Yeah, I am finding it to be a really interesting site.

Has anyone actually completed it yet?
I failed it last year by a long shot. Although currently it looks like I am well on track to complete it this year. Even if one of the current books is proving to be much more difficult than I had anticipated. I mean, I thought I had a fair grasp of Marxist theory, unfortunately it would seem not.
I see two people who have completed it on the first page but they only did 25, i'm aiming for the 50 : )
Started a new book today! I wanna get it finished by tommorrow. : )
Woohoo, finished The Kite Runner! Yay for snow days. :) Anyway, WOW. What a great book! I cried a little at one part that really spoke to me. It was so heart wrenching and beautiful. For those who have read it, it was
HUGE SPOILER FOR THE KITE RUNNER, GUYS.X
when Amir was waiting in the hospital to see if Sohab would live, and he got down and started praying right in front of everyone. And as if that on it's own wasn't touching enough, the things he said about God really hit home for me. That was one of the most beautiful moments I've ever read.

Yes, I know what you're talking about! I was past that point, and I'd known about it in advance anyway. I was so upset! ;a;

He's just one of those authors that you know you should pick up, but something more exciting always seems to be staring at you and begging to be read.
Oh boy do I know the feeling! That's why it took me so long to finally pick up The Kite Runner! God, I think I'd been meaning to read it for at least five years. I was so glad when our teacher assigned it to us.
I think I prefer A Thousand Splendid Suns to The Kite Runner, but both are excellent works. Whichever one you end up picking up whenever the time comes, I think you'll be pleased. :)
NO MORE CLASSES!!! I've just finished the first book in Return of the King (finally). Now I've just got to tackle the last half of it and I can finish the Keys to the Kingdom series! ^^
Woohoo for Lord of the Rings!
I just finished The Fellowship on audiobook. Haven't been doing much driving lately, so it's slow going. At least it's a nice little refresher about the series. I haven't read it in a good 8-9 years, so I'm long over due.
I got interested in the Lord of the Rings trilogy when the first movie came out but I didn't read them till after all of them were made and was going to be on VHS/DVD. I still haven't read The Hobbit but my roommate has the illustrated hardback copy of it that he found in a second hand store. I will have to say though it took me awhile to actually get into the books but once I did it was fun.
Haven't read the books or watched the films of LOTR >.<
Haha.
You are not really missing out on all that much. The films further symbolized Peter Jackson moving away from New Zealand film culture and becoming Hollywoodized, the books themselves can have pacing issues and have been criticized as spending too much time giving detailed accounts of the environment. Although I would question my account as it has been nearly ten years since I read them.
I listened to the LotR audiobooks recently and they were amazing actually! I remember I read them for the first time when I was what, 12 or something, and back then I thought they were slow paced, but listening to them I had troubles turning it off, they were so exciting all the way through!
Anyway, I finished my list for 2010. Result: 32 titles, 2778 pages. Massive fail. :( In 2009 I read 59 titles! But then, I had my dissertation this year, so I was pretty stuck reading things for that, and I actually did read a lot more but as they were just chapters and such from books I never wrote them down properly.
This year though I am going to enjoy so much the fact I can start reading novels again. Mmmm.

good luck berin!!! c:
Yeah, I don't think I have much hope of reading 50 books considering in like 2 months i've read 8 xDDD
Maybe i'll pick up the pace magically or something. xD
I'm worried about my goal too, I've only finished two books so far, and almost a month into my challenge. I was going to finish Hardball today, but I left it at my mom's, like a doofus. :gonk: So I've been reading another book instead.
ljos- I fell massively short this past year as well. :( Just a bad year for us readers, I guess! It's good you'll have more reading time this year, at least! Good luck with this year's challenge.

Oh despite my critiques of the trilogy, I still really enjoyed reading the books. I don't think I will ever go through them again though.

You went much better than I did last year. What's more, I only had emotional things preventing me from getting through my list. Time wise I had plenty. Although congratulations with your dissertation! My flat mate is finishing the editing for his Sociology Masters Dissertation so I can almost understand how incredibly stressful that must have been for you!

Although to your credit, that is a sufficient rate to get through 50 books in one year. If you continued at that rate, you would end up reading 52 by the end of the year. :)

I am at a similar stage to you at the moment, it is almost a month into my challenge and I too am only on two completed books.

Leigh; Wow, you must even be a super quick reader or have time on your hands! c:
My main problem is time, I always run out of time to read, with college and stuff. I miss reading a lot.
Crimson- Hopefully we can both pick up our pace substantially! I'm hoping come spring time I'll be able to start ripping though books like a mad woman, since I'll have spring break, and a month or so after that, school should be slowing down some, given that AP tests will be wrapping up, and seniors don't have to take final exams so our teachers won't be running us ragged for those. :) I don't imagine I'll have much time in the summer or once college starts, so spring is my time!
I know you're reading high level books, I imagine that must take some time! Goodness knows I'm incredibly slow with books that demand the extra mile for comprehension.
@Medieval: Oh! I'm reading that right now! It's pretty good so far. Although it's still mostly in the 'What's going on?" stage, haven't quite reached the "Ooohhh..." part yet. xD
