Hey everyone~ wow, I'm amazed that some people have already finished the challenge.
I'm only at book 22... I just finished reading Amnesia Clinic & Buyology. Both great books, but I LOVED Buyology (Truth & lies about why we buy)... It really opened my eyes to some funny behavior.

Heh, I shall record all of the bets so far. There'll be books in the sink by the end of the year. There's a box of books in one of my wardrobes now.
I've finished Don't Panic so I really want to read/watch/listen to something Hitchhiker's related. The Devil You Know won't read itself so I might just get the DVD of the TV series out instead of trying to read something else. They never got Trillian right in anything...

@Stormy
I want a Latin-English dictionary!
@Kat
Isn't Don't Panic wonderful? Even looking past the subject itself, I'd call it one of the best biographies I've ever read.
I've got two main bookshelves that display my collections. Even though I own many, many more books than this, the others are packed away in boxes. Photos of them wouldn't be too interesting. :-/
This first one is in my bedroom:

This second one is in my brother's bedroom. He "moved out" two years ago, but the majority of his stuff is still there. I finally convinced him to clear off a few shelves so I could put some of my non-fiction / historical fiction there.

This is what one of my bookshelves looks like, now that I've organized it. c: And uh, here's the top part. I'll have to get clearer and close up pictures later on, I only had a cellphone. D:
I need to bring over the necessarry books from my dad's to fill it to overflowing again. XD Decided to get rid of some stuff.
Stormy- Oh boy. XD Good luck. I have a lot of summer work left to so myself, so I can't nag at you.
I'm not very far into it, but so far I really enjoy it! Though Khaled Hosseini is a fabulous reason to get distracted, I love A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Knerd- You have a very nice bookshelf! Good organization system, and I love the shelf it's self. Lovely design up top.

Knerd: You're not wrong there.
My dad got me into Douglas Adams through the Hitchhiker's books when I was fairly young. From then on Adams has occupied a weird sort of legend status in my mind. I like how Don't Panic barely mentions his personal life at all, but still makes you feel like you understand more about Douglas Adams as a person. At first I had a childish sort of "but Douglas is perfect!" view but now I know he's not I feel even stronger the world is a worse off place for not having him.
It's also nice to know the hologram-thing as I've being calling it on the cover of So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish is a lenticular picture. Thanks Neil!
Edit: I just got 42g on Tetris. :')

Agent- Yeah, old stuff, mostly. XD Haven't bought any, except used, and a few I'm particularly fond of for a while. My obsession has sort of faded into just a casual liking over the last year or two. I prefer to spend my money on books. My books are my babies and I love them to death and beyond. My manga... I just enjoy it.
Yeah, it's a really blurry picture. XD I do have Fruits Basket, but only like... 11-15 or something. My school had the first ten and by number fifteen it got too repetitive and boring for me. Same inner monologues about wanting to protect people and wondering if the curse can be broken and angsty flash backs and blah blah blah every time. I just needed more stuff going on. I do have all eight volumes of Chobits, though, that was a very cute story. c: I reread it all just a few months back. I'm more of a fan of action, fantasy, and horror though.

I've only been buying used lately too. Well, I did buy a new volume of Ouran High School Host Club volume 9 over the weekend, but that was just because I was there. 83
Altogether I have exactly fifty books lol. Angel Sanctuary, Absolute Boyfriend, X-Day, Godchild, Hana Kimi, I.N.V.U., Model, Nana, Chobits, Dazzle, Princess Ai, Ouran High School Host Club, Loveless... and I can't think of the rest.
lol I tried reading Fruits Basket too but I just found the anime to be so much better. Which is a first for me. xD
There's only eight volumes of Chobits? Nice.. I only need for more till I have the complete series.
Personally, I can't stand too much of the action mangas.. The ones I've seen were all a bit.. rough. I'm more into comedy, romance, suspense, drama, and all that good stuff. But I do like fantasy.

Fifty is a good number, haha. That's a lot of manga!
I don't know how many I have, I'm fearful of counting them because I know I'll go, "That number, times ten... GOOD LORD I'VE SPENT HOW MUCH ON MANGA!?" And then I'll just get pissed off at myself and probably try to sell it all. XP I have 122 regular books on my bookshelf, though. Not a very impressive number as far as books go, but I'm not sure how many I've got on my bed, in my closet, and at my dad's house on top of that.
...I need to buy more. *has a problem*
Yeah, that's one of the reasons I was able to finish it. It didn't drag on for a ridiculously long time.
The plots in action ones just tend to move along quicker, so that's why I lean towards them. Romance and drama tend to stagnate and then I get annoyed.

I read Fruits Basket a while ago just because it was something to read. None of it really stuck with me.
I enjoy manga as much as the next person, but I dislike getting sucked into a series. That's a lot of money to spend on one storyline (or at least, one setting/collection of characters). So I tend to borrow it from friends instead, which means that I don't always get the chance to finish it or read ir more than once.

My challenge is going as fast as other years, but at least it's going. i actually just added a few more books to my list.
Right now I just feel like I need some fun, mindless reading. I'm going through my bookshelf and pulling off stuff that I know I'll enjoy, which means that I've been doing a bit of rereading lately. But that's okay - Classes start again in about two weeks, so my brain will get plenty of exercise in no time.
How about you?

Fun mindless reading before classes is a good idea. The last brain-destresser for a while, huh?
It's actually going badly at the moment. I was expecting to read a whole lot this summer, but I ended up just doing other things. I only have until December 12th to get 33 books done, and with the classes I'm taking and clubs I plan to be in, I feel like that's a squeeze. I'll try my best, and if I fail, there's just a reason to try harder next year, I suppose. :)

@Knerd:: I love my Latin-English Dictionary. I got it over the summer from Paperback swap. My teacher told us that 3rd year we would be translating Hercules the entire time and it would be best for us to get a dictionary. So I did. XD It will defiantly come in handy cause I always forget words.
O.o Your bookcase is so pretty. That's a nice collection you have there.
@Iltu:: Blah summer work, thankfully me and my friends are coming together tomorrow to work on it. XD
Hosseini is a good reason to get distracted. XD

Nice bookshelves, Nerd. My dad hand-built me one out of old growth redwood planks...
Its actually really cool and it hangs on the wall... It can hold around 300 books. I used to have easily over a thousand books but I sold and donated most of them....
EVERYONE should read Buy-ology. Its a fascinating read.

So today I started book 18 of 25. :boogie: I'm pretty sure I'm going to make my goal, and then some. Had I started on January 1, I probably could have gotten 30-40 or so read, but alas! I did not. XP
Ah well, at least I'm reading again!

The Big O manga is full of sound effects like "Bmmm" and "Wrrrrr" floating around pictures of mechs but I have no idea where this one (top panel) came from. *immature*

'A levels' are English and Welsh (can't forget the Welsh) qualifications. They're mostly used to assess whether or not you're good enough to get into a particular university. I did well enough to get into my first choice which is Glasgow. Yay!
Most famous example of 'wank' being used in a comic book.
Sometimes the old ones are still the best. XD

I was actually just reading a bunch of these today:
Top 15 Unintentionally Funny Comic Book Panels
A lot of these are pulled out of context and really aren't inappropriate unless you really twist them (like the Archie one), but it's funny what these guys could get away with.

those. are ridiculous.
anyway, i've been gone for the past few days playing with my livejournal.
but now that my grandparents are coming here soon i have to clean my room. (because they are sleeping in it and i am getting booted to the couch)
so i'll be gone for a bit cleaning and then i start classes tuesday, so you guys may not see me for bit again. :C
but the upside is that i'll have new pictures of my bookcases for you guys. <333
i'm getting the need to reorganize them again. @_@;;;
though i just redid my manga bookcase a couple weeks ago, so that's okay.
plus i helped my (brother's) grandmother set up her classroom today and made the bookcases all organized. +_+
ahhhh, i am almost halfway done with dead until dark. and i luffs it. :3
AND I FREAKING KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.
like when bill says he got his clothes at dillard's. :B
okay.
leenie out.
(so not watching star trek: tos episodes, what? >_>)
