Yeah, I was quite amazed when I first noticed their withdrawn stock. Even today I am still in awe as to why they are freely available. Some of these books are really, really interesting. That they are predominantly non-fiction is icing on the cake for me. As I prefer that. You will need to link me your account so I can friend request you.

Historiography is a major part of my Master's degree in History. It involves reading through many, many different accounts that concern the same era, written by different people during different time periods. I just finished a short study of the historiography of the English Revolution - It's amazing how attitudes change as even just a little time passes. History goes through fads where certain subjects become popular and then fall out of style again, so you can see various cycles pop up in historical texts every century or so.

I had not actually heard of historiography before. Although this is not really surprising I don't really read history books. It does sound interesting though as the production of knowledge has some appeal to me. Would this also include movements from previously colonized peoples who are challenging the histories written about them?

@Crimson-I'm probably just going to use it find books without adding friends.More as a personal list of all the books I've read, then as a way of finding others that I haven't.It's going to take me a while to find them all!I already have thirty-tree and I just joined!

I've kind of stalled reading Fragile Things. Over the weekend I was revising for a Chemistry test yesterday so I hopefully I might get back into it soon.
I have a Goodreads account but it's just sort of sitting there gathering dust. I'm not clever enough to review or suggest books so it was just like another list with pictures.

Haha I like adding people as I get curious about what they are doing. Although that is of course understandable. I do also like using it as a tracking/organizing feature. I am aiming to only use books which I actually own.

I am not sure about that. I have done some 'reviews' and you can hardly be worse than me. :XP
Just finished another book, proved to be a let down. Although had some chuckles, included this fail. I am not sure if it a failed attempt at being subtle or simply transition fail.

Papillon: I've read both of the books you mentioned. I looked into reading Gaiman's own books after reading Good Omens. I like his style, sometimes it reminds me of fairy tales (not entirely sure I'm phrasing my points very well, oh dear). Sandman is an excellent comic book series as well. =)

@Kat-Maybe you're talking about the unreality of his novels and how the he can make the strangest things seem believable?I know that's what I like the most about his writing style.
@Tayio-Maybe you could try hairstyle 24?It seems like it might work.

I think that is one of the more usual uses of the site. Indeed approximately 100% of the people I have specifically spoken to about this topic, describe using it in that manner. Granted my sample size is limited exclusively to you. ;) In other news, I managed to acquire eight more books to my collection yesterday. ^0^

Hey guys! This is me not doing any homework. I feel so rebellious! But I'm way too tired to care.
Anyway, how are people's books going? I managed to knock 170-ish pages out of The Kite Runner today, so that was good! And I've got to finish Hardball by like, tomorrow, as I've got to write a four page paper about it by Friday. But the good news is, school work should die down once this week ends, and I'll have some time for pleasure reading.

I actually liked The Kite Runner when I had to read it for my level one English class in grade eleven or twelve. It didn't take long for me to be ahead of the rest of the class and be the only one answering all the questions!

I love it so far!!! Khaled Hosseini is such a great writer. I remember reading A Thousand Splendid Suns a few years ago and loving that as well. I'm pretty far ahead with it myself, I'm on page 230-something and we were supposed to read up to 90 tonight. :P But a lot of people are reading ahead, it's not just me. Someone in my class said something about how with other required reading, it's like, "Uuuugh, ten more pages until I'm done with tonight's assignment...", but with The Kite Runner you just happen to notice the page you're on after a while, and realize you're way far ahead of that night's assigned reading. And still you don't want to put it down! Tons of people, including myself, agreed with him.
How long ago did you read it, Papillon? :)

I've heard such great things about Hosseini, but just never had the opportunity to read his work yet. I'll definitely keep an eye out for copies of his books in the future.
He's just one of those authors that you know you should pick up, but something more exciting always seems to be staring at you and begging to be read.

@ Papillion: The random switching in class I was talking about was how I swap between German and English when I'm speaking. And sometimes even when I'm typing.
