I agree with this! I'm American. It's not really a big deal for us, but I am kind of looking forward to it. It's something different. Something good going on in these bleak times.

I know it's got to be at least a bit important if you're British, but if you're American...exactly why does America love to poke it's nose into everyone else's business? It's not that it's not important at all {I mean, it's being televised and all that}, it's just that it's taking over my TV...and I know that Obama's not that important in other countries as he is here. Heck, he doesn't even really have that much power. Well, I guess I'll just have to wait for this week to be over...

Thankfully, on Turkish telly, there's been very little mention of this if any at all, because here we have bigger fish to fry, like the upcoming national election in June.

So... I just read the first page, but I wanted to apologize to all the Brits out there who think Americans are douchebags now. >.> Schiza, yeah, so it doesn't have anything to do with us? Turn off the news, there's never anything good on it anyway.
But geeze, it's not as if all of us care NOTHING for other countries. We have a bad enough rep for "ignorance" as it is.
----------
@Quarter_Queen: Just wondering your country of nationality (politely). ^^ Actually, our president does have some massive power in the form of veto and commander in chief. He also chooses who goes on our Supreme Court jury, so it's his decision whether it leans left or right, which doesn't sound like much but it ends up being pretty important!

Have none of you realised that this is why the Royal Wedding is plastered everywhere? The media leap on stuff like this as an antidote to war and famine and disaster, etc.
The other all too obvious thing, is this is a means for endless people/companies to make money from cheap tatt souvenirs, so everyone who has the vaguest chance of profiting from it is gonna milk the situation.

Whoa... There are a lot of mean words being thrown left and right. Can you guys tone it down a bit and act less like a rabid pack of unintelligent buffoons?
I'm American, and in all honesty I'm immensely intrigued by the upcoming ceremony. Although I'm too young to have been around when Diana was married into the family, I've always had an obsession with her and the intrigue surrounding her marriage and death. So yeah. Whee for expanding myself beyond my own country's borders? Whatever.
Regardless, whether it's a culturally-significant figurehead, a politically-significant figurehead, a religiously-significant figurehead, or a female illusionist on a unicycle... People are going to be intrigued. 'Nuff said.

Excuse me for not being happy that a rich little brat is getting married and that the whole world thinks its the bee's knees. There are revolutions in the middle east, Japan is suffering, but we all have to be happy about prince nothing getting married. Give me a break.

I have to agree with Jelly about it being a thing to ease people's minds, and see that there is something worth celebrating, even in times of tragedy.
Sure, I still remain that Im not going to watch, nor do I particularly care about it. To me, it is just two more people getting married. Unless it is family(which she may well be, if there is a connection somewhere), I dont see very much reason to pay much attention to it. Plus, I have enough trouble sleeping at night to get up at a god-awful hour just to turn on a TV when I need to be up a few hours later to go to work.
So, some people just need to chill, switch channels if they dont like the fact its being advertised alot, or better yet(even though this goes against what I normally do), go outside. Its spring, its warming up, people are starting to wear less clothing. Im sure there is a park or something you could go to Kraven to meet, or just watch, people who share a dislike for the wedding. But in all honesty, and from what Ive read about the last thing you said in the wee hours of the morning(for me at least), grow up. As NeuzaKC said, the world doesnt revolve around you. You dont burn at a couple thousand K do you? Because, you know, if you did, the world and all living things would be incinerated.
Also, who knows what else will happen this year that people will NEED something that shows a glimer of happiness in order to make it through the rest of the year. Yes, you might not like what Im saying, hate me all you want. Move on with your life. Saying, and I quote:
Well, thats just crying ignorance of the fact that they are descendants of people who actually did do ALOT of stuff for people in the past. Some of it might not be glamourous, but hey, noone is perfect.

I don't really care, but I don't actively not care. If that makes sense, it doesn't offend me that people are making a big deal about it.
I'm just not British so it's not a big deal to me. :)
It will come and go, and nothing in my life will change. lol.

I think the point is that it IS something to be happy about. Unless you want to go drown yourself in your tears, in which case, stop using the internet and donate the money to charity.

I can understand why it's a big deal in England and even across Europe but I certainly don't understand why it is such a big deal over here in North America. The royal family are just figureheads to us and it doesn't affect us. Sadly I'm sure we'll be hearing about it for the longest time. I wish the happy couple all the best but really staying up until 3am to watch the wedding is just creepy.

Kraven: Oh, really? I was unaware. So that must mean you're a very miserable person every day, because children die of hunger in Africa all the time. And thus, if someone is miserable, everyone should be miserable too and not be able to be happy, because that's just how you want it to be, correct? I do hope you think before you type next time.

Actually darling, that's not true. You don't own this thread, it's public, so I can post whenever and as many times as I want. You, however, don't get to reply however you want. Cursing at a specific poster is against Menewsha's rules.

Stop getting your panties in a twist just because I bring up valid points that you have no rebuttal to. It makes you look like a child. It's funny though, how you didn't even reply to anyone else who brought up very good points against your view. Makes you seem a tad... Butthurt. You can't expect to make a public thread on a massive site like this and expect everyone to agree with you. If you can't handle contrary opinions to your point of view, might I advise you turn off the PC. Otherwise, use arguments instead of saying mindless things like "fuck the royal family".

Well Hey kids! Guess what? I wasn't going to watch but a friend has invited me round for a drinky at her place while its on. I would go and watch Netball if it meant a drinky at her place so I'm going... now, I need to make a fascinator for my hair.... some tinfoil and a feather I think.

The people making up more excuses about Obama's birth certificate is what I'm sick and tired of seeing everywhere. It's really gotten old and tiring. Thankfully though, Obama did say on TV that this was a waste of time and he has more important things to worry about then this silly business.
I don't really hear too much about the Royal Wedding as much as I do about Obama's birth certificate.

Wow... after reading the first page, I see another reminder of why, in an area where one reveals their nationality online, Americans are ridiculed. I understand that our country likes to hold tight to the First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech, and I am bound both morally and legally to protect the constitution it is in. However it shames me to see people be so rude while using it. Freedom of speech =/= lack of common human decency. It doesn't equal freedom to be rude.
*steps off her soapbox*
On to the topic at haaaand~
I'm much like Monstahh' in that I don't have a care for or against it really.
When I was younger, and massively in love with Princesses, I remember taping Princesses D's funeral, and being utterly fascinated with the entire ordeal and learning about her life beforehand. But now, while still in love with Princesses, I'm older and I just don't have *time* to devote devouring everything the news has to throw at me. Though when I'm working out at the gym, I see the news they have on while I run, and do get quite amused at there being 'Will and Kate Fingernail pressons'.... I mean really? XDDD
I will admit though, I'm miffed that LIFETIME already has a movie out about them. and not in a 'Aw geeze, them again?' but in a 'Really, guys? Really? A movie already?'
Also... I guess I'm lucky. I live in neither country at the moment, and the only time I really see the news is at work, the Gym, or on the internet where I can easily skip things of disinterest. Not having a TV can be beneficial! Woo!

I just finished watching the whole thing live. It was so beautiful! Whether you care about the royals or not, the royal family is still a huge part of the British culture because we are a monarchy. So naturally the public take an interest in royal weddings, funerals, coronations, ect. The foreign interest on the other hand was quite staggering, the BBC said they were broadcasting the wedding to approximately 180 different countries. I saw an American promo for the royal wedding coverage on one the UK comedy shows- 10 o'clock live- and honestly it would put me off watching the royal wedding. It was so saccharin and twee I just wanted to vomit rainbows. I watched the royal wedding because it is a piece of British history not because it is some happy ending to a romantic fairytale.
