You can also try to suggest that maybe you'd like to learn the rules of the road better.
My very first lesson was the ONLY thing my brother did right:
He took me for a drive, with himself behind the wheel and did a slow and steady demonstration of a bunch of things for me, including some light conversation about some of the laws and stuff in our state regarding things like K-turns and parallel parking.
I then sat behind the wheel (with the car in park) for a little while making adjustments til i was comfortable, resting my hands on the wheel with the window open...
I suffer from critically bad anxiety and to be honest, my big problem with driving is that I CANNOT merge into traffic.
I try to merge and all my anxiety goes OMGOMGOMG DONT DO THAT U GONNA GET HIT!


One thing that has helped?
Continuing to put myself behind the wheel, not necessarily practice merging, but simply getting better used to the feel of the car helps.

Unfortunately I now don't have a car anymore of my own to practice in. My brother gave my car to my sister. >_>

Several times, they don't take it into account. I've also told then that I do not feel safe nor do I want to be responsible for other people's lives.
I know all of the necessary rules to drive. In Australia we have to complete a test before being able to get our learners licence. Then if the driving instructor feels that we miss out any while they are taking us around they will just call us out on it. I don't feel that's an issue.
Merging is they *beeping* worst. I feel that I cannot see everything and that theres going to be a car that magically appears out of no where. This is going to sound gross but whenever I drive because I get nervous I sweat a lot from my hands and because merging and changing lanes is probably the most terrifying thing to do I have goddam Niagara falls coming out of my hands.

I just don't know..
