Maitin sighed as he walked down the street of a crowded city. He was following the power tracer he'd developed. He walked until he saw a slightly crowded pub. He loathed pubs, full of drunk gambling fools and cheap easy women. He entered and sat at a table in the back. He observed the scene, wondering who it could be that was powerful enough to set off his detecter.

He stuck out among the other patrons. His clothing was plain enough--a dark, dusty, concealing coat that showed no skin and too-big combat boots. He was sitting at one of the tables, all the way in the back but on the opposite side of the room. He appeared to be fiddling with some kind of strange machine, and a lot of parts were setting beside it. He stuck out because he was young...very young. Certainly not old enough to drink in this pub...

He had flat-colored, messy black hair and pale golden eyes, which were fixed on the work he was doing. His skin was white as snow, like he didn't spend much time outside.

Mailin looked around and the boy on the other side of the room caught his eye. How young was he? Certainly too young to be here. He stood slowly and walked towards him. "Young man, I'm curious. What're you doing here?"

"Visiting a friend," was all he said, simply. He leaned away from the other male, seeming a little unnerved by him. In this day and age, every single stranger could be one of that evil demon's soldiers, or one of his spies. Everyone was paranoid...pubs, after all, were places were the scum of the earth typically hung out.

Mailin smiled. He sorta liked how he acted. He stuck out his hand and gave a friendly smile. "I'm Mailin." He wasn't sure if everyone had heard of him, or even gotten his name right.

"My name is Wyatt. I do not shake hands," he greeted, peering up at Maitin with those curiously colored eyes of his. ...Humans didn't typically have that eye color...was it possible that he was a demon? He didn't look like one, other than the color of his eyes...maybe a half-breed?

Half-breeds were not typically well-received by either species--humans or demons.

Mailin's smile slipped a little, his hand dropping to his side. "Alright." He'd caught the color of his eyes and it stuck him as odd. He looked at the boy for a moment, then smiled once again. "I'm on a quest of sorts. Would you like to hear why?"

"Sure. You may sit, if you want. Just...kindly don't disturb my work." Wyatt continued tinkering with that strange mechanical device in his hands. He seemed to be very...mechanically gifted.

Mailin sat and thought for a moment. This was odd...and very awkward. How was he going to explain these things to this boy? He seemed very withdrawn and everything he said would be awkward.

Wyatt glanced at the other every now and then with curious, searching eyes. He had a gaze that almost seemed like it could look right through a person. No...something about him was off...distinctly inhuman...

Mailin looked at the boy after awhile. "I'm sorry. I don't want to be rude, but there is something off about you. Its bugging me because I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is."

"Are my eyes not enough of a clue?" Wyatt asked simply, fixing his new companion with a flat, but mildly curious stare. "These eyes are not a human color..." His voice was soft...perhaps so other patrons would not hear him?

Mailin nodded slightly. "I knew that much...I just can't place them." He stared up at the boy, seriously curious to find out what he was.

Wyatt dropped his eyes from Mailin's, unable to hold them anymore. "I am half-human, and half...demon," he admitted, quietly. "To be specific, I'm half-Changeling." Changelings were fairy-like demons..benevolent demons with strange, oftentimes uncontrollable powers.

He was preparing for the onslaught of insults he was used to receiving from other people.

Mailin blinked for a moment, then peered at him. Almost like he was studying something. Then he smiled and nodded. "Alright. That satisfies my curiousity."

Wyatt lifted his eyes again. This time, the blank sort of mask on his face appeared to have...melted away. "...You aren't going to toss a bunch of racial slurs at me?" he asked, puzzled. But then he shook his head and returned his attention to his work. "Are you going to tell me what this quest of yours is all about?"

Mailin blinked at him. "Why would I? That'd be terribly rude." Then he thought for a moment. "I have been searching for powerful people to help me....defeat the overlord of this realm." He braced for the snide remarks and mocking words. Everyone he'd talked to so far had done that to him.

Wyatt made a 'hmph' sort of sound in the back of his throat. "You are going to need specifically powerful people if you want to defeat him. Blake may look young and a tad bit harmless...but he is very old, and very malevolent."

Blake was the name of that terribly powerful demon who controlled and demanded respect from most of the full-fledged demons in the world. He was powerful...not much was commonly known about him. Wyatt seemed to know a lot, though...why?

Mailin said nothing for a moment, then eyed the boy. "I'm curious. How do you know so much?" He himself only knew as much as he did because he let him go in the first place.

"My mother was a demon. My father was human. My mother highly respected Blake...she was also a skilled fighter. So, I, being a minor, was dragged along with her while she fought. Blake took an interest in my uncanny ability to fix and create things out of metal and spare parts. I got to know him that way," Wyatt hummed, focused on his work.

Mailin frowned slightly. What did he mean 'got to know him'? He couldn't have someone that liked the guy help him kill the bastard.

"...Not to say I liked what I found out," Wyatt continued, after a long moment of silence. "He is a selfish, inconsiderate bastard, but loyal to good friends. He has good qualities as well as bad qualities. Unlike most half-breeds, I would rather not have him killed. Simply sealed off, in another dimension. There are...several dimensions where he would be welcomed and appreciated...it's simply a matter of finding someone who can dimension-hop..."

He paused, thinking he'd said too much, and lowered his eyes again.

Mailin's eyes lit up with his words. "Exactly!" He said with enthusiasim. "I took him out, I'll have to put him back in."
