For where it came from...I'm guessing the fact that most people wake up just BEFORE they die as a result of the shock, feeling that same adrenaline rush as in that moment before death...and assume that their waking up was actually a defense mechanism. Or something like that. I'm not really sure...but that's my best guess.

There have actually been a couple versions...one is where I'm a ghost, watching the scene and the reactions to my death...which is not a particularly enjoyable one. e_e God damn it, there is going to be no sad music allowed at my funeral. Not even my favorite song! I hate seeing people get all depressed over me.

Another version is where I'm standing at a gate, sort of "between" life and death - my physical body is very much dead (usually impaled through the heart...which is not fun), but I can still clearly hear things being said specifically to me by those who are still alive, and I can still feel it when someone touches my body...even though I can't actually SEE the scene. That's a weird one.

I probably had disproved the whole thing before these particular nightmares came up too...but by the time they got that bad, I'd lost so much sleep I couldn't remember. XD;

I've never screamed in my sleep (thank goodness!) but I've mumbled phrases and sentences in my limited French knowledge. I wouldn't even know about this if some of my friends hadn't told me after I spent the night at one of their houses. They had heard me repeating things I had said to them when I was demonstrating my French vocabulary earlier. Neither of them could tell me what I said, but it started with "Je" and apparently had a French accent.

But normally, I don't think I physically react to my dreams.

I did once, but I couldn't remember what the dream was about, so I had no idea why.

Yes, I just did this week. Scared the crap out of my husband too XD He asked what happened and I refused to talk about it because I was still scared of what I thought I had seen. I thought there was a black figure about 2 feet away from me but at the time I was still terrified so I told him,"Let's just forget about" Grabbed his arm and pulled it back over me to cuddle and fell back asleep. He asked me about again in the morning and we laughed. The worst time was once mu husband got up to go to the bathroom and I thought someone was coming into the room and I screamed his name as he was opening the door. Nearly gave him a heart attack, he had no clue what happened. XD My poor husband, I need to stop doing that to him XD

I had an ex boyfriend that would not only listen to these dreams he would ask me questions while I was having them. Once we went and fought a dragon together. Apparently he was a knight and I wanted his sword but he wouldn't give it to me so I made him come along. He LOL when he tells the story.

I've never screamed in my sleep or anything. I also can't think of a time when I was crying in my sleep either, but I know I have cried myself to sleep, it's just I didn't cry while I was sleeping.

I luv this topic because i have many weird sleeping habits. okay so the first one is that i walk around the house cleaning up. the second is that i can hold conversations with people without them noticing im asleep. the third is that i usually sleep with my eyes open. the fourth is that two years ago when i was 12 i found out that i boss people around in my sleep because i was telling my sister how to rearrange my mom's bedroom XD. The 5th is that my dad told me that i sometimes laugh evilly while my arms are crossed across my chest like a mummy (when i heard this i was like  sure) well that all... hopefully! My friends tell me i fight them in my sleep but i hope they lie.

Not sure if I've ever screamed, I know I mumbled a bit, and I use to laugh a lot when I was asleep, never could remember the dreams though at all. I don't think I really do that anymore though, aside from mumble and squirm lightly.

Plenty of times. I'm a very violent sleeper.

One time I was having a dream that someone was stalking me. and everytime I turned around they would disappear. So finally I was fed up and I went to punch them - only I punched my mother in the face while she slept XD (I was sleeping with my mom because my grandparents were in my bed). lol - needless to say - she never let me sleep with her again.

My roommate says I talk in my sleep. One time I asked "what about the moo?" (I call my boyfriend mooMoo - so I assume I was dreaming about him at the time). Another time I woke up screaming "WHAT ABOUT THE MOON!!>!?!" lol. Because I was having a dream about the sun XD

One time, my roommate said, my alarm went off and I couldn't find it for like 5 minutes and I just get crying and stuff until I finally got it and turned it off XD lmao.

The other night I had a dream about my boyfriend and I woke up and so very clearly I could hear his voice go "hey" but he wasn't there XD

and one time I was staying the night with him at his brother's place. and I told him "If I steal the covers, just steal it back" and he said "okay." So he tried to take it back in the middle of the night and apparently I rolled over, screamed in his face, and then rolled back over. XD He just gave up on the blanket after that XDD

The dream I remember screaming/yelling outloud was when my son's deceased half brother (he was killed in a car wreck, long story there) came to me in a dream. He was sneaking up on me,and scared the daylights out of me,I woke up yelling "You scared the *bleep* out of me Steven!" I only wish it hadnt been a dream.:(

According to my sister, I talk and scream in my sleep. But I wouldn't know. However, I have a friend who sleepwalks and yells in her sleep. It's quite scary.

Lately I have been having crazy dreams about my mice escaping or my cat jumping off the 3rd story balcony of my mother's apartment. Eeek. Kinda makes me want to scream.

unfortunately, yes, i screamed
i know it's kinda' funny for you, but i was chased by a man with a hammer in his hand who was trying to kill me, i forgot the reason...
and i knew this man (he wanted me to come to his home - he was about 35, 36 years old i think... i didn't wanted to, so he grabbed me in his car, but i screamed for help and luckily, the police heard me and picked me out of the car)
it was more than a horrible experience

I have woken up screaming once. I was pretty sure it wasn't me that was screaming, but there was no one else so I tell myself it was me. :) I was having nightmares at the time anyway, so it's very likely it was me.

I have also had one weird phenomenon when I was small. I had the top bunk, but when I went to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I reached over my legs and touched the floor. I had managed to get to the bottom bunk. I had sworn I had fallen, but there's no way. There wasn't a hole in the matress, and the bunk beds were the same size and directly over the top of each other. It was really eerie. o.O; When I came back from the bathroom, I remember thinking, "Eh, I'll just sleep in the bottom bunk."

My mom wanted to know why I was sleeping in my brother's bed the next morning. So I told her. xD
