Hello everyone! I'm having trouble deciding what kind of laptop to get for my graduation gift (I have to make sure my dad is well informed on which one I want) and till this point in time, I was set to be getting a brand new Macbook. However, circumstances have changed and I am in need of choosing a different computer because the Macbook is no longer within our price range. If anyone could help me out with figuring out which computer would be the best one for me, I'd be eternally grateful!
My Requirements:
No more than $800-900. $900 is probably pushing it.
Min 1GB Ram
Must look attractive (no butt ugly computers please ^^)
No Dells.
Light weight!
Will most likely be used for the following:
Internet
School Projects
Movies
I think that's it. I would really appreciate the help!

He probably doesn't want his lap set on fire when the battery explodes. :)

I'd give the HP website a quick look. I know a lot of people who has owned laptops from HP and they've never had any issues. If you go on the HP site, you can search the notebooks based on price range and such.
I know people who also have Thinkpads and like them.. but they aren't the most sleek and attractive of laptops.

Thanks fiarra! I know I've checked HP before, and they're nice. They do add up though when you go to customize them though which is kind of sad, but I have them on my list of brands so far ^^.
I haven't heard anything good about thinkpads unfortunately : (

What about toshiba laptops? They seem to be pretty good and you can get them for pretty cheap as well. If you buy from like Circuit City's website.

I have a Toshiba myself but it's 4 years old now so I don't know what the current prices are. I've heard of people having issues with the harddrives, I know I did for mine. I ended up having to replace the drive entirely.

try looking at newegg it's a wonderful site with laptops from all different companies. It also shows reviews etc. on some of them. price range for what you want is about 600-800 no problem. they still even offer some pcs with xp professional as well as vista. toshiba, hp, loveno, sony, gateway, everex, compaq, acer are all companies that offer laptops. my current laptop is from asus it's an eee pc it's cheap but doesn't have much storage.
