I've never read Eye of the Dragon. The Stand is my favorite by King.

Rose Madder is kinda complicated, but it really is a good book and I'd recommend it.
(Though, its kind of gory, so I don't know if you'd like it.)
My mom is like a Stephen King fanatic, but I'm not a big fan. His books tend to bore me, with a few exceptions. Eye of the Dragon and Rose Madder, and also one he wrote under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman- Rage. Which is a banned book now, because of the subject matter and the countless school shootings that have been happening.

I'm not a gore fan, but if theres a good plot, than I might like it... Ok, thanks for the recommendation.
Woah, I never knew he had aliases, but I'm learning that most popular authors do... Cool, Rage might be a book I'd like to read too, if I can find it anywhere. Do you think the library would have that book?

I think its a nationally banned book, so the library probably wouldn't have it. I know mine doesn't.
I found mine at a secondhand book shop.
If you want to look for it, probably just look for "The Bachman Books, four early novels by Stephen King".
That's the edition I have mine in.

Oh, this is so exciting! And exactly my kind of thing. I knew I'd love Menewsha. :)
Here are the books that I know for certain were after New Year's, and I'll add more to the list as I read. I wish I'd made a list, or something.
Mini Goal: 50
Altogether: 75
Page Goal: 22,500
Niamh's Book List
1-10
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk (220)
It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vezzini (448)
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (544)
New Moon by Stephanie Meyer (608)
Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer (624)
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston (256)
A Scanner Darkly by Phillip K. Dick (288)
Locked In Time by Lois Duncan (224)
The Finishing School by Muriel Spark (192)
That's all that I can remember, just now. Since Fanfiction doesn't count, this will quite encourage me to go through all of the books I've borrowed.
I'm going to attack my shelf. :eager:

I know, I don't support it either.
This book was banned because it was one of the several things that the Columbine School Shootings were blamed on.
Bunch of crap, as far as I'm concerned.
Niamh:: I need to read Twilight.

Bullllshit. Obviously, one book has nothing to do with why some kids go insane and kill people. Media just uses that as an excuse, so that the REAL reason doesn't get any attention...
Twilight? Isn't that the series about vampires? I keep hearing about it everywhere, but I've never read it.

My favorite book of this year was *definitely* Fight Club. I ended up writing a five page paper on it-- and the book was wonderful enough that I didn't mind at all. The writing style combines a lot of psychological realism with dark romanticism, which is the perfect mix for me. It's also hilarious, which is a plus.
I'd recommend it to anyone. And have, actually-- I've gotten about 5 of my friends to read it so far. ^.^
Twilight is the ubiquitous vampire series, yes. From an intellectual standpoint, it's not heavy reading material at all. It is, however, ridiculously fun. It's the tweenyest book I've read in some time, but I still enjoyed it thoroughly.
Most of the books I've read this year were borrowed books-- I've been trying to go through the pile. Fight Club, however, I own a copy of-- did I mention that I love that book?
-----------------
On a different note, I've been an enthusiastic participant of Banned Books Week for years. The most ridiculous reason for banning a book, so far? Alice and Wonderland takes the cake, for me-- it was banned because, apparently, making animals talk puts them on the same level as humans. Someone got upset enough about this to ban the book.
I'm completely against censorship.

I enjoyed the movie, Fight Club, did you think the book was better?
I might read it sometime, but I've just been so busy lately...
Have you read A Clockwork Orange? That had lots of 'dark romanticism' in it.

I've actually not seen the movie-- I'd like to, as I've heard good things about it. I'm a "books first" sort of girl, and I'm waiting for it to play again at the Camera 7. They do midnight showings of movies that aren't in box office.
A Clockwork Orange is happily sitting on the shelf. I've been avoiding it, senselessly, because it's a marked up copy-- annoyingly so, as it has every single blessed slang-word highlighted in red with an explanation in the margins. I got it second hand at a library sale, but didn't look inside. I'm waiting for a cleaner copy to surface.
... I like figuring things out on my own, and it will help me improve my knowledge of Russian!
In truth, I've been kind've lazy about it.
While I'm here, I'd definitely recommend the short story "Memento" by Jonathon Nolan. I think about it because it's another one of those-- "Hey, that's a great movie" books. I've read it, but not seen the film interpretation.

That movie is good, but really violent... The end is freaking awesome. Totally my favorite part of the movie. *nod* I bet it would be fantastic at the cinema. Go for it.
I own the clockwork orange movie and I've read the book... The book is kinda freaky at parts (I really love the end though), but I still prefer the movie, strangely enough, probably cause I love his accent in the movie. The slang words are hilarious!
You're learning Russian?
Ok, cool, I might read it sometime.
I gotta say, I really liked the Lord of the Ring series... It was a great fantasy novel.
