Well, the hairpins are there to match the waist sash, the gloves, the bottom of the heaven skirt and the shoes. :D And I do have the heaven earrings on, but it's hard to see them. I did try the dark blue earrings from the winter event, but I thought they'd be a bit too cluttery.

Did you mean the Ice circlet? The December CI from last year?

I do not have the aphrodite hairclips, but I could buy them. XP Let me go check it all out.

Look, it's simple. The longer that you're on a site, the more you get used the items, the more items you have, thus, the better avatars you can make.
It's not some grand "we hate newbies" scheme, newbies just usually can't afford an amazing avatar.
But hey, just a few weeks ago someone won Admin's Pick who had only been on the site for like, a week at that time. And I'm pretty sure her avatar was nom'd in this thread, too.
And when I won admin's pick, I had only been on the site for a month.
We don't scour the entire site for avatars to nominate, we just nom what we see, and most of us see mainly just regulars of this forum. And newbies don't really hang out in the avatar forum, since, as I said before... they can't afford a good avatar yet.
I mean, your avatar isn't even wearing a shirt. There's nothing wrong with that, but you're not going to win a thing like this when you're not fully dressed. You're just not. It's not a popularity contest or a make-the-rich-richer. It's just about pretty avatars. and that's it.

It would make sense that most of the people who won would be rich, because they have more clothing options to choose from, but I agree with most everyone here in saying that they're not rich, they have just been around a while. ^-^

so I put this outfit together a couple days ago, now I'm not so sure about it. Does anyone have any crits? Or should I just go for a different look?

Navi, I really like it except for it needs more color distribution. It's lacking that yellow/gold color at the bottom and I would suggest a sock or something, but I don't think that there's really anything in that color for short socks or whatever. I'd also like to see that gold in the top too, around the head.

The black of the hair and the Corset are too much for the sandals, which quite frankly just aren't big enough to balance it out.
