I apologise beforehand. I'm sure this was tackled in a sticky somewhere but I'm getting a little dizzy looking for a specific answer so to be on the safe side, please allow me to ask.

One of the rules states that we shouldn't make multiple threads of a topic, but what if the thread that the topic was on is already dead or hasn't been active for, say, a month or two?

Can we then be allowed to make a new thread at least similar to that topic?

I don't mean to create the same topic, i.e., using the very same thing. There are always sub- and related topics to every subject, after all, if one uses his/her creativity. You see, I was thinking of creating a new thread in the computer/games forum but was faced with that problem. Thanks!

UPDATE: I also need help. My welcome message to a newbie in the "Fresh Meat" forum got double-posted. I think it's my server lag. Plus my mouse had been acting up for the past few days but I already got it fixed, darn it. Anyway, I need help . I don't mind losing any gold, I just want to know if I can delete or have a mod delete it. Thank you (sob).

When you accidentally double post, you can simply use the report function to report it and a mod will find and delete it for you. It happens a few times per day.

As far as thread necroing, that primarily depends on the forum. If it's a slow forum (debates, media, etc) then there isn't much of a necroing rule, since the topics aren't moving that fast so you can reply to them at any time.

Quote:
Thread necroing:Please do not reply to threads older than 6 months or otherwise considered significantly out-of-date. (The actual necroing date may vary across subforums.) Posting in an old thread without contributing to the subject is an example of necroing, especially if the thread content itself is dated.

In some forums where the subject matter remains relatively unchanged, or the forum is very small (debates for example), necroing is not an issue. In the Books and Media forums which have thread directories, you're allowed to post in any of the threads listed, regardless of age.
From the rules --^

I see. So that's what those thread directories are for. Regarding reporting, I thought those were used for rule-breakers only . Thanks a lot, Kinmotsu! Feel free to lock this already.
