I'd like to respond to a few things in here:
There's no rule saying that you can't become staff if you have an infraction. I got whacked with an infraction myself back in 2008 for a signature picture that was too big. No warning, no chance to change it, just BAM infraction. I was totally freaked out and that infraction is still on my account today. That being said when we look at potential staff members a lot goes into consideration. What sort of temperament do they have? Will they work well in a team? Do they respond well in a crisis, under stress, etc.? What is their real life situation like (i.e. do they have free time to help out)? Do they know their way around the site? Do they have any negative history on the site? Etc.
We totally appreciate everything the community members put into the site! We don't necessarily climb the highest mountain and sing praises to each and every individual who has contributed but we see what you do and we definitely do care!
@ Poet: Your offer to pay for facebook ads is really a tremendously generous offer and greatly appreciated! I think like you said though, we should work on sprucing the site up first before we go putting money into ads. As Shadami hinted at, the AAs have been thinking about a forum shuffle based on user feedback and I hope to get an announcement asking for thoughts and opinions from the community up soon so we can fine tune how the new forums will be arranged. As for the actual paying of ads, I'm not sure how that would work. I would have to defer to Yanyan13 about that since he would know more about that than I do. Why don't you shoot him a PM?

Very true you are sort of the market master around here. I struggle with finding the value of old rates a lot, it's part of why I don't sell any of them.
Zig - really? I've heard it myself that an infraction prevents you. I never read it anywhere but I heard it from staff a couple times whenever this got brought up. That's sort of why the rumor is here.
I'll be sure to drop him a pm when I get on my lunch then.
I'm not sure how ideal Facebook would be but it's what had an estimate available.

Did you hear that recently Poet? I wonder if that was an old rule. I know rules for the site were a lot more strict back in the day.

I also have an infraction on my account. Don't remember what it was for. Failure to quote i think it was way back when i was on the site for maybe a week. xD So perhaps it was something with the old rules yeah :]

Zig - It was definitely old. But of course nobody really heard any different (cause we aren't mods) so the rumor stuck around.
I can tell because only the older users seem to mention it.

Hey Ziggy. Thanks for clearing that up. Yes in that case i think you might be right, it's an old rule possibly.
People also mature & change. And shouldn't be judged on something that happened years ago. Don't you think? I mean i am definitely not the same person i was 8 years ago. I look at myself, queen, hummy, poet. All very old users, very well known, very charitable, obviously very loyal. And ask why isn't one of us mods? What is so bad about us, that the site doesn't think we're good enough for that? No offence but i know a few mods past and present, who have some issues of their own. I won't go into that because it will then be off topic. But yeah, no one is perfect. And everyone deserves a second chance to prove themselves worthy.

I'm most definitely not suitable as a mod
I'm not so good with that sort of thing.
Especially now I'm way too busy to manage anything consistently.
Of course I'm always willing to help out but not as staff. Places of power terrify me like a fear of heights.

Reading through this thread, I'm so happy to see all the ideas that you folks are throwing around. It's honestly a little exciting to know that Mene still has such a dedicated membership.
Communication is definitely something that we're trying to improve around these parts. Getting announcements up, shooting out emails, posting around social media, responding to threads like this - When we get really engaged with all the planning and organization on the back end, I know that just plain talking to you guys can fall by the wayside, and that's something that I freely admit isn't cool. So we're trying hard, and I hope that you'll all work with us as these efforts keep going.
Because really, I appreciate so much of what goes on around here. I don't want anyone to feel like they're forgotten. Even just making new threads in the GD or saying hi to people in the Welcome Lounge is an awesome thing. All those little actions add up.
I kinda disappear off the forums for long periods of time, but seriously - Y'all can PM me if you have specific concerns about staff/events/etc. I'm around every single day, just quiet.

It is very nice to see how many staff have replied to this. Makes me very hopeful :)
Plus we used to talk to a lot of you before you were AAs or in some cases before even mods. We miss you!

I wonder... does that mean we need to advertise to people who are old like us? Or young like we were when we joined?

Salvete - Well the truth of the matter is, us users are also responsible for the condition of Menewsha.
There was a time when Menewsha failed to welcome new users, and I admit I was guilty of this as well. If Menewsha's plan is to work we users need to diligently welcome users and answer their questions, get them feeling welcome.
An unwelcome user will not stay after all.
I wonder if it may be a good idea to kind of make a thread about how to welcome a user. I see at times sometimes we get a bit off track from welcoming and chat among ourselves in newbie threads.

not so much on the spot to think of what to say.
