A widely accepted definition of "religion" is: "a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith"

Using that definition, anything that a person can believe in can be considered a religion, so in the technical sense yes, it can.

This topic doesn't really have much of a debate attached, though.

It's not really a religion so much as a philosophy. The major difference I see is that religions generally involve some sort of idea of how we got here, and gives you a specific set of beliefs and practices.

But Kinmotsu is right. This isn't much of a debate; yes or no questions don't work well.

Well, having said that, I'll go ahead and nudge this over to GD where it can get more exposure and some conversation of a non-debate nature.

Hm..Yeah I agree with everyone else. I wasn't sure what it was called exactly but it just didn't seem like a 'religion'. Philosophy is the word for it. ^__^

Hm...yeah its defiantly a yes or a no. But then again maybe it can be a debate? If someone thinks it is a religion and wants to debate on how it is and how it isn't a religion? ^_^

Yes or no isn't much of a discussion.

But since astrology attempts to dictate the way you should act in order to achieve happiness, then I would say that it could be considered a religion depending on how the person uses and references it.

Alas, it's more of a discussion than it is a debate, which is where the topic began...

Agreed.

Purple, you seem REALLY interested in astrology. I've seen a post from you before regarding it. Is there a particular reason?

Astrology and religion? Sure, there are links between astrology and religion, ancient, occult ones, in particular, but to me, making a religion out of astrology sounds pretty silly.

Nope, I don't think it has all the things that define a religion :3

It depends. You mean like..astrology in regards to belief in the Zodiac or something? Otherwise...I don't think it's much of a "religion" Not really sure since I don't know how a religion is defined,.
