I've decided to stay off facebook until I see Harry Potter so I don't have to sit there and read about how good the movie was and get jealous. xD
SPOILER DDDD: [but you all should have read Deathly Hallows by now anyway D<]
@Bunai;;
My favourite character who dies is Snape.
It just makes me so sad, he shouldn't have died. He was the best! D:

@StripedSocks`: I agree with you, but I think it was fitting that his character died at the end.
I don't know why... but I just saw it coming for a long time and it was a good way for his character to redeem himself.
I wish that J.K. Rowling had stuck to her original plan and killed off Mr. Weasley in the fifth book instead of Lupin at the end. I love Mr. Weasley and it would have devastated me, but it would have also made much more of an impact on both the characters in the novel and readers alike. Ugh, I'm so disappointed with so many of the characters that were killed off in the final book. >__<
The only deaths that I felt had meaning were Snape and Dobby. I was really upset when Hedwig died because it seemed so random and just a way to get rid of her for the next portion of the storyline. The students that died in the castle were also very random and didn't quite have any impact. And why did she have to kill off Fred?! I knew a Weasley had to go... but this one made the least sense to me. The twins had the least amount of characterization and it was difficult to tell them apart in the books (personality-wise). The twins had also recently started that successful joke shop and it just seemed like a shame to lose one of them.
I think, in the end, J.K. Rowling decided to kill off characters for the shock factor... the ones that no one was expecting to die. That's a shame, because I really think it would have been better to choose characters whose deaths would have had more meaning. A lot of people saw Snape dying at the end, so it wasn't too surprising, but it's one of the deaths that really had a powerful effect on readers. I was sad to see some of the characters go, but I was more disappointed since many of them seemed senseless and unneccassary.
This is just my personal opinion, obviously. I was a bit disappointed with the final book (if you couldn't tell by my earlier comments, lol), but that doesn't mean that I don't like the series as a whole or that I look down on people who loved the finale. I just wanted to say what I thought about the character deaths in the final book.

I think that she had to kill off one of the twins because the impact would have been that they never go anywhere without each other and (up until George's ear accident) were indistinguishable. I didn't like when she killed off Lupin and Tonks because they had just had a kid and all that stuff. However, I do believe that Lupin was killed because he was the last of the Marauder's. It was kind of an ending to what Harry had been trying to search for: a likeness to when his father was alive. Now that Voldemort was dead and Harry could move on, he felt comfortable knowing that his parents died for a good cause and their deaths were avenged.
I was really disappointed with the epilogue. I mean, yeah, it was nice and all... but it was kind of boring and typical. xD Oh well.

I think J.K. Rowling mentioned in an interview that she only killed off Lupin at the end because she spared Mr. Weasley in the fifth book. But now that you point it out, it was a bit fitting that the last of the marauders died... except that, you know, he had a kid and all. ;___;
And yes, I don't know anyone that WASN'T disappointed with the epilogue. She could have done a much better job with it. The one thing that I do like about it though, is that she made everyone a family in the end. :)

I wouldn't really have cared if Mr. Weasley died. I dunno. I think maybe if he died in the fifth book, it might have been too much of a shock that both he and Sirius died. I suppose it's easier for people to accept that so many people died in the last book, rather than the fifth one, you know? I also think that Lupin and Tonks dying was a reflection of Lily and James dying; it was for the same cause, they were killed together, and they left a child behind to a godfather who was somewhat without a family. Sirius being without a family simply because he was rejected by his and burned off of the family tree.
I'm watching movies one through five in my room right now. ;D

Bit of DH spoiler
Well, Hedwig's death was a bit for the shock factor but I think it was also a bit of a warning. It was to show that you can't really anticipate what is going to happen next. I feel like it was suppose to open the reader's eyes to the fact that there will be death and it will probably be unexpected.
I don't think the story would have ended right if Mr. Weasley had died instead of Remus and Tonks [which Rowling did say in an interview that it was down to that kind of decision between the two]. Like was mentioned, Remus was the last Marauder. Had he survived, the impact of the scene where Harry was walking to Lord Voldemort would have been slightly less. Harry needed to have all the people that should have been in his life, but weren't, with him at that moment and just that moment.

Wow, okay, when you guys put it that way... I think I see why Lupin had to die now. I still don't agree with Hedwig's death, or the other ones I mentioned earlier, but Lupin's death makes more sense to me now.
Anyway, now I'm definitely going to stop visiting this thread. I really don't want to be spoiled for the sixth movie. xD;;

Today on ABC there was, like, either a half hour or an hour long special on JK Rowling. It was so good. ;-; <3 She talked about her inspiration towards writing the books and how she had to end them the way she did and if she would write more and whatnot. Aaahhh. xD

@Snape death
hmm I agree. It seems like he should not have died. Basically you knew him as the brooding dark man for so long, that when he finally gets a chance to be seen as good, he gets snuffed out. :(
lol and why kill off two characters... in place of one!?
I saw the "JK Rowling Special. That was interesting; very touching when she started to tear up.
I can't imagine my work reaching millions of people, and becoming such a hit, that there is merchandise and amusement parts about it. Geez... I mean... what do you do after that?! :XD
I personally Love spoilers ^_^ If you have any, just put them behind the Spoiler Code.

I finally got to watch the movie last night! I really liked it and I didn't think that there was anything wrong with all the romance. I mean, most of it was in the book--the fact that they added some extra Harry/Ginny scenes in the beginning made it less random when they finally hooked up toward the end.
I did not like the very beginning or the very end though. The scene with Harry and that waitress was so random and just ridiculously awkward. They should have cut that out and just had Dumbledore come and pick Harry up.
And I liked the ending, but I didn't like how they cut out the battle scenes. It seemed like there was a lot of build-up for something that never happened in the end.
But everything else was done so well! The scene where Katie Bell was cursed was really freaky, as was the scene where Ron was poisoned. I didn't like Slughorn too much in the books, but I loved his actor in the movie. He was the most interesting character for me this time around. :3
I could go on and on, but I'll just mention one other thing that I loved about the movie. The short x'mas scenes with Tonks and Lupin at the Weasley's were excellent. I never liked that pairing and it seemed random to me, but somehow, in the movie they managed to pull it off. It didn't seem like they got together so suddenly, but maybe that's only because I already got used to the idea of them together in the books. xD;;
Anyway, loved the movie. Go see it you guys. :)

I SAW THE MOVIE THIS MORNING OH MY GODDDDDD <333333333
It was so great, I loved it. I agree that the Katie Bell scene was scary. xD And so was the Inferi scene. I knew it was coming, so I was debating covering my eyes, but I didn't. And everyone jumped. xD I, however, did not enjoy how Luna found Harry on the train instead of Tonks. I like Tonks a lot. I liked the scene with the fire and following Bellatrix, though, that was good. I also agree that they should have had fighting at the end, where they call Dumbledore's Army with the galleons! I loved the movie omgomgomgomg xDD I'm going to see it again tomorrow. <3 AND THEN ON THE TWENTY-NINTH IT COMES OUT IN IMAX AND IT'S 3D OMG <333333

@Captain Howdy: Well, honestly, these aren't spoilers because the movie has been out for quite a few days now. If someone doesn't want to know what happens in the film, they shouldn't go into this thread...
Spoilers are just things that haven't been revealed yet, like an upcoming episode that hasn't aired or tidbits about a book that hasn't been released yet. Does Menewsha have an official rule as to what's considered a spoiler? We've had this discussion in the House thread as well and most people seemed to agree that spoilers are just for things that are coming up in a future episode.
I dunno... I don't want to spoil anything for anyone and I won't mind editing my post so that it's in spoiler tags. But... it seems a bit silly as this is the official discussion thread for a movie that's been in theaters for almost an entire week now.

Thing is about the latest film: Dumbledore never told Harry what the other Horcruxes are - now he's got to find them and he doesn't have a clue! He doesn't know what the real locket looks like, or any of the other Horcruxes. Poor film Harry.

BUT IT MAKES IT SO MUCH BETTER. Dumbledore didn't know, though. And Harry has to figure it out. Otherwise there wouldn't be much conflict in the seventh movie/book.

But Dumbledore never told Harry about what the Horcruxes were in the book, either, but he did drop some better hints. Like the bit about Voldemort choosing objects that are important to him and whatnot.
Anyway, I saw the movie today and I really didn't like it. The entire thing just dragged on and and on for me.. there was no action and no tension. The scene at the end wasn't even that great. :\

There just wasn't that sense of mystery or tension or ZOMG VOLDEMORT IS GOING TO KILL US ALLLLLL in the movie. I mean, they got all of the basic plot elements in and the acting was a step up but I feel like it was lacking the emotion the book had. If that makes sense.
