Yeah, so much more to being a librarian than I realized too. Most people doesn't even realize that you need a degree to be a librarian, as opposed to simply being staff at a library. (I didn't know either, until I started looking into it.) The term "librarian" is kinda antiquated and buried under a lot of stereotypes, but we're increasingly called things like "information professionals," which is awkward but slightly more informative about what we are/do.

Information professional does sound like a bit of a silly title. I like that old fashioned librarian term. I miss spending my time after school at the library...

Yeah, I like librarian too. Even if I end up being at the technical "information professional" end of the spectrum, I'm still going to call myself a librarian as much as I can get away with.

For sure! You can tell all your friends and the people you meet what an awesome librarian you are. ^_^

Finally finished reading A Storm of Swords (only took me two years!) and moved on to book four, A Feast For Crows. I actually quite like the Song of Ice and Fire series, but there is something about them has that made it hard for me to get through them quickly. The end of the third book had a ton of intense events in it though, and I'm picking up my pace.

I stayed up reading until midnight last night to finish the book I was on because I needed to know what would happen. ^^;;;

Might just have to use this amazing thread to keep track and read more. Hopefully it will inspire me to get new books and not re-read the ones already on the shelves. Characters in books so often times feel like friends and when I re-read a book it's like hanging out with friends that you don't see very often.

I'm actively reading 11 books. Yes. I get easily distracted.
One is a coffee table book, one is a bathroom book xD, two are bedside table books, one is an audio book, one I leave at work and read when I forget to bring a book....

You guys get the picture haha

@ Zig: Yep, that's me. All the time

@ Andais: Indeed...that's one of the reasons I keep on coming back to Harry Potter and Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences and the multitude of Star Trek and Star Wars novels I own.

@ Melissa: Hello me XD

I wouldn't say it's a library per say but I think most people prefer quietish environments for reading. XD

That makes sense :) interestingly I never like it to be too quiet. Especially when I'm just reading a fiction novel

I started reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman the other day. My fiancée promised to read a book I recommendEd if I read Ocean first. I like Gaiman....but I prefer his children's fiction more.

It's pretty good so far.

I guess to each their own! I prefer it to be quieter while I'm reading. If there are too many people talking around me it makes it difficult to concentrate...

Huh, that's an interesting challenge! Do you know what you're going to ask him to read?

Zig, I want him to read Illuminae by Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It was really good and I want someone to talk about it with.

I always suggest him books and he never reads them. Only way I could get him to read my suggestion was to strike a deal.

A little quiet is nice for reading, but if I am being honest, some music is nice too. Or, reading by a rushing river, hello nature sounds!

@ Melissa: Aw... That sounds like a fun way to do it though! Like a book exchange!

@ Queen: Nature sounds can be very nice too. I like the feeling of the sun and a soft breeze. ^_^

My husband and I have a friend who buys them as soon as they are released. We borrow the books as soon as he finishes reading them. My husband is currently reading it.

I just finished The Keys To The Kingdom series by Garth Nix. Gonna start the second book in the Septemus Heap series while I wait for my husband to finish reading the Drizzt book.

Oooh, Keys To The Kingdom is good. I've read it a couple times and now I'm trying to collect it (albeit slowly XD). Same with the Artemis Fowl books .
I tried reading the first Septimus Heap book a while back for for reasons I can no longer remember I never did finish it . I might have a copy floating around...somewhere.....

Ooh a book hangout? My kind of space!

Has anyone here read the His Fair Assassin trilogy by Robin LaFevers? I don't read YA much anymore but this was a brilliant story and one I recommend to all. Assassin nuns in Brittany, with castle intrigue, politics at court, and someone wanting to get rid of Anne and hand the duchy over to France... What more could you want?? It's got everything for a great YA series and so much more!!

Last year I managed to read 55 books. So far this year I've only been able to read four, maybe five books.
