@a_shy_girl_1999- That sounds like fun. I bet I wouldn't finish though.
You should try it, it is fun ... Just keep writing each day and you can make it too .. all it takes is about a hour a day writing as much as you can if you start on November 1st ...

@Lilith: Yay! Thank you! I have good news, actually-- I found the torrent for it. I'll probably dispatch of the reading this weekend, since I have quite a bit of reading assigned right now.

Still, I'm wonderfully glad for the recommendation.

Three cheers for NaNoWriMo! I tried my hand at it for the first time this year, though I didn't actually finish the novel. It was a wonderful experience, though. Another of my friends tried it as well. I'd like to convince a couple more to do it with me next year.

It would also be fun to have a bunch of Menewshans try it. :)

@a_shy_girl_1999- I think I'll try it. I'm sure if I tried I could get all the words.

@Niamh- Your welcome. Rage by itself is really expensive, but the ones in the collections are not to bad. Good job finding the torrent.

Cool, that seems to be the way to buy it. If you get it seperate then its like $150. I think I have that book and I plan on reading it soon. If I don't then I'll just have to buy it.

[Wow, I missed a lot of conversation (and all of page 50). Has anyone considered that King might have asked to have Rage removed because he felt it didn't properly represent what he wanted it to represent? Obviously the connection with Columbine really affected him.

Chai's suggestion sounds really interesting, and I'm adding it to my list. This place has been great for helping me choose new books.

Hurrah for NaNo! Writing a little bit everyday, even if it isn't all the same novel, is a fantastic exercise.

I think my response (immediately deciding to read the book) stems more from curiosity than anything else. Even if the book didn't adequately represent what King wanted it to represent, I'd still like to form my own opinions and interpretation on it.

It drives me absolutely nuts to think that another person has read a book that I'll never get the opportunity to. I have to read it. It's a weird, Fahrenheit 451 induced, book-centric form of paranoia.

You can imagine my response to The Tales of Beedle the Bard. I'm still in denial.

Also, Joie-- you're reading This Side of Paradise? How is it? I've just finished The Great Gatsby, and I wanted to read Paradise next. It's sitting on the shelf by my bed. :)

@JoieD- That is the reason so far as I can tell that he did ban it.

Mmmmm, reading. I love it.

I have an application on my facebook account that I use to keep track of books I've read, am currently reading, and want to read next, which is really helpful. I'm constantly forgetting what I want to read, especially if I don't own it, so that list is particularly useful.

Hmm, looking through my lists, I see that I've read 31 new books since last June, when I started keeping track. Cool! I didn't know I'd read that much this year. I used to read a lot more before I got a computer. >__<

I have the same problem, actually-- although, it doesn't actually amount to me reading less. I read just as much as I ever did, but now half of it will be news, globalissues articles, NaNoWriMo, ebooks and fanfiction via the laptop. And yet I still read enough solid, hardbound books that my family complains about them overtaking my room.

It's concerning, actually. Because, really, who complains about a teenager reading?

I haven't watched TV in months.

I don't even have an antenna for my tv, and that's the way I like it. I do like to watch movies, though. It's actually very good that you're reading more than just books now. I didn't start reading a lot of news until I came to college.

Edit: I'm really enjoying This Side of Paradise. Amory Blaine's a very interesting character, already the disinterested post WWI youth, without actually being post WWI.

I had a really intense period of reading fanfiction (Harry Potter), and sometimes I get really caught up in research, but I've still never gotten into the habit of reading the news. I feel like I should, but just can't bring myself to care enough.

But yeah, my computer is the bane of my reading, but not the death of it. Reading used to be an escape from the world (which is what the computer is now) but now reading has become an escape from the computer. XD

Wow, you guys have been speeding through the pages lately. Every time I come back to check up on you, another page has gone by.

Tomorrow I'll sit down and take the time to update the master list and give everyone their prize for posting on page 50. I'm actually "studying" for micro economics right now, so I probably shouldn't even be on the Internet...

I should be studying too, Knerd...
A bunch of my friends told me about several books to read, so I added those to my "must read" list. Lol.

I saw the mention to this thread in Knerd's signature in another thread, so I thought I would come check it out. Now that I have read up on the idea a little bit, I think it sounds like fun. I've been meaning to read more again. Ever since I started reading graphic novels and webcomics, I've been reading less actual novels, and I kind of miss it. I accept this challenge! I shall start my list right now, with the book I am currently reading

Book Number One! "The Subtle Knife" by Phillip Pullman (It is book two in the His Dark Materials Trilogy, and I read the Golden Compass a few weeks ago.)

I am about halfway through it so far, and loving it as much as I always do (I've read this book about ten times now. I love this trilogy)

1. Ever by Gail Carson Levinne
2. Dragon's Milk and 3. Flight of the Dragon Kyn by Susan Fletcher
4. Jinx by Meg Cabot
5. Water Song by Suzzane Weyn
6. Little (Grrl) Lost by Charles de Lint

The only time I really felt I hadn't been reading much was when I first came to college. Life in the dorms was so much faster paced than my old life, I went months without reading anything for pleasure. Of course, that made me freak out when I realized, so I immediately went to the library and read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. Then things slowed down and I started hanging out all the time with someone who's as big a bibliophile as I am.

Joie, I know what you mean about dorm life being fast paced. There is always something going on, and I almost never have a moment of free time to read unless I tear myself away from the internet. My room mate is really social, so my friends tend to congregate here and we are always doing something or another.
I got a library card for the local library as soon as I moved here, but I don't get to visit it nearly as often as I would like to...

Found it at a library sale for 50 cents. :p

I'm going to be starting college in a year or two and, besides any financial aid or grants I might get, I've got to pay for it on my own. My family can't afford to help me.
