I think Cricket may have been referring to the man who had the bomb in his stomach, no?

Well, I mostly like that it's very reminiscent of early-development Gaia. That all it has are forums and a few games is what appeals to me.

Hm, that's an interesting way to think about it. But you're right, it's sooort of like a way toned-down version of early Gaia. But this place is pretty different in some areas; spam-regulation is the first thing to come to my mind. This place is strict and tolerates NO SPAM. :banhammer: I don't remember Gaia ever being like that.

I don't either--Chatterbox, anyone? And I prefer it that way. It's nice to be able to speak with people while actually knowing what they're saying. But then, I've always disliked using chatspeak outside of IM conversations.

True, but this place doesn't even let you "bump," lol. Bumping is practically the essence of Gaia. But it is very nice. Gives this place a clean feeling. :XD
I love the fact that everybody is so nice here. Cricket was the one who welcomed me and helped me to my feet on this website, and answered a lot of my questions. Kind of like you on Gaia all those years ago. ^_^ But yeah, practically everyone is willing to offer helpful words of advice for a newbie or even just a smile and a "Welcome to Menewsha." Did you get that when you joined, too?

Yeah, actually. If you bother to introduce yourself on Gaia, you might get a few honest welcomes but in general the response is a resounding, "So?" It's interesting how much a little quality control can do.

Yeah. @_@ I hope so much that this site doesn't grow massively huge and sink down the toilet like Gaia did. That would break my virtual heart. ...But somehow, I don't think it will. It can grow, sure. But I really don't think we Menewshans would ever let this place just go to the dogs.

Yeah, especially since Gaia never had that level of quality control to begin with. If they can manage to keep that up, they're golden.

I never thought I'd say this, but: Hooray for rules! :XD (I actually think that way a lot; I practically live by rulebooks. Without rules, society falls apart.)
(Unless of course, you're dealing with the Joker. Then... "You WERE a schemer... you MADE plans... and uh... look where that got you.")

The Joker is just what happens when an existentialist goes insane and does some drugs. :P
On the subject of The Dark Knight, though, I was very pleased at how much they pulled from Batman canon, particularly The Killing Joke, which anybody who calls themselves a Joker fan should definitely read. *looks at you pointedly*

*shirks nervously* Hey now whoever said I was a die-hard Joker fan, anyway? I was just making a reference. >_> <_<;; But yes of course, it was a most excellent movie, in all respects. I'm not much of an avid Batman comic-book reader or anything like that, either, but I'm glad to hear you say they did a good job keeping to the story.
The movie just kicked serious ass, plain and simple. Actors, special effects, even plot, were all phenomenal. xD But we all know that already.

Well, they didn't really keep to any story, as it wasn't based on an established Batman arc. The Nolan movies actually rebooted a lot of canon. But they drew a lot thematically from the comics is what I'm saying.
To be honest, my one gripe with the Batman movies is they don't have enough humor, so they don't really keep the spirit of comic books. Comics are campy by nature, that's just part of their charm. Batman tends to be one of the darker ones, just because the title character broods so often, but it has its lighter moments, too. I think the comic book movie that really nailed what it was trying to accomplish was Iron Man.

-Grin- The Dark Knight was awesome. It didn't disappoint at all. I'm not a comic book reader (never really had much of a chance) but I'm definitely a Batman fan.
I really love how they left the origin of the Joker a mystery. Y'know, you never know the truth about the scars, and they couldn't find his record or anything. That was simply amazing, and made it all the better.

You and your fancy graphic-novel terminology. I just say the movie rocks.
The Dark Knight was definitely a more dark / twisted addition to the Batman series, no doubt. I think it mostly had wry humor, like when the Joker's remote control got stuck and didn't blow up the last part of the hospital, he jiggled it, it worked again, and he got startled and ran away. Or a personal favorite of mine, when Bruce Wayne crashed his car into the other person in order to stop them, and he's lying on the pavement talking to Gordon, feigning ignorance. Gordon:
Quote:
"That was a brave thing you did, sir."
"...Trying to catch the light?"
"You... weren't protecting the van?"
"Why, who's in it?" *looks over to see that the hostage man is still okay* *looks back to Gordon, rubbing his neck* "Do you think I should go to the hospital?"
"You don't watch a lot of news, do you, Mr. Wayne?"
|
That conversation is funny to me. But I also think Christian Bale is one of the sexiest men alive, so I could be biased.
EDIT: Hey Cricket! Yeah. I agree with everything you said. xD

That's part of what I meant when I said it took a lot from The Killing Joke.
"If I have to have a past, I like it to be multiple choice!"
@Saelia: By lighter and with more humor I mean things like Batman having to fight criminals while taking care of an infant and being very bad at it.

Please, please don't talk to me about the Howl's Moving Castle movie. Please. I am far, far too bitter about it.
It was in a one-shot, I think actually in the JLU universe. Which tends to be a lot more light-hearted than the core books.

No way. O_O Must go watch the movie now. Must see that movie.
Edit @ AJ: Wait... um... uh... was it, bad, or something...? *trying to ask without talking about it* x_x
FOR EVERYONE'S VIEWING PLEASURE:

CHRISTIAN "SEXY" BALE. The things on his eyes are UV shields; he's tanning. I frown upon tanning because it's just toasting your skin and it's unhealthy, but I make an exception here because it made for one daaaamn sexy photograph.
