Welcome to the official avatar contest of Valentine's Day 2010!

There will be three categories this time around: Generic 'Valentine's Day' avatars with appropriate colors and themes, a Zodiac Themed Avatars category and for the first time, there will be a team event, where each team will create a pair of avatars that look like Famous Lovers Throughout History.

Hey guys! I'm Sizzla, and most of you have probably seen me around the forums at some point or another. I've hosted most of the avatar contests during our events now, and it seems that this time I'm at it again. I'm looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful outfits!

Helpful hints from Sizzla:
I don't really have any particular hints this time around, but I hope to see some wonderfully layered, themed and color-coordinated avatars. :D Good luck, and have fun!


Hey folks:) You may have seen me on such shows as "Beavis and Butthead" and MTV's "Daria". Now, I make my happy little home here on Menewsha, bring sarcasm and humor to all it's good little girls and boys. I am really looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Be creative! Originality goes a long way with me. Above all else, have fun!

Rules

Read the rules and follow 'em. That's all I ask! XD Make sure you read them all too, because there may be something in the rules that's necessary for your entry... ;)

• First and foremost, make sure you follow the Site Rules.
• Be respectful! Constructive criticism is fine, but please don't be rude to other entrants.
  
• You can only enter once in each of the categories, and you may not enter on a mule account. If you do try to enter on a mule, we'll know, so just don't bother. XD
  
• Please be sure to use the entry form when you post your entry. Failure to post the form will result in your avatar not being entered into the contest.
• You may use your own inventory and the Menewsha Avatar Creator to make your outfits.
• Please be sure to save your entry to an outside image host like Photobucket or imageshack. What we see is what we'll judge, so be sure that the avatar you enter is saved and won't change.
• If you want to change your entry, you may edit your submission up until it is posted on the front page. Once it is posted on the front page, you'll have to PM Daria if you want to change anything.
  
• Entries must be submitted by 3 p.m. CST on Thursday, February 18th. Click here to find out what time it is in Central Time Zone right now! Winners will be announced in the Community Discussion forum shortly after the event ends.

Prizes

We'll choose first, second, and third place winners in each of the categories. Other prizes might be added as the event goes on, depending on the amount of entries received.

Prizes are as follows:
First place: 5,000g
Second place: 3,000g
Third place: 1,000g

Zodiac Themed Avatar Contest

I have a feeling many of you are familiar with the concept of the zodiac already (the one used for the Lunar New Year is often referred to as the "Chinese Zodiac"). If not, give a quick looksie at this link and you will officially be in the know here since I'm going to focus on the Chain Zodiac.

Are you aware that Menewsha has its own version? The Chain Zodiac is similar as it also runs on a twelve-year cycle, but the animals are not the same animals that you are used to. To look up the Menewshan zodiac check out this link here

So, here's your avatar challenge, should you choose to accept it! Make an avatar from either the Menewshan zodiac or the Chinese zodiac. I am looking for either zodiac avatars in this contest. Feel free to use these characters as a 'starting point' and then changing them to make them your own. Perfectly matching avatars is not a requirement, but it won't count against you:) You can include a little explanation about your character (not required) but I will use whatever you put in your entry in the judging.

The Lovers Avatar Contest

A married couple. One day Eurydice stepped on a venomous snake and fell to the ground dead. Distraught, Orpheus traveled to the Underworld and retrieve her. After his music softened the hearts of Hades and Persephone, he was allowed to take her back to the world of the living. The one condition was that he must walk in front of her and not look back until both had reached the upper world. Just as they reached the portals of Hades and daylight, he turned around to gaze on her face, and Eurydice vanished again from his sight, returning to Hades forever.

Description: Mark Anthony - a Roman general who rule Rome after the murder of Julias Caesar - was taken aback by her beauty the first day he set eyes on her. When he returned to Egypt later, he crowned himself and Cleopatra as rules of Egypt and the Eastern part of Rome. When he engaged in a battle with Octavius, Cleopatra's ships fled the scene, causing him surrender. He vowed to kill Cleopatra for this treason. Cleopatra decides that the only way to win back Antony's love is to send him word that she killed herself, but her plan fails: rather than rushing back to see the "dead" Cleopatra, Antony decides that his own life is no longer worth living, and runs himself through with a sword. Only after he learned that Cleopatra is still alive. He dies in her arms.

The two met when Zack crashed through the roof of an old church, where Aerith was tending her flowerbed. Startled, she woke him up - at first he believed he was dead, and seeing an angel, though she quickly corrected him. Grateful to her for saving him (though she insists she did nothing but say "Hello-o!"), he offers to pay her back with one date. At first, she laughs and calls him silly, but after a series of amusing misadventures, they begin to get along quite well. At the end of the day, Zack buys Aerith her trademark pink ribbon as a gift marking the "one-day anniversary of [their] friendship"; at a later meeting he gets her started selling flowers with a cart they built together. Though they often downplayed their relationship, Zack was often none too subtle (when he did try to deny it, he wasn't very good at it - sometimes it was his fault, sometimes it wasn't), and eventually (in FFVII itself), Aerith will admit that Zack was her first love.
Sadly, as is common in the dystopian setting, characters such as these two have a bittersweet ending at the absolute most positive interpretation...widely circulated spoiler...but if you have that much of a talent for spoiler avoidance, well, I won't ruin that for you.

O, the lovers avatar category is new and interesting. I will definitely enter at least something into the zodiac and valentine categories. I am not too sure about the lovers one though. xP

And yes, you can use black in your avatar as a complimentary color, but red, white, pink and purple must be the MAIN colors. :D
