I've always wanted a rat. My mother hates the naked tail though but I think they're soft, fuzzy and cute! :D

My little sister picked up a bunch of snails from the local river. It's been about four days and now there are baby snails everywhere. It's crazy. As much as we'd like to keep them though, we're going to release them back to where they belong. It is kind of interesting waking up with ten more snails than we had before.

When I was a child, our gerbil had babies. It was totally unplanned, though!
It was a pair of gerbils we adopted from a rescue centre. They told us they were both girls and so wouldn't breed, but my mum decided to separate them anyway, just in case.
Turns out my mum was right, but one of them was already pregnant.
She got bigger and bigger, but we just thought she was fat! Until one morning my brother woke up and thought her guts were coming out... until he realised her "guts" were squeaking and moving around!
My parents weren't impressed (hairless baby rodents really gross my mum out, she threw up in the hall the first time she saw them!), but my brothers and I adored them, and loved looking after them, especially when they were old enough so we could touch them.
Since then I've fostered guinea pigs on behalf of a local rescue centre, and a couple of them have had babies. They're usually in pretty bad shape if they come to me though, so a lot of time the mothers and babies don't survive.
It's pretty upsetting, and I've only ever managed to successfully hand-rear one orphaned piglet, the rest haven't made it.
Poor little things. :(

She's a brown Birkshire and we don't. Also she finally did pop and now we have 14 little pink squirmy baby rats. they're a week old now and finally have their markings and are starting to develop a little bit of fuzz. It's still going to be another four weeks though before we can separate them from their mother but they're so cute!

Whoa weird. There used to be a thread here with almost the exact same thread title. XD
I've never had a pet before, save for a tiny goldfish that died when my sister put it in tap water...

Adain: Wow! That's a big litter!
Do rats normally have so many babies at once? And can you handle the babies right away, or do you have to wait until they're older before you can touch them?
They're very cute, though. They look like they're all cuddling together! ^_^

lol they are, they have to keep each other warm. 14 babies isn't exactly normal. It's a pretty big litter. her mom had eleven and that was considered kinda big, but more normal, though only ten survived. we're hoping that all 14 will make it. and yeah you can handle them right away as long as you're gentle. Bea doesn't really seem to mind us holding her babies so it's all good. She's taking pretty good care of them so we're pretty sure they're all going to make it. Some of them might be blue and we're excited about that.

I wish we did. We always neutered our pets after we got them. Congratulations on your rat, though!

Non of my animals ever had babies, mainly because they all were oddly male. The funny part is they all found us.
Now I have a female cat, goofy thing; but she is fixed!
