Maybe I missed it, but I'm really sure that there wasn't already a Panic at the Disco thread. This is less for "WHOO!!! I LOVE PANIC!!!", and more for discussion about their new album. Maybe I just didn't read into the last one enough, but they DO seem very different. I'm not complaining, either--although I'm sure that others are.
Honestly, it makes me think Beatles a little. Just the abstraction, the overall sound.... Is it just me? But I really enjoyed the new album. I'm still finishing out what I think of it, but so far... All good news.
If you want to discuss the first album, too, I'm game for that. (PLEASE don't say, "Nyeh! Fall Out Boy! Nyeh! Panic sucks!".... At least give the new album a try. I found them to be radically different.)

Okay. I decided to give the new album a listen, even though Panic tends to give me a migraine.
Shame, shame. Do not ever compare them to the Beatles! XD Although... I pulled up "Nine In The Afternoon" and after hearing the piano, the first thing I thought was "PAUL". And the harmonics as the end reminded me of Queen. Hah.
I don't know. It still seems like generic, mainstream pop-rock to me. I don't really hear much of a difference, though admittedly I have never listened to anything outside of the singles. Like I said, they make my head hurt.

XP I don't mean the Beatles specifically, necessarily--just that overall vibe you get from listening to the music.
Although it IS worth mentioning that whenever you get a pop/rock/whatever phenomenon (such as the Beatles), in the future, you can NEVER EVER compare anything to them. Despite your opinion, they're always idolized. -shrugs- Just a thought that I've had.
And, yeah; you've actually got to look for more songs on the album to find it. "Nine in the Afternoon" seemed similar to other songs that they've had before...
XD I can get them making your head hurt; sorry for giving you a migraine.

The possible Beatles sound is what pulled me in with Nine in the Afternoon.
I didn't like Panic at the Disco much before but this album has really grown on me.
It seems very different then their previous work and my friend who was a fan of their older stuff doesn't like it.
A lot of the songs on the album seem similar but the ones that stand out are the ones that I enjoy most.

Yeah; I can see people who enjoyed their first album not really liking their second so much. They do sound very different to me, too.
Two of the songs that really popped out to me on this were "When the Day Met the Night" and "Do You Know What I'm Seeing".

Pretty. Odd. is really folk-y in my opinion. And as someone who kinda enjoyed Panic's first album, this new album is a new sound that takes getting used to.
I don't see this album growing on me though. <.< I'll give it another listen though. :3

I haven't listened to it, but I have a lot of friends who love it, and I generally don't doubt their opinions of music too much x3;

I really need to redo my mindset and listen to it again. I was expecting saccharine pop like the first album and was wholly disappointed. I need to go into it once again realizing that it'll be different and see if I like the album for what it is.

That's really the problem with a lot of albums.... When a band reinvents itself, you may decide that you don't like the album, just because you weren't expecting what came out. It's always worth double-checking to hear it on its own merits, not the merits of the band as it used to be.

I usually don't make that mistake, but the buzz around the album consisted of a lot of the band saying "no, really, we're the same..." Hell, the first track on the album is the band assuring you they haven't changed. Ipso facto, I assumed they hadn't changed.
Now that I know they have, I need to give it another listen like I said. :)

Yeah; that would've thrown me a bit too if I'd connected it. XD
Of course, you could just take that as average "say one thing, do another".... XD

There's some good songs on the second album, and I plan to purchase it. I doubt it will become my favorite or anything, but I think it's worth the $13 on iTunes.

Is that a Japanese band? Don't shoot me. I've just heard a lot about them, but I don't know who they are.

I was expecting great things of Pretty Odd, but ended up being kinda disappointed. :( That's not to say it's a particularly bad album, I don't think... it's just not my cup of tea. I like Northern Downpour and Nine In The Afternoon, mind you. :)

I've always been a fan of Panic At The Disco.. i'll like any genre of music, so the 'change' didnt really affect my view xD the new album is very different though, a lot softer i think.
The old album was better in my opinion, but there are a few good songs on Pretty. Odd... Nine In The Afternoon was good, and i'm really into Northern Downpour right now.
And is it just me, or are all the lyrics utter nonsense? xD i like it.

I was a huge fan of Panic! at the Disco, back with A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, and I didn't know what to expect when I picked up the new album to listen to.
I loved their rather dark sound, and they had their own style.
Well, I love their new sound as well. It's pop-rock/whatever, but they do it in their own style. A few of their songs make absolutely no sense at all, which I love, like Mad as Rabbits and Pas de Cheval.
I think they stayed themselves, and even though they totally reinvented themselves, they did it successfully. But I will always miss their old sound. It was unique, catchy, and hard not to sing along with. Their new album is the same but in a different way.
My favorite song right now is When the Day Met the Night. It is such a sweet song, and so lovely. I can just image a moon-looking character falling in love with some golden blonde babe dressed in a white or golden toga.

When I got their first album I loved it, it was exciting and fast paced. Then I got the second album and wondered if I pre-ordered the right album. They had a totally different style, but I loved it. The music made me smile. I especially liked "When the day met the night" By far my favorite in the album

I know I already posted.
Anyway, I just bought the album. I don't see a point to most of the songs, but I love them anyway.
Seriously, it's so random it's hilarious. It's awesome!
Edit: -Spearmint-, that's my favorite too. It's perfect! And possibly the only one I understand.

When The Day Met The Night is probably the best song on that album, but the entire point of this album was to be random. Thats why its called Pretty. Odd. xD

XD That's by far my favorite song as well. It really makes me want to dance.... I keep trying to visualize it, but can't quite.... Beautiful song, though.
