while downloading the html files of the chapters of the three books that weren't for .lit download, i found this in the epilogue of the dying days.
Quote:
‘Bother,’ Benny said, moderating her language in the Doctor’s presence. Then she realised he’d disappeared into the TARDIS, so she repeated the sentiment using the F-word, just because she could.

I'm still reading Seventh Son. It's horrible. I think this book is only like 200-300 pages long and I've been on it for DAYS! It makes me sad.

Hey everyone!

@Dream_and_Die: Agh! Sounds like a kind of disorganized campus. I'm glad that the teacher was at least nice. What is the course like?

(I've only ever been in your basic set of high school English classes.)

@Leenie: Yay for books! I'll start throwing some of the .lits onto my skydrive, then, so you can download them. I imagine it will take awhile. Do you have any preference for some of the authors on my list? I can put them up first.

Curious question; did the Dr. Who show or Dr. Who books come first? I'm a newb and know not.

Puppet pals! They never age, really. :)

Yay, if I may add to the sentiments I think Potter Puppet Pals is ace (there's another anachronism for you). Nakey time!

Aislin: As far as I know Doctor Who was originally a TV show. Most of the novels are just original stories using the characters from the show or adaptations of episodes. It was first shown in the 60's-80's and only recently brought back again.

"Wizard Swears" makes me giggle. Although, aside from the Elder Swear, I do believe that the best wizard swears are ensconced in the perilous realms of fanfiction.

I once snorted water after reading the exclamation, "Merlin's left testicle!"

-- which I still sometimes accidentally say in real life.

Thanks, Kat! I think I'll watch the series first, then; I like to do that sort of thing in order.

Aislin, you could always just watch the 'new' series if you don't want to wade through 26 years of BBC rubber monsters attacking badly dressed Doctors the classic episodes... and that's without the TV films. ^^;

I used to read fanfiction when I was teeny, the awful saccharine stuff where they fell in love and got married all the time. XD

Ain't it great? The vast majority of it scares me, I'll admit, but sometimes you just get those gems...

@Cherry: But that's part of the magic!

@Kat: Thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely go with your recommendation.

Yay! Thank you. :P

I actually kind of am guarding my books, at the moment. My grandmother doesn't like the space that they take up in my room... and I just got a ton more at a library booksale... for very cheap... and there are a lot of them... So I brought them into my room surreptitious-like.

My grandmother has been eying them with a suspicious expression.

... heh. And earlier this year I thought I'd cease buying too many books, too! :)

Heh, one of my motives behind taking up the challenge was so that I'd be reading books at least somewhere near the rate I was buying them. I just can't pass up cheap books. >.<

My parents books are spilling over on their bookcase so I don't they have much of a case against me! If it's your room you have every right to fill it with books. Better that than a mess.

I wrote fanfiction when I was teeny. I had an awful original character that was the precise definition of self-insertive Mary Sue. >>
I was pretty good at keeping the real characters in-character, though. After I had been writing for a bit at least. The first story (I had a series >>) was like "Oh, well, I've been working here for decades, but I'm sure this seventeen year old girl who technically shouldn't even be here knows what she's doing and can help. Carry on." xD;

Aww, I think I wanted to write fanfiction but I never had the nerve to get past the first few paragraphs.

Since I was about 13 it would have all came out like "Katya was best friends with John Weasley but John only had eyes for the prettiest girl in all of Hogwarts Diana Malfoy and Katya was not pretty but she was very clever..." and it would have all gone downhill from there.

I'm sure you were a good writer though Cherry. ^^

Yay for Cherry writing fanfic! I never did try. I would be too tempted to Mary Sue myself into a diabolical April Fools gag involving the Weasley twins.

Like the One Ring, you know? Fanfiction should only be written by the pure of heart. :XD

Do you still write?

Hee-- Kat, your description of 13 year old fanfiction attempts is excellent. I used to stumble across so much fanfiction just like that.

One of my close friends tried to write Harry Potter fanfic which incorporated Avril Lavigne songs... and a Draco-Harry-Original Character love triangle... and I mistakenly tried to explain to her what Mary Sue meant.... she didn't talk to me for about a week. If she had just incorporated System of a Down somehow, I probably would have let the madness continue without comment.

Mary Sewage could be an area of sociological study, really.

Also: what about books and a messy room?

I'm disappointed that I couldn't think a name that was still obviously taken from mine, but also incredibly silly.

On that sort of thread everyone should occasionally search for their own names on fanfiction.net. From the Twilight page:
Quote:
katie is new to forks, and when she finds a dog in a storm she takes him inside. When she wakes up there's no dog, but there is a really hot guy. a werewolf? could she be in love? and does the thing in the forest with purple eyes pose a threat? SethxOC
Books and a messy room... cover the mess with books!

o-o

Twilight fanfiction makes me have nightmares... combine the original writing... and then... the people who would write fanfiction based on?... I mean... grammar, then?... and... too scary.

Woot! Katieses! You have a good name. It has my Official Approval.

I try not to cover the mess with books. Then where would I put my CDs? :XD

Truly, it isn't that bad. But my grandmother is from Germany, where they take cleaning Very Seriously. And cookies-- they get really, really hardcore about Christmas cookies. She was offended one year when my aunt brought simple chocolate chip.

I used to search the Harry Potter and LotR sections but since there is a Katie in Harry Potter it significantly cuts down on the lolz. I don't know how I dared go about parading my name all over the place until I had the Aislin Official Approval™.

I would like to learn German. I think it would be way more useful than my rubbish schoolgirl French. I didn't know there was such a thing as Christmas cookies. We just buy posh biscuits that come in tins. XD

Oh, no, no, it wasn't good. xD Trust me. I was like, 12-13 (I wrote the series for a while)
There'd be moments where it was okayish (considering I was 13), but the overpowering Sue aspects were disgusting. Though she was sort of a crack Sue. She was a hybrid of two humanoid species, and of course, had the best traits of both (which included some mild psychic powers, and a bit of rare telekinesis), a real character was totally smitten with her, a ton of people were out to get her, her parents died at a young age, she was way too young to be in the field she was in, etc. But she was also bitchy, neurotic, and prone to breakdowns. xDD She was a spaz, really.
Oh, and of COURSE, her name was similar to mine. My name is Christy, and hers was Crystal. xD

OH GOD DON'T MENTION THE WEASLEY TWINS AND FANFICTION.
Still scarred just by the thought of the Lance Bass/Weasley Twins fiction. @_@

Yeah, I still write. Not fanfiction, though. xD I'm of the opinion that 90% of all fanfiction is utter crap, even if it doesn't include any mary sues or crack pairings. It's just nearly impossible for someone to get the style of the real writers (of the book/show/movie/whatever) down enough for it to not seem weird. Then they have to get the characters and what they'd say/do down, and then they have to get a decent story going. I don't trust myself to do that. xD
Mostly I write lyrics and the occasional short story. If you're particularly interested, here's my dA. "Bad People" is a (very) short story (it doesn't take more than a few minutes to read) and "My Ocean" is a random narrative prose type thing about depression. Not quite a short story. The rest is lyrics/poems. It's Sue-free, I promise. xD
(Oh, and ignore the "mature content" warnings. It's just for some language and occasionally something sexually suggestive. There's nothing bad, I just put it up for people who... shouldn't be on the interwebz, really xD)
