I have a question, though. Are we able to use multiple shades of the color? Like how purple is one of the colors, are we able to use a dark purple and a light purple? Or do we need to choose just one shade of each color?

Yes, you can use different shades of the colors.

I'm going to say that the eyes and hair can be any color. It's nice if they match, but they don't have to.

It's alright. Are you trying to use a direct link of the image from the DAC? If you are you're going to have to save the avatar then upload it to tinypic, img shack, or imgur.
