Does your tongue ever get totally sore after eating a pineapple? Happened to me once and today it happened again. And you know milk is supposed to soothe your tongue, way more so than water but maybe it's just that milk kills spice. Because it works when I've unwittingly chewed up a chili but it wasn't working this time when I ate milk sweets. I was hungry all right and I felt doomed at the thought that I wouldn't be able to eat anything because of my stupid tongue getting in a state.
But then I ate banana chips.
So when I was small my mom used to put banana chips and cheeselings in my snack-box everyday that I'd sit and eat the busride home. Then we moved and I grew up and stuff and she stopped. Back then I loved 'em though and today I realised I still love banana chips. They weren't hurting my sore tongue. They weren't even very salty, they tasted... erm there isn't really an English word for it but in Telugu it's 'kamma'. Like butter and cheese and stuff, there isn't a particular strong taste but it tastes gooood.
Yay let's praise banana chips and make them the next French fries, or something.
Wish I could post two polls with one thread, then I'd ask y'all whether pineapples make your tongue sore or not. (I think it's my luck that I only encounter the evil ones )

That could be an allergic reaction of sorts?

Also, I'm allergic to bananas. So no banana chips for me!

Yeah could be, since it happens to my Dad too but not my mom.
That kind of sucks, though bananas aren't so great in themselves. What happens when you eat one?

Life's the same. Study, study all day long :P I wish I could jump into the world of the net and never come out.
Nilu-chan's class chose the topic 30 things to do before you die for the class mag and told her to do the cover. In anime style cause she's known for that now, she agreed and made this beautiful pic copied from the PV of Torinoko City of a girl curled up slightly and sleeping with papers scattered in the background. She decided her classmates could draw whatever they thought represented life in the papers but both the teacher and her classmates said the pic was too depressing which is silly cause the girl was smiling in her sleep. Seriously though Nilu made her eyes so pretty closed, the eyelashes OMG. They tried to make the girls grin way wider which was hideous, as a compromise Nilu changed it to that little triangular anime smile but I still think it's spoilt. Argh people are annoying... sorry for ranting I just liked the pic because we actually do sleep right through life. We conserve energy. And they think that's depressing what the hell.

My mouth, lips, and throat get really itchy. Basically any pink part of my skin that touches the banana. So the inside of my cheeks, my gums, my tongue, the roof of my mouth... it's incredibly uncomfortable. It's not as bad as it could be, since I don't swell up or anything like that. But I've heard that those major, dangerous kinds of allergic reactions don't come out of nowhere - they're preceded by mild reactions. So I could have a really bad reaction someday, so I just avoid bananas to be safe.

Eirian, aren't they? ^_^ I don't really dig bananas in any other form.

It's SO not worth the risk, Cherry. Only time I really eat pure bananas is when I'm menstruating, they really help with cramps.

CycloneKira: seriously?! There's like a TAB that proclaims that you can trade here! *Gives you a mild mottikay on the head*
You do come back to a thread you've replied to even if people don't ping/quote you right? Otherwise you should say in your sig that you need to be pinged/quoted. (I've replied to your other posts in General Discussion without pinging you- as a test )

My tongue gets sore with pineapple, It's not fair because I love pineapple! But it is quite stingy and makes my taste buds hurt like they are sharp.

Pineapples have these little microfibers in them that can be a bit rough on the tongue if you eat much. It just happens.

I can usually get about halfway through a pineapple before it does that.

Apparently, soaking the pineapple in sugar water for a while before eating it helps prevent that, probably by leaching out some of the acidity, which I'm sure contributes to the wear and tear on the mouth.

I never bother though, I just eat it until it hurts. XD

Apparently pineapple is really healthy because now my mom is trying to find ways (including sugary ones) around my 'apparent allergy'. Apparently the sore tongue shouldn't happen if you don't drink water immediately before or after eating the spiny pine. (I'm sceptical.) On the hopeful, my dad who suffers similarly is on my side so I might win.

I cannot eat too much pineapple at a time. I don't think I'm allergic, but I'm really not sure. When I eat more than a few pieces, especially of sour pineapple chunks, my stomach will start to feel weird. I don't think it's an allergy because my mouth, throat, and esophagus are fine, but who knows?

I love the taste of banana chips, but they are rather hard to chew.

I had to look up aubergine. Is this word the equivalent of eggplants?

Me, too! I have developed a tendency to use my molars a lot more, and avoid using my incisors.

I've never had any irritation from pineapple. I only discovered how good they are a year or two ago, and wow, I was missing out! I found a store that had really amazingly sweet and ripe ones, and I'd cut it up and eat half a pineapple in one sitting! No soreness or stomach upset, just a mouth that had been subjected to a whole lot of acidic juice and sugar.

Wow, that is impressive! The pineapples we buy are usually extremely big, so I cannot imagine myself eating even half of one in a single sitting!

By the way, I was wondering --- how do you all cut a pineapple? The middle core is very hard to eat, so I am wondering if you all just cut around it and discard the center?

Yeah, I cut the center out! I've seen pineapple corers for sale in stores, but I just cut very thick rings then cut the center out of those.

Ah! Okay. I used to slice the pineapple cores into somewhat slim threads and eat them that way. I guess I've been doing it wrong all this time!

I mean, if you get enjoyment out of it, keep doing it! There's nothing saying you can't eat pineapple cores, just that it's usually unpleasant. That's why, when you see pre-prepared pineapple, the core is removed:

I had to read the options multiple times because I thought the second option was hatch em' I don't think it would be good to hatch evil pineapples.
