Has anyone ever heard of a book called Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston? It's the first book in a YA series about Faeries. I haven't heard of it, but I often read this genre. I saw an ad on Goodreads for the book and it's temporarily online for a free read. Ths is the link: Browse Inside Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston I don't like to read online, though, so I'll probably check the library for it, but I was wondering if anyone has read it and would recommend it.
Jellybean: I just checked out your reading list. How were the Patricia Briggs books? I looked them up and they sound good. I think I'll add them to my list. I've already added them to my Goodreads list.
Hey, is anyone else on Goodreads?

I just finished my second book of the year, yay! I read Lavinia by Ursula K Le Guin, which is a sort-of retelling of Virgil's Aeneid, but from the point of view of his Latin wife, who only appears in the actual poem in a few scant lines. The story is soft and ponderous in feeling, which is something I really enjoy in Le Guin's works, but if you're an action lover, I'm not sure this book would be for you. Regardless, I would still recommend Le Guin's works to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, fantasy, or anthropology.

Melissa: Goodreads is a great site if you love books. You can keep a list of books you've read and rate and/or review them for other people. I look for new stuff to read there all the time. I keep a "to-read" list and request the books from my library a few at a time because I read so much I need to read for free. Oh, the other cool thing at Goodreads is the giveaways. Publishers offer copies of new books and you can sign up to win different books. I have been on Goodreads less than a year and I have won three giveaway books! Also, I just discovered recently that there's a place where people post books that no longer want and they give them to whoever requests, but the person requesting has to pay shipping. I haven't done that because, as I mentioned, I like to read for free. :) If you sign-up you should friend me, then we can check out each others lists and reviews.

@Chexala: I haven't read that one yet, but I love Le Guin. It's funny, I originally started reading her because my 7th grade English text book used parts of A Wizard of Earthsea for example and problem sentences. School has addicted me to so many things. xD

@Dream_and_Die: Wow, I wish I had read Le Guin in school! I found her because my mom had several of her books around the house. She started reading Tehanu to me when I was in elementary school, thinking I would get into it because it had dragons (kinda), but since it was in Le Guin's typical soft and ponderous style, I wasn't interested at the time. I didn't really get into Le Guin's work until high school, when I read The Left Hand of Darkness and The Beginning Place. Heh, the first time I read The Beginning Place, it didn't impact me much, but then I reread it a few years later, and it made me cry. :D

Melissa, I just added you on Shelfari. =D
Right now I'm still struggling to finish Whatever Happened to Tanganyika? which is really short and cleverly written, but it's a geography lesson on every page, and for really obscure areas, so it's going much slower than I thought it would. Almost finished though.

So... I just finished my first book of the year, The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. To anyone who is interested in reading it:
As far as viewing it in the aspect of a novel, I would say that it was decent. Better than The DaVinci Code, and much better than Angels & Demons. A bit too predictable to be called great, though.
But I would still recommend it based on it's historical underpinnings. There is a lot to be learned from this book about America's Capitol.
Altogether, I say yes, read it. But don't get too wrapped up in the plot of the novel itself. The ending may disappoint.

I finished The Atrocity Archives, woo. I'm going to read my library books before I start The Jennifer Morgue. It's harder sci-fi/horror than I would normally read but I like Charles Stross even if he sometimes infuriates me (because that makes perfect sense).
Now for Torchwood fluff!

Interesting, I had to google alaunts after that. I knew what brindle bulldogs were though, that's the kind of dog that Laura Ingalls Wilder family had in her novels, lol. ; ; I would remember that detail.
I finished my obscure geography book, and picked up a copy of Piers Plowman, which I've been wanting to read after revisiting Dante. And I also picked up a copy of Nose Down, Eyes Up by Merrill Markoe so my head wouldn't explode from all the seriousness. D=
