Just know that here on Mene, we're a family, and we stick together. I hope things end up well for you.

I'm glad he has coverage!

I hate the myth that anyone with a job (or a parent with a job) is covered. My housemate is having some bad pains and the doc thinks it's his gall bladder. He can't get anything done outside of the student health center though since he has no health insurance; his mother can't afford to cover him even though she has a job. So no x-rays or anything that would remotely confirm a diagnosis.

So even though the company has been dragging their feet, I'm glad for you that your husband is at least getting the help he needs. You are both very fortunate. :)

It's always good to know that there's people who care *hugs*

Oh goodness I don't know what we'd do if he wasn't in the military, we wouldn't be able to afford it even if we had insurance.

I shall keep this thread updated with how his surgery goes on tuesday .

Aw, I'm sorry peppermint. That sounds really hard on your, emotionally. My mom went through the same thing when 3 of her discs slipped in her back. I think he will need a lot of rest and support, but he will recover. ^^ Just pray and comfort him.

All I can tell you is think positive thoughts. Try not to let yourself imagine the worst (yes, I know it's hard, but at least you can try) and busy yourself preparing for his return. I'll be thinking warm and healing thoughts for both of you, so just hang in there, and believe that everything will turn out okay.

Thanks darlin's

I'm trying my best to stay positive but I've always been a worry wart and my brain automatically thinks the worst.

We went and picked up my new military ID today so that I can come and go from base as I please while he's in the hospital. My grandmother will be meeting us in San Antonio on monday so that I have someone there to keep me somewhat stable. Then my dad will be in later in the week or the next to check and see how he's doing. His mother is unable to get the time off and the rest of his family live in other states so unfortunately they are not able to come.

His surgery went well. While he is still in a lot of pain he's doing a lot better than he did right after his surgery. Up until today he was on a strictly liquid diet so his turkey and gravy for dinner was much welcomed.
We are still currently at the hospital but we should be going home in a few days.
