I personally would get use to everything as long as it does not 'hurt' at the beginning. Like my favourite colour is blue, but the site colour is yellow, I am fine since it is not the colour green I hate. As long as it is not in my hate list, I would get use to a lot of things and RELUCTANT to change it. Visual and design wise.

Feature wise... hmm... I prefer more to forum building instead of those fancy codes. As far as I can remember, even those days when the event is lavish and stylish, I don't feel like it is code extensive too. PLease refresh my memory. I only remember riddle, hunt for the mascot to claim EI, click on certain NPC to get tokens....
Definitely good, but not necessary what is keeping me.

Hummymy~ I am too picky... I don't post in all threads. XD

I think we really just need to bring up the activity of the forums and find more ways to make the site more welcoming. Our biggest problem as I've heard from new members is that we're too close of a community that the newer users feel intrusive.

I think really we just need to just drag all the friends on here... XD

Like for instance a new hairstyle.. or new layouts or colours, banners or links. I think part of what is keeping Menewsha at a stand still is that everything seems much the same. From when I started here in 2009, until now, the banner, main links and background of the website are completely the same. It's strange for me to comment on the fact since I'm more the type of person that doesn't like change when I feel it's unnecessary. However, I think some visual things need to progress in order to keep the users 'visually intrigued'.

I'm not talking about money or costly things either, even though it could be linked. This thought is a product of how I feel about Menewsha's events. 2009, 2010 events were coded (yes, I know, money and labour, but I'm not saying everything about it is necessary) and I found myself more excited to explore the event forum and keep coming back to the website day after day for the event. Yet now, the events don't have much pull on me to get me spending longer than a few minutes to check the event and click on the 'Chance' feature. And so I think that is one factor worth thinking about.

Does anyone else think that the visuals effect your interest in coming back to the website often?

Also, I'm interested in knowing what you all feel has been changed over the last couple of years, website-appearance and new feature - wise.

ya know now that you mention it,
visuals do appeal to me.
i had a firefox glitch the other day
and it made my background blue instead of white.
i rather enjoyed it and posted quite a lot just to see it.
maybe a shake up of the headliner and such would help people post more.
i'm not sure what all the costs would be and i do know they are needing funds now.
but it couldn't hurt to suggest it, could it?

that's what i was hoping would come out of this topic.
thank you so much, luna, i think that is a valid point that should be addressed.

Thank you hummy, I am glad that I made some sense to you! I understand why the glitch made you more interested to post. Another thing similar to that that happened to me was a while ago, I used to use my Windows laptop up until a year ago, but a few years ago I borrowed a mac laptop and posted using it. For some reason, the automatic font that we use was slightly different and in my eyes more appealing to type with - and so, you guessed it - I typed more! Meaning I posted a lot more and was more engaged in conversation and games during the time that I used that borrowed laptop. Now a year has passed using my own Macbook, I don't notice the font quite so much and it is less of a pleasure to type with. What I'm trying to say is that new, unfamiliar things can be fun and make you want to keep using it, and things that you've used for a long time can become more boring.

I do like the headliner and such, but I remember Celes Paradi 2009, Phoenix Nights 2010 being the most exciting times because the background was a different colour and the posts in threads had a different outline. It may sound silly but I think that made a real difference to my overall impression of the site and my activity.

An idea that may be possible and cost nothing (I would think) but would take some labour (hopefully not too much trouble) would be to just change the gradient background and block header background (the background for the My Account, Avatar, Mail etc. links) to another colour every so often. It could be each week, each month, or even coincide with a new Contribution item. This might be more pleasing if Menewsha had a set 3, 4 or 5 colours as it's 'theme' and each week or month it could change to the next theme colour.

Running with the Contribution Item idea, I think it may be good 'advertising' for the CI or a Link to the CI's name(s) to be featured on the website header or on the side all the time. Maybe I should create a 'prototype' image to demonstrate.. but do you know what I am meaning for this? Is it something you think would be a good idea?
Hopefully a clearer link or sign (other than the homepage image, which you wouldn't usually go back to the home-page to see, or you might easily miss) would bring up sales of CI's which we desperately need to keep funds coming in for the site.

(EDIT:You may be able to tell that my idea juices are flowing at the moment. I should really get my thoughts sorted and pitch some things to the people in charge if anything I'm saying is worth exploring.)

Something to make mene more active...hmm. Maybe what could happen are a few more games ^,^ I know it would be difficult to make more games but take it from someone that's just joined mene, I've played all the games and they are starting to get slightly boring. Like I love the current games but maybe some new games would help? Anyone else up for new games?

Absolutely, I'm not saying the visuals are the only thing keeping us, but it can be a factor in our attention or interest in visiting more often or staying on the site longer.

I think if we had to work around what colours people hated, then we'd get nowhere. Some people may hate blue and white and Menewsha is full of it!

I agree with not doing a massive overhaul meaning it would be hard for all current users to 'adjust', I think slight changes and progression is what would be the best direction to move in.

i honestly don't think i saw a coded event.
my first active event was the summer boardwalk

i don't post in all threads, either, but i do make an effort to post around.
i admit it gets a little too hectic trying to post everywhere

it doesn't sound silly at all, luna
another site i was a mod on had different post reply boxes you could use,
like different fonts and colored texts.
it was really amazing to see and use.
i also like the darker backgrounds since it is way easier on your eyes.
anything that we could do that wouldn't cost money would be a lot of fun to see.
i know the staff would have to do the work but maybe they could get a few more volunteers?
i know i would offer my help doing anything that needs doing, free of charge

Why not market Menewsha as just that? If our biggest fault is being seen as a close-knit community, why not turn that around and offer the same comfort to newcomers? You have the benefits of users maintaining the community-like feel, in addition to meeting new users who are looking for friends to talk to, to open up to, to share with.

Take for instance the popular websites like Tumblr, Twitter, and Pinterest. These sites allow users--total strangers mind you--to meet via a common interest or an aesthetic they both enjoy. You're able to connect to this person on a level deeper than small-talk and eventually you can see the very way they talk to each other change. You'll have no reason to change the aesthetics of Menewsha, but offer that community to the rest of the world.

There are different people attracted to different things.
some like forum, some like discussion, some like chat, some like debate, some like games...

Menewsha need to really outline their focus.

I don't think Menewsha needs to change, maybe add some new things, but radically change? That happened to the last -um, pixel-place thing, what are these site called in English?- site and it defentely made many people to stop hanging in. From pink to black... It was horrible. Plus the chances which were made were always confusing, because admins didn't explain them at all, and there were always something new when you opened the page. :I dumdum explaining is awfully difficult in English.

I think we could have more user-made art to share to the world. Because really, that's how I found Menewsha and I know that many of the users can make beautiful art. Like, someone could make a mene-inspirated picture, put it into mene-facebook page (does Menewsha have one?) and let us share it! ^_^ I totally would...

I agree Mimmu, a radical change could be dangerous for Menewsha. As you mention menewshas Facebook page, do you think Mene should have a clear link to it, maybe at the top of the page? and also to their tumblr? This could help Mene get 'in the groove' with modern day social networking, and help it increase popularity throughout other websites (which in turn could attract potential users from those sites) what do you think?

I don't think Menes Facebook page and tumblr blog are that busy and so making it clearer and show that they are all connected and easy to find could increase their traffic?

Does anyone else find that Menewsha is more of a closed off community to he rest of the Internet?

The only reason I have contacted with the facebook or tumblr pages are via twitter. That makes me doubt has there anywhere around Menewsha told about those pages - minus pinpoint-page, because that's so new tha even I can rember it-? So yes, Menewsha should have clear links to those sites.
Menewsha does have a page in dA too, but how many knows about that... I did find Mene via deviantArt, but not from Mene's page.
So the other social pages should be updated before there would be any bigger change in Menewsha itself. I think there's nothing wrong with Mene's own page. Or is there? It's quite hard to tumble into Menewsha by a chance. But that doesn't mean Menewsha is a closed community. I think is pretty easy to get into community - after all, I'm here still after a year- just finding Menewsha is difficult.

It's good thing that we have a forum for newlings! ^_^

I didn't know Mene had a dA account. It would be good if we could reach all of other pages through Menewsha, it would also make me more motivated to visit the pages, check on them and even post or reply to things on there. I agree that it isn't easy to just stumble upon Mene.

I also think things will pick back up once summer comes around. I personally haven't been on Mene in MONTHS because of my Senior year at college (which is about to end, omg yay!) was pretty brutal and I didn't even get online for much of anything. That, and many people are having finals now and the such. Things will probably pick back up soon.

i know it's just a color and all but things do get old.
and if menewsha has not changed since the beginning i can see it feeling 'stale' to some members.
i agree that different fonts, maybe a forum text feature and different post reply applications would stimulate a little more activity.
anything that is easy and not expensive or costing anything would be great.
my two favorite features of menewsha are the 'ping' and 'live update'.
well three, actually, i love that menewsha let's us use one contribution item for as many poses as we can layer.
it's why i continue to donate as often as i can.
i try to save us fifty dollars to donate at once so menewsha gets as much of their fifty dollars as possible.

I agree, It took me awhile to actually look into the website after my friend told me it would be fun. But I really like it and reaching out through over networks is a really good idea. Its been a blast so far, the best thing about menewsha is talk to people that are so friendly ^.^
