Right now, I'm trying to pack things up and move somewhere besides Michigan. I'm aiming for California but I'm not having luck with the job market. I was going to move to Canada and had everything to go to move up there but something happened that changed that. I'm trying to find somewhere where I can at least get a job where I have enough money to support myself and a family when I find a partner and I'm stable enough again. I am defiantly not anywhere near where I want to be in life. I feel like I'm holding myself back by staying where I am. Ideally, I wold like to write and live off of my writing but that's not very realistic so I'm settling for something else though I do not know exactly what yet.
I used to think by now I'd still be married, have kids, and have a stable career to support them with but life did not work out that way. I feel like I'm kind of all over the place right now because I'm just doing what I need to to survive and not end up on the streets again.

Mystic: What part of Michigan? (I'm there too and know it is tough...) Also, I'm sorry to hear you're scraping the barrel. We're trying to do something similar here to make ends meet. I don't know your circumstances, but there is a lot of small temp jobs and companies where you can work from home if you have the resources. I only make 15-17k a year but I do it comfortably from home. Perhaps that would help you a bit?

I'm right south of Detroit. I make enough for myself to live off of but my house is also paid off so all I really have to worry about is insurance and utilities, which is cheap enough. I'm just not really happy with jobs I have and I really do not like this area. I want to be able to travel and get out of here but I just can't with what I have now.

I wish you the best of luck, Mystic. I hope everything turns out for the better.
As for me, my goals are simple-ish. I am certified as a Vet Assistant and hope to get a job as one at the local vet office sometime soon. I am also getting married May 25th, so I hope that that all works out.
Also, I have been doing a lot of Zumba, eating right, and trying to maintain a healthy body and slim down some for summer and for the wedding. So, I cut out caffeine, cokes, soda, ect. Mostly just drink water, flavored water, and lemonade now. So, yay! Doing pretty good on sticking to healthier drinks, but I stray from time to time on healthy foods... *sighs* had some pizza last night and ice cream the night before last.. But I have been getting better..Lol.
Also have a goal to get out of the money trouble and if i can land the job, we will be doing just fine.
Both mine and his over all dream is to get a farmhouse and have a small farm in the country away from everybody. Have a few horses, chickens, cows, ducks, geese, dogs... you name it. :P He loves animals as much as I do, so if that works out, it would be fantastic. And I think it could workout if I can get the job and he stays working, we will make it. I hope.

It sounds like an awesome inspiration, Velvet! You would really like my parents as they had a similar dream and live out in the middle of nowhere on a 14 acre farm with sheep, goats, chickens, and dogs. There were llamas and a horse at one time but the larger animals are not very cost effective.
I'm also trying to lose some weight and I'm trying to cut out all caffeinated beverages from my diet. Other things I'm trying to cut out completely is fast food and other over-refined/processed foods. It can be difficult, especially with busy lifestyles. I guess I luck out as I work from home, so it's a bit easier to adhere to a certain diet. I have found I really enjoy fruit infused water. Basically you cut up fruit into small slices and can put it in a sealed container in water and let it sit overnight. The fruit ends up leaving a faint aftertaste that makes it easier to enjoy just plain old water. If the fruit is especially tart, I use a zero calorie Sucralose packet to help kick it up a notch.
I think part of my aspirations is to finally have both myself and my husband busy and working full time again. Both of us are in a type of transitionary period. :/
@Mystic - Perhaps you could do work at home type stuff? I do customer support and pay ranges from $8-13 an hour and it's fairly steady income. I'm just in the process of being transitioned to another line of work due to a company dropping support with us. Kind of a long story. I've been with this company for 2 and a half years now and they've been pretty good to me.

Izumi, That sounds like a very pleasant place to live. I'd certainly enjoy having a farm like that. I'm glad they got what they wanted. It is a real nice feeling whenever you can obtain a long sought out dream. :)

Goals for the future?
I want to be a successful bestselling author.
Ideal living place?
A city with everything in it.
Desires and Dreams?
An exciting romance with a guy I like who likes me back.
Work and play?
WRITING.
Health and image?
I hope to be brunette, all stretch marks gone, and my flat stomach returned to me.
Whatever else you have set as a personal goal.
I want to never have kids. Never. And I want to be in love with someone who's in love with me who's going to be my future husband. I want a happily ever after (with exceptional obstacles and such of course).

Yeah it's pretty cool. :) I don't know what we would do with it once they pass away. We're still on the fence as we're trying to make ends meet where we're at and would ideally like to be closer to town. Perhaps in ten or so years our desires/dreams will shift and that would sound like a lovely way to live. It does have its perks. The only problem is trying to make money to maintain it can be very challenging.

Career-wise, I would really like to design board games for a living. It's more of a dream than a real goal, since making it big in anything artistic is difficult without the right connections.
At the moment, I am finishing a bachelor's degree in discrete mathematics and planning on pursuing a master's as well. This probably means I will be a permanent student and eventually a professor and researcher. I hope to make some sort of fascinating discovery in the field of number theory.
Ideally though, I'll be able to do a bit of both. xD
As for residences, I'd be perfectly comfortable living where I presently do. I'm a man of simple taste, so anywhere that's peaceful is fine with me. I'm not a fan of big cities. I would like to visit the West Coast, particularly California, though I'm not sure I'd want to settle down there. I would really like to move to Canada, but it's not a huge priority at the moment so I have more reasons to stay than I do to go.
Health-wise, I would like to start eating smaller portions and walking more. I'm at a pretty healthy weight right now, but I think I would feel better if I ate three regular meals a day instead of one giant one and got a little bit of exercise.

In terms of my future career - I'd give anything to be a Professor who specializes in creative writing, but I'm aware that that's a bit of a pipe dream. I'll need an MA (well, an MFA if I get the 'fun' degree out of the way first) and a PHD (in something sensible - comp, TESOL, rhetoric, early american lit. etc), not to mention the publications and experience along the way in order to make me worth hiring. Not exactly a straight shot, or a quick one. In order to get into graduate school with things as they are now (with student debt draining my account and no job to speak of) is to get into a program willing to offer me a fellowship or assistantship, and do it quickly (or find some job to tide me over and help me scrape by until I can get one of said 'good deals' and thereby avoid bankrupting myself on the way to my end goal).
I thought I'd fund what I was looking for in the BTR (Boston Teacher Residency) program, but did not make the cut for spring admissions (mind you, I was informed that they are the most difficult period in terms of acceptance rate, since it is the last of 3 'first come, first serve' style rolling admissions periods.
Anywho, I'm at the point where I may take a good friend of mine up on an offer of a place to crash for a bit while I look for a job in Boston, study for the GRE, and so forth. It's about high time I stopped hopping for things and dreaming about them, and started actively pursuing what I want in life.

I really want to get a Master's or Doctorate in Psychology. I'm only just now finishing up my first year of college, so that's a ways off, but it's what keeps me going through every tedious assignment, late night spent writing essays, and early class that I don't want to get up to go to.
I'd like to someday own a nice home, and that would definitely be helped with one of the degrees I mentioned. I'd like to think I wouldn't find myself in an apartment with a Master's. I also might like to live in the northwest, like Washington or Oregon.

Well, I've wanted to be a teacher for a long time, but now that my favorite teacher I ever had is probably going to be fired when he did nothing wrong, I'm not so sure anymore. I'd like to get into psychology. Not to be a psychologist/psychiatrist necessarily, but I think I'd really enjoy being some type of counselor, helping teenagers with the kinds of problems that I had as a teenager. I'd feel useful that way, like I was helping.
Currently I live in Colorado, and I really love it here, its beautiful, but its not our ideal place anymore. We're thinking about moving to Texas. Wherever we wind up is probably where I'll live for the rest of my life.
My dreams? Well I really do want to help people. That's all I've ever wanted to do. Besides troubled kids as I mentioned above, I'd be happy as a clam at high tide if I could help my family (mainly my mother) out of their crappy situation. I'd love to win the lottery and be able to buy my mom a house and a car, so she can have something of her own for once in her life. I'd also love to be able to hire a live-in nurse for my dad, so he would be able to live with my mom and not be in a nursing home anymore. And of course, if I won that lottery, I'd open the cat sanctuary that I've wanted to have since the age of three. All the poor little alley cats and unwanted cats could live there and be safe from wild dogs and mean people with cars and pounds that euthanize them because they can't find them a home. There'd just be cats roaming everywhere on a few acres of land with a big house in the middle of it, where my family could live.

Ah, yes, a cat sanctuary! That's one of my dreams too. I don't know how realistic it'll end up being, but at the least I hope to find an already existing no-kill that I can provide some assistance to.

I would love to donate time to help with rehoming cats and dogs. Perhaps if we end up living out at my parents property there would be plenty of space for them to roam. My parents already have a handful of cats. It's a massive 14 acre property so they have plenty of space to roam and be cats.

I love how much animal love is now flowing into this thread. If I thought it were feasible, I'd open up a shelter. I've certainly volunteered in enough of them to know the basic ins and outs of what is needed in order to properly care for and adopt out animals. Unfortunately, I don't see my future providing me with the capital for that sort of venture, even with outside donations, so I imagine I'll continue to volunteer at various shelters if and when I can.
@`Kitami - Don't let one person's bad experience get you down. That person may get fired from one job, but just think of how many people that they've already managed to inspire or will inspire at the next. Teaching isn't necessarily something you do because it provides a stable position ( though it generally does once you've gotten tenure), but something you do to inspire others to keep learning, to keep asking why and pursuing their passions. It is something you do to make a difference, to see the light in someone's eyes so, if it's something you're interested in (if those things appeal to you), don't let one person's bad experience turn you off of it.

So many great aspirations! You guys really do have some incredible dreams.
Shiverpass, no kids? That seems kind of lonely to me. But, I enjoy writing myself and would absolutely love to write and complete my own book someday that becomes well known.
Vox, that sounds pretty exciting! Do you enjoy drawing and making art?
Seri, so I can assume you would like to teach? I think it is really an admirable goal to be specialized in specific types of studies. It would definitely be hard work to be able to be certified in something like that, but it is definitely doable. I believe anything you set your mind to can be done one way or another. It just may take time, of course. I wish you luck with it!
Kitami, you also have a very admirable goal. Helping teens can have such a huge impact on their lives simply because when you are a teen everything seems so important and dramatic in your life at the moment. This is a very doable goal and I really hope you achieve it. Helping people is a great way to spend your life because you can never give enough kindness, support, and help, in my opinion. I can really see you being appreciated if you help struggling teens through problems they face, because we all know what it feels like to go through that stage.
Texas sounds.. hot. But, I'd prefer the heat over the cold. I live in Kentucky and I really do not like the winter here.. I just want warm weather.. xD And that is really sweet! I adore animals myself and often take strays to the shelter here (which is a no kill shelter), so I understand where you're coming from. I'd like a house with a lot of land and a barn or two for strays... If I had a lot of land... I'd have too many animals..xD
Cherry, congrats on finished up your first year in college! It really must feel nice to have began your educational journey to achieving your career dreams. (As corny as that sounds.. xD) How is college life treating you?
---------- Post added 05-06-2013 at 04:17 PM ----------
I just really hope to work in a Veterinary hospital or clinic someday. I am certified as a Vet Assistant, but would like to continue my education and get my degree as a Vet Tech. My actual dream was to either become a Marine Biologist or an Anthropologist, but I had to say goodbye to those dreams because to do either I'd have to move away from my family and travel a lot. Sure, traveling sounds great, but not for someone that also wants a family. So, I've settled for another childhood dream of mine - helping animals. Once I can land the job I hope for my fiance and I - soon to be husband in 19 days - to be able to purchase a farm. It is also his dream to have a farm so I intend on helping him achieve it. I'd love to have a country home with a barn, a chicken coop, horses, donkeys, and highland cows.. I love those hairy cows... they are just adorable.. xD Also a couple of ponds with ducks and geese. Just an overall farm life would be great. I also would love to own a wolf hybrid. I have wanted one for sooo long. (Another great dream would be running and owning a wolf sanctuary.. My favorite animal.) But, I'd also like to breed and sale animals, because being an animal lover it would be a great form of extra money. Making other people happy through animals. <3 Owning a pet store is another idea, but it wouldn't be one of those pet stores that sells animals without providing knowledge or buys pets from animal mills. I'd make sure there was plenty of information on all the animals sold, how to care for them and I would make sure that I myself knew everything about every type of animal I'd sell.. I've gone to different pet stores where the employees didn't know anything about the animals.
Honestly, I have so many dreams that I know that some of them will never be accomplished. Like the wolf sanctuary and the pet store I'd like to own.

Goals for the future?
I'd like to get my doctorate and teach college level writing. I also would enjoy getting some of pieces out there.
Ideal living place?
In a relatively nice home in the city.
Desires and Dreams?
I really want to be in a relationship. That should happen next year sometime when I'm in college. (I've never actually been in a relationship, cause I only know one other lesbian)
Work and play?
Teaching college level writing, and adopting two Chinese crested dogs.
Health and image?
Keep going for bike rides?
Whatever else you have set as a personal goal! Tell us here!
Pretty much my goals are to just to be happy and keep on truckin'. I feel like I could of came up with way more exciting answers, but that's all I really want from life.
