You can get apples and more candy corn from knocking on the NPCs' doors. They can be accessed by clicking on the 'Trick and Treat' tab on the main event banner.

In fact, you might want to check out the event FAQs too, stickied right on top of the event forum. You would find all you need to know about the event from there. =)
