Mangas read fast... I could probably read all 50 in the 2 week time span they give you... which makes me wonder if Manga are available in my own library... *goes to find out*

They give you three weeks to read books at my library. With manga, I'll usually end up getting a bunch, and finishing them within a week.

haha that's fine, MeowMitts! You have a year to read them all, so no hurry. Do what seems reasonable for you. I started building a list...except they're all from the Barnes and Noble site. So..I have a few already. But I'll have to see if my mom wants to go buy books with me, and I'll have to slowly collect them as I go. ...which is fine, really, otherwise I'll get overwhelmed from all the new books. XD So, once I have at least 10 books from my list, I'll post it up. >D

Yay, I read a book!
Odell, Colin & Michelle LeBlanc, Studio Ghibli: The Films of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Kamera Books, 2009. Next project is to get through a good deal of Norman Klein's Seven Minutes: The Life and Death of the American Animated Cartoon. It's from 1993, so as animation scholarship goes it's a bit old, but his writing is so engaging!

They're really great. The studio ghibli book is more of a fly-by plot summaries and interesting details, but the introduction includes what is for me super-important history of the studio.

Well, I'm working on my dissertation proposal, studying the music of Studio Ghibli, so I have a lot of animation history and such on my list.

@HappyStarr: Ooh, I'm so jealous. I have to acquire them one by one. I recently borrowed Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso from Netflix, and they were great. I really want to see Pom Poko! Are you majoring in Animation as in drawing, or as in criticism and history?
@LaVida: I *so* want to see that. I know Ursula LeGuin's daughter — she's a cellist like me — and I'm trying to work up the nerve to ask if I can meet her mother. I'm a huge fan. Though I did hear that Ursula LeGuin was upset that Ghibli animated the main character (what was his name?) as a white-skinned person, rather than dark-skinned, as it is in the book.

As in drawing. =] It's awesome and scary at the same time. I'm absolutely terrified I won't be good enough to make it..but then my alternate ego kicks in and is all, "If they don't think I'm good enough, they haven't seen enough yet. >D" Sooooo...we'll see. I know it's tedious work, and thinking about doing it freaks me out. But then I remember my animation class in high school and how the rotoscoping project (probably the most tedious project that year) turned out to be my favorite. I procrastinated a ton, but ended up with one of the best in the class....and I only did it in a couple nights. XD My teacher was so surprised and proud....
But..ya. Doesn't mean I don't want to learn the history, either. I took a Film/Animation class a couple semesters ago and LOVED it. My teacher was awesome and made it feel like story time.
