There is no too many books, including if you've ran out of physical space to put them in or there isn't enough time to read all the ones you own already.

lol, tell my folks that. They want to get rid of them all. But of course, I'm not letting them.

My husband made a new rule for me - for every book that I bring home I have to get rid of one
Needless to say I've been very good about not bringing books home lately - at least for myself.
So far that rule doesn't apply to book for our son - so I satisfy my book need vicariously through our son now.
It's actually a good thing - we have too many books in our house and I really don't need to buy or bring home books since I'm a librarian and I work with books all day I can borrow pretty much anything I want to read and not clutter up our house more than it already is.

I buy most books second hand so I try and take them back once I've read them but sometimes I fall in love and need to keep them or I just buy at a far faster rate than I can read.

I'm constantly bringing home withdrawn books - but then I keep borrowing books to so I never get around to reading the books I ' own because I 'need' to read the borrowed books first since I can only keep them for 3 weeks.

Congrats! That's impressive
I'm about to miss 50 books by 2 or 3 - I'm at 46 right now and am over 1/2 way through one book and have another lined up - but I don't know if I'll finish in time.

I failed miserably this year.
Going back to college really messed with the time I had available to read.

I ended up being about 20 short this year of the challenge. But next year perhaps I'll make a better effort. xD

I have read about ten books in four months. D: I should read little bit more real books, not just comics and fanfics >n<
Right now I'm reading Mad Ship by Robin Hobb. It's quite heavy book for me, long with lots and lots of difficult English words... Too sad they haven't translated it to Finnish :(

I haven't been around Mene in a while, but I'm trying to get back into it, for this thread in particular! I love the community of readers here, and I have been missing it terribly. I only got through 30 books out of 50, but I'll do better next year. (I've actually only read 29- but I'm only 50 or so pages away from finishing The Silmarillion and I intend to have it done before New Year's Day!)
What were everyone's favorite books they read this year?

I think there were 3 standout series for me this year
Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss was incredible and I tore through it super fast followed up by the sequal Wise Man's Fear - I am no-so-patiently waiting for book 3 to be published.
The Dreamblood series was also really good - it starts with the book The Killing Moon by N.K. Jemisin followed by The Shadowed Sun
I also started the Sevenwaters series by J uliet Marillier. The books in that series that I've read so far are Daughter of Sevenwaters, Son of the Shadows, Child of the Prophecy, and Heir to Sevenwaters. I have the next book, Seer of Sevenwaters on my desk waiting to be checked out and taken home. This is one series that I have to say - don't judge the books by the covers! The covers are horrible and I probably would of passed them over if they hadn't of been highly recommended.
So - there are the 3 series that I really adored this last year. I've been slogging through the Anita Blake books too - but I think it's a form of punishment in some ways. They started out OK and just keep getting worse and I feel like I have to finish the series since I've gone so far already. At least they are fast and easy reads.

What a neat idea!
I used to read tons, but college got me completely out of the habit.
I don't know if I'd be able to come up with fifty books in a year, but I did just read Gulliver's Travels! I finished it on a plane yesterday.
I think I'd have another problem because I tend to re-read books over and over..Sometimes in the same month. xD;
I've found it easier to get back into reading with this app I found that's got 80 free classic books. I haven't decided what to read next, but I think it might be a Charles Dickens. Any recommendations? (:

I know I do a lot of re-reads as well, Arriana. And it's okay. It counts as long as you read it. :)
And you don't have to start with fifty. You can start with as many books as you like, whether it's less or more.

Well then!
haha I may try this out.
I guess I won't cheat and count books that I read over the summer. :P
I'll make a goal of fifteen books for the year, for now, until I can figure out a normal schedule and then I can revise it. (:
So one down, fourteen to go!

I'd accidentally unsubscribed from the thread.
Sites like FeedBooks are good for free public domain books which include a lot of 'classics'.

I'm three books into my challenge for this year so far (I'll get around to making a post for it soon I'm currently just tracking it on Goodreads), but I feel like I'm cheating a bit. I've been loaned some manga volumes. They look about the size of a regular book, but since most of the page space is pictures and not text, they obviously are much quicker to read. But I'm counting them as books anyway because I am a rebel who cannot be tamed. One of the books I've read this year is a proper novel, though.

I'm still on my first book of the year.
But in my defense! It's a very good non-fiction book about pre-Columbian America. I love it so far, but it takes more concentration to read and I can't really breeze through it. Hopefully I'll finish by this week and have something to put on my own list soon.

Thanks for that link! I've got a couple ebook sites bookmarked, but I hadn't seen that one before. I already spy a couple titles that I'll be grabbing from there.
